It seems a never-ending chase after creating something of value: Storing it > Someone attempting to steal it > Storing it more securely > Someone finds a way to take it > Storing somewhere else more secure > Someone attempting to steal it > Storing it even more securely . . . etc. The sweet spot would be to remove the…

Once upon a time a former WAN provider assured me our H.A. WAN solution through them had full resilience--multiple paths in/out of their facility to prevent backhoe fade, dual paths across different sections of the state, dual core and distribution hardware sets, the whole nine yards. Then one day their data center / NOC…

Implanted Medical Devices Vulnerable: I'm sorry, this shouldn't be news to anyone. IoT has had vulnerabilities for years in the medical industry. Remember V.P. Cheney's vulnerable pacemaker? *** Cheney had the wireless disabled on his pacemaker to avoid risk of terrorist tampering - The Verge IRS Mining Facebook: I'm not…

Pop culture takes its toll again. Although technically, a banshee is merely scary, and has no true powers other than predicting the imminent death of a family member. And offending one's ears with keening.

I had to look that song up on Youtube, and now I'm regretting it. I didn't know that title went with this song. I figured it was something like "Stop! What's that sound?" Or "(Everybody Look) What's Going Down". What a downer of a tune! And yet it's catchy.

This upgrade is definitely much less trouble than our previous one. In fact, it was no trouble at all! Good work!

I can appreciate your desire to keep things tidy and organized and intuitive. I've had similar issues where equipment I believe should be discovered & listed as built by Vendor A is shown in Orion to be from Vendor B. I suspect this is due in part to the MIBs and OIDs and company history of a given business. For example,…

Blocking people from booking plane flights by analyzing their social scores is a challenge. In the U.S. we're accustomed to getting what we want if we can pay for it, or are willing to go through some other method of access. Where the government is more restrictive, like China, the issue becomes trusting those who grade…

wabbott, I confirm the same 5-point vote results as others, instead of 50 points per vote:

I wish Thwack Camp weren't during Minnesota's all-to-brief warm weather. It would be easier to justify driving down (for the points, of course!) if it were cold up here and warm down there. I could (probably) persuade my wife to join me if I could guarantee she'd get excellent view of Scissor-Tailed Flycatchers (I've got…

I sympathize with the concerns about money and resources being able to be spent in better ways than an Olympic venue. In my opinion, the biggest problems are where cities or countries build new facilities to try to improve their face value in the world without first planning practical means of using those facilities once…

Someone will discover a way to steal or compromise the private decryption key. I'm not optimistic. The history of safe / secure networking is not a good one.

Let's not forget to: * Provide sufficient staff to manage, monitor, troubleshoot, upgrade, build, and replace the application environment * Ensure your staff has the training to do their jobs--don't just say "Your team is responsible for this--go and learn it on your own time. And don't make any mistakes when you are…

I'm not old. I'm a 20-year-old kid in a wrinkly body.

Don't read into it too deeply. For me, the obvious answer was the correct one.

Tying malware into a COVID-19 world infection map is pretty stupid. Of course, so are those who spread/create malware, so what else would one expect?

It would be very interesting to be closely involved with a company / department that can be Proactive and Predictive about Security, instead of relying on third-parties and hired guns. How many of us can make that claim to fame?

Immediately providing the correct answer to someone who has given the wrong answer is testing for success. Forcing the quiz taker to wait for the right answer at the end of the month, as is done now, is less effective for learning and developing a positive impression of the experience.

This is just beautiful. Who doesn't want THIS kind of excellence?

Well, even Anakin got flack from the Jedi counsel for not being ready, for maybe not even being the right one for the job. They wanted more time for him to mature, and to allow them to ensure he deserved the job instead of letting the Evil Emperor force the experts into giving Anakin the job when he might not be the right…

AAAUGH!!!!! Still waiting for mine to arrive from 2015! Last I heard they'd gotten to Danielle, but they were red instead of Solar Winds Orange--and that was February of 2017. Sigh . . .

Rather than saying maturity matters more than age, one might extend the vulnerable feeling into saying "the older a product/company is, the more likely it is to be (or have been) compromised". Sometimes I suspect startups may have better security than giants who've been around for a hundred years.

You've surpassed yourself, Leon, with the great stories and experiences--and especially the tales of the next generation you're preparing back at home. Nicely done!

Surrrrre, this is NOT an attempt to get me to say something negative about China or Equifax, because they know everything I do that's important and unimportant, and that will get me in trouble with one or the other, or both . . . . Rather than criticize a company who controls/influences my credit rating, or a country that…

Definitely tune into the Thwack Camp 2018 videos on this topic (available later today, or on the morning of October 19, 2018)

I recently ran into a surprise where a VIP declared corporate access to e-mail is not mission critical, while Guest Wireless Internet access IS.

I like what you've done there, but I don't see how to apply it to my environment where I want to unmanage some Cisco ASA firewalls regularly. I have seven pollers, and am not managing/unmanaging servers--I'm working on firewall nodes. Are they required to be listed in your line "$swis = Connect-Swis -host ORIONSERVERNAME…
