It can only be a good thing, ultimately. That said, with everything leaning towards Linux compatibility, MS are in danger of eroding their own foundations. As I understand it, Linux SQL will not run natively in the kernel. It will run in a container, on top of Linux. So it's a hybrid deployment.

Hi scotthill What version of SQL? I'm guessing 2008 R2 from the SP number. Generally speaking, you should be fine. The Upgrade Advisor throws a wobbly if you specify service packs for your SQL server, but I can't see how installing a collection of patches could make a base SQL server, which is supported, an unsupported…

Go to manage nodes, find the node in question and click the '+' to see what is listed. You should see the errant disks listed there. Check the box next to the and delete them

An additional polling engine can only be associated with one Orion DB, there's no way to have the same information split (without doing something networky to copy the packets), unfortunately
-
Hopefully it's something simple and support can sort it out for you. I'm mostly running 11.0.1 on the instances I support, and like many of us have been holding off 'till 11.5.1. Has anyone had any problems going from 11.0.1 > 11.5.1 as yet?

Unfortunately the 'All Groups' resource cannot be filtered. The only way to achieve this, whilst using the 'all groups' resource, is by using account'/view limitations. If you add a limitation to view only the groups you're interested in, all the other groups will be hidden. Test this, though, as you may end up barring…

If this is just for the NetFlow database, then it looks a little over the top, depending on how many collectors you'll have sending it updates and how many devices you'll be analysing the flows for of course. That said, as with everything in IT, if you can afford it (read: get it past the bean counters) then more is always…

Go to Manage Nodes, search for the server in question and click the + next to it to list the resources linked to it currently in the Orion database. You should find this erroneous volume here. Check the box next to the volume, and then hit 'delete' from the menu bar at the top. he volume will never darken your alert…

Impressive work alexslv! Bookmarked & earmarked for labbing up, when I can find myself enough spare compute somewhere =B']

There's more I could say regarding clustering of the database etc, but I'll base my advice on the absolute bare minimum install for now. If you deployed NPM 11.x, then there isn't really anything outside the database too back up. All reports are stored in the database, and everything else has always lived in the DB…

Hi cjfranca. What made you run the Configuration Wizard? Was this a new installation, or a an upgrade?
-
HI tomtowler What is it you need to monitor for these? If there isn't one on Thwack or in the SAM template library already, I can give you some pointers to help build your own custom template to cover this.
-
First, check that Orion knows that NTA is properly licensed using the License Manager. Then, try running the SolarWinds configuration wizard again, asking it to repair the website. It's likely something screwy with the configuration of the Orion website now that NTA has been installed.

Nice, thanks for the update jtg450!

Hey jtg450 Quick question: Do you have AppInsight for Exchange pointing to your Exchange environment? If not, get it on there a it may give you information you're after. Check out the SolarWinds demo site: http://oriondemo.solarwinds.com/ Have a look at what AppInsight for Exchange gives you. If you click on one of the…

Hey rvsouth. You'll need to have a machine handy which has access to the Orion primary polling engine and the internet. The process is explained here: https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Manually_register_a_SolarWinds_license You'll need to copy the machine code to the machine…
-
If you're quick enough you might be able to get the information from the NetFlow Database (assuming you have 4.1 and have installed the recommended separate database). Other than that, I don't think you can.

Welcome to the wonderful world of SolarWinds tsojaybird! First question for you: Do you have VoIP & Network Quality Manager? (VNQM) If not, take a look at this guide tour video, it may be just what you need: [VIDEO] VoIP & Network Quality Manager (VNQM) Guided Tour I also did a bit of a digging and found this Thwack…

Hi Alex, What is it that you're tying to alert on? Is it whenever a specific trap type arrives? By the sounds of it you might be trying to short cut the way SolarWinds deal with traps. A trap arrives and SolarWinds handles that trap and raises alerts/events based on rules specified. I'm not sure if you can interrogate the…
-
You could look at levering Log & Event Manager's ability to launch scripts on matching an event entry in your logs, and have that script restart the service and, then send a trap to Orion if the service didn't start. A bit convoluted, but it'd do it all in one step. Other than that, your advanced alert idea would work…
-
Cheers sans (great ThwackID btw!). You may have had some legacy alert profiles in the old Advanced Alert Manager which are not supported by the new Web Alerts. They should remain active, but not editable, although I have heard that some people have had alert profiles disabled after an upgrade. I'd check that all the…
-
What version of NPM were you running previously, and what version did you up grade to? The main question that needs to be answered is, what were the main alerts triggered in December? If you go to the Message Centre, search the event logs for the month, and you'll see what events were triggered, and some (most?) of these…

Unfortunately not You would need SAM Admin rights to be get access to administer components. Generally speaking, if you and your colleague are the ones adding SAM templates to nodes, you'll likely be testing them after applying them anyway, and only closing the request with the user once all the components are green. If…
-
Chethan MN gave a good example. You could also simply add the 'Groups With Problems' or 'Nodes With Problems' built in resources to your views, which will show you only the nodes/groups which have issues.
-
Now that's a brilliant error message! Try it again, taking note of the time, and check the event logs on both the system you're running the desktop alert software on, and the primary polling engine in your SolarWinds environment. Remember to check the solarwinds.net logs on the poller, as well as the system/application…
-
As long as all your poller(s) have the same drive letter assigned to the network storage drive in question, you should be able to use a mapped drive from any storage supported by windows in this way. I believe it has to take the format 'drive:\path\' in order to work, I don't think UNC paths are supported. For example, if…

You need to install Dell OpenManage on the server to enable the SNMP MIBs which SolarWinds recognise as the hardware health information. You should have had a copy of this software with the server when purchased, but failing that you can download it via the Dell support portal. You'll need to have the Servcie Tag for the…

I've just been back through my support ticket history, as I was pretty sure I'd asked support something about the capacity resources previously. In case 937132 I asked for assistance when I found that a report that I generated, which used the capacity forecast, was not allowing me to export to Excel or CSV. The engineer…

'ello orioncrack, When you say '2 stage monitors', what is it you mean, exactly? It'd be fairly easy to setup a custom template, using wmi, that can get both stats your after. But the way you've worded your question makes me wonder if I've missed something amazeballs in the 11.5 release.
