Hedy Lamarr was another surprising inventor, that Grace Hopper reminds me of. Radia Joy Perlman's another. Networking wouldn't be work much without her contributions.

"5G causing Covid-19"? Nice hoax! One might as well state boldly that cheese or light bulbs or dry elbows (or changing a light bulb with a piece of cheese using an arm with dry elbow skin) caused Corona-19. The "sky is falling!" crowd will read that and run with it.

I've always been against biometrics for the simple reason that they convert your personal information into digital information, and once digitized, it can be copied or stolen or manipulated or deleted. There's no changing your fingerprints or retinas.

Faking voice & video is scary--I saw some introductions to it a couple of years ago, and it made a strong impression on me. The "artists" were able to make anyone look and sound like they said something--something that might be very different from their personal or political or ethical opinions. We already have problems…

Call me a Luddite, but life was better, work was more productive, customer and employee satisfaction was greater--before we moved to O365 in the cloud. A couple of weeks ago our ISP/WAN provider had a national outage that took down our access to the cloud for five hours. Estimated negative economic impact to our business…

You nailed the problem, from IS Networks points of view, right here: "business services are not focusing on IT." IT focuses on business. It would seem reasonable for there to be some small reciprocity from Business to IT. There should be at least some token way of taking IT's limitations into consideration before Business…

If you're seriously (or humorously) into that topic, have you visited the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas? Last I read, four people have died at this franchise that specializes in food bad for your arteries. Heart Attack Grill - Wikipedia

An interesting one, but the answers didn't require enough thinking for me. I love it when an answer requires using the product's examples to troubleshoot a problem.

The group Chat at work story--it hit the nail on the head. I've contributed to some of those problems, and experienced others. Thanks for providing info about watching out for over-sharing / over-reacting. Group chats aren't the be-all / end-all fixative for just about anything. It's better when they're configured to be…

Disabling it sounds much like disabling an AP on a WLAN--flood it with deauth packets. Until new code (and laws) prevent that from being successful. Do you suppose it'll end up being like the law enforcement radar units, and their detectors? Both made/sold by the same companies, the radar speed sensor being upgraded one…

I've done the same thing. Today's the 14th of the month, who wouldn't think to click on the square marked "14?" I'd be in total support of the days in the challenge having the date in each of them.

I'd like this, but is it really possible? When a Spanning Tree event occurs, when is it logged? After the event occurs. Which is possibly after the device is isolated by STP. And that could mean that the trap or syslog message cannot make it to NPM for alerting. Similarly, if VRRP has certain problems, routes to NPM may be…

I put a new query out and got a nice response from a few vendors interested in buying our old Cisco equipment. They've been picking up 2960S switches as I replace them with 3850's lately, and the price has been better than simply sending the hardware to the recycler. It used to be that Cisco would buy the gear back from…

This question's front-end graphic says it's unanswered. But when I go in to it to answer it, it bypasses the answers, says "answered", and shows the answered stats, showing I HAVE answered it. Strange. @"danielleh"

There may be several options that can resolve this conundrum: * Don't built if, if it's going to ruin you, your world, civilization, your private dreams, the atmosphere, all security, etc. . . . But that would require significant thought and ethics and altruism, all to be put into play before building it. Our species…

My favorite: the 57% comment. It's too true.

How do you envision this working? What would you like to be included or changed from the current ability to manage Access?

Obviously we're talking about NPM's QoE here, and the equivalent deep-dive into apps with SAM and DPA, and performance with WPM, and cloud-based monitoring. Digital monitoring is, in my opinion, a poor description for this process. That's because computers are digital, not analog, and we've been monitoring them for scores…

Oh, you sure got that one right. Worse, OK, your security policy is documented. * How does an auditor know it's being followed? * How do they know everyone's aware of the documented policy? * What methods are in place to discover violations? * What is being done about every single violation of that policy? * What amount of…

I like the graphics; this looks like an improved way to see what's going on.

Don't forget that a permit ACL might send you down a wrong path by listing traffic that's passing, but that should NOT be passing. Maybe you need Microsoft devices talking on TCP port 445, but you'll probably see them also talking on TCP/UDP 133, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, and 140. Setting up your ACL to allow all of them is…

In no particular order: * National Industrial Security Program | National Archives * How to: Your essential guide to internet security - Security - PC & Tech Authority . Truth In Advertising would negatively impact sales--heaven forbid! Why, we'd have to start producing GOOD products!

Such as . . . ? * I enjoy Science Fiction? * I watched prime time TV in the '60's? * I've seen horizontal space come and be filled with clutter 99 times out of 100?

When one group can "earn" $200M in two years by stealing & hacking data, expect more and more people and countries to begin (or continue) doing the same. No risk. No consequences. Virtually no chance at being caught. Especially when operating from countries whose governments may be corrupted by that same money, or who have…

This suggestion / Feature Request would be SO much appreciated! I'd totally be on board with it. What do you need to make it happen? A free fishing trip in Duluth, MN? A trip to the Apostle Islands? I can make that happen--I have the boat & fishing gear, and love sharing my home boating areas with folks new to them.

Let's not have Thwack degrade into what other forums have become--filled with sniping & unprofessional / unfriendly / unhelpful comments. We have no place for flame wars here; we're here to learn and help and be helped. Please use the T.H.I.N.K. policy before writing: T: Is what I'm considering writing True? H: Is it…

As the saying went in recent years: When I was a boy I dreamed the first people would go to the moon within my lifetime. I never dreamed I'd see that last people to land on the moon. But maybe spaceflight simply needed time to retreat into its chrysalis, to morph into something newer, more graceful, and perhaps even…
