Just to confirm, I didn't try to apply hotfix 2, but this particular issue is resolved for us in 8.5.1. Dave.

The only hefty thing on the main page is two network maps - both are 256 KB, so I understand those being slow to load. Even before that, though, getting the login screen takes far longer than getting pages with content on them. When Network Altas was introduced, the map performance (load times) increased for us quite…

I have the same issue - thanks for the instructions Tim! Dave.

We purchased ipMonitor in order to monitor the Orion web servers, pollers etc. It's well priced, and gives us a manager of the manager (and both supported by the same vendor). We also created a sql query run from ipMonitor that alarms when any poller hasn't performed a database update in the last 60 seconds. Dave.

I had the same error today after doing a 5.5.2 upgrade (and upgrading the integration modules on both web servers). Support (Andy) was very quick to respond with this KB reference - which sorted out the issue nicely for us. Are you sure you followed all the instructions? (its quite a long process). One thing I would note,…

Hi Albert, I'm not sure why SQL Reporting Services won't do this for you. You can link the Reporting server directly to the SolarWinds database if you want (we extract to a separate database to ensure performance isn't impacted but that isn't mandatory). We also licenced a copy of Dundas charts for Reporting Services -…

Orion NPM does indeed have both an snmp and syslog collector. You can do a number of advanced alert actions based upon the receipt of a trap or syslog. In version 10, I beleive that we will also be able to change an interface status based upon a trap (which you may find useful in this circumstance). Dave.

Just a suggestion, but why not select "bsnMobileStationIpAddress" as the label name - you would then have both the Ip address and the user displayed in the web interface (or swap them around and use the UserName as the label and the IPAddress as the data). Dave.

I see policy reporting is getting an update in the next version - has this area of policy reports received any attention? Even expanding the node selection criteria when creating a policy to include node interface data would be a great help (beyond just the current node attributes). Use case: I have a large number of…

Very easy to add another polling engine at a later date. The only annoying issue at the current time, is that you need to shut down both pollers in order to move resources from one to the other - although I believe that dynamic load balancing is something that SolarWinds has on the roadmap. If you are using…

It's amazing what you can miss when it's right in front of you. Thanks for that hint David! Dave.

I also have this same issue since SP4 install (occurs for us most frequently during a list node resources activity). I opened a support ticket on Friday (don't have the number handy sorry) and have sent the requested diagnostic data. It was also suggested by support that we do a repair on .net 3.5 - but have not scheduled…

Hi Andy, I think you need a >xx option in your survey (or the result will have a natural bias towards the smaller Orion implementations). Cheers, Dave.

I see some work was done in NPM v10 around forwarding of Syslog messages from Orion (and retaining the orginal address), however it would appear that this feature didn't make it. Is it planned at some stage? Dave.

We also have suffered from slow NCM web response times, particularly when performing an initial logon. This logon until recently had been taking 2 ½ minutes to complete, which to be honest hasn't made the web interface as popular as it should be. As a result however of investigations into the NCM orphaned records and…

I think I figured at one time that any interface that transmitted at >70Mbits/s consistently between a default 9 minute interval will wrap a 32bit counter (someone correct me if I didn't get the number right!) Just about all recent Cisco IOS levels support 64bit counters - I would use them on all devices that support them…

We have a number of kiwisyslog machines forwarding messages to Orion. I would like Orion to have the ability to utilise the "Original Address=xx.xx.xx.xx" tag that kiwisyslog can insert into the message (i.e. log the message using this host address rather than the forwarding address). I know kiwisyslog can spoof a UDP…

No problem. If I get a chance over the next few days, I'll generate the DTS scripts for this and produce a sample report - we could do with this kind of report ourselves. Although I will probably group the data using the Network Name that we have assigned each device (i.e. recv/trans total for each Network). Dave.

How about even giving us the basic phone and gateway data for CUCM 6.1 as a start. The following MIB's are available for this.. ccmRegisteredPhones 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.156.1.5.5 ccmUnregisteredPhones 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.156.1.5.6 ccmRejectedPhones 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.156.1.5.7 ccmRegisteredGateways 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.156.1.5.8…

In the case of monitoring via the WAN interface, all you would see is the device down, which would be incorrect. Of course you could logon to the device and see that the first WAN interface had gone done, but wouldn't it be better to monitor via the loopback and actually have an alarm that reflects the actual error? Dave.

We are heavy users of both Netscout and Orion. There is some overlap in terms of Netflow collection, but really they aren't competitive products. Orion is alarm and event management focused (not just in the Network space now with the additional modules), while Netscout is about deep packet inspection. Netscout does also…

I also ran into this issue with the install of the 5.5.2 integration module - but only on one of my web servers. Support pointed me to this thread. Once I deleted these userid's and re-entered the credentials, then the additional web server was able to access the NCM page - but in doing so broke the previously working…

I would suggest running the demo and having an extended look at the module in your own environment. We find the module very useful for our IPTEL sites - particularly useful is the very quick setup (i.e. defining the sites and selecting the hob/spoke topology that you want to use - and then letting the VoIP module define…

Try inetCidrRouteNumber (1.3.6.1.2.1.4.24.6) - although beware, I'm not at work to check, and half the time I seem to get these wrong..... There is also a route discards entry, and a route table available (http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en&translate=Translate&objectInput=inetCidrRouteNumber).…

The Content Exchange has Universal Pollers that can be imported for both these items... Cisco Power Supply Status Table Cisco Fan Status Table Dave.

Chris, I agree completely with Vic’s comments above. With Orion, we have a very strong desire for a web interface that covers the parts only currently available via an RDP session (i.e. add/remove device). Cirrus is a different proposition, in that general user access to the product is much more limited (at least within…

I'll take a screen dump next time I see it and log a fault. At least the screen dump will show that there is an issue floating around. Dave.

We also have a report that helps identify devices that are maybe producing thousands of syslog messages (sometimes we find someone has turned debug on etc). It might be the cause of your issue rather than a maintenance job type issue. It uses the following SQL statement: Select hostname, count(hostname) as count from…

I had the same issue for performing our QOS compliance reporting at the port level. I created a method to do this using the infomation contained within NCM plus a few other SQL tricks (including parsing the config files down to the interface level). A document outlining how I did this is in the content sharing zone ().…
