Yep, that's what I suspected. Thanks for clarifying. I agree, it would be nice to have a supported mini-deployment of SW products in a lab. Apparently it's only for companies with deeper pockets, who can afford duplicate licenses for Prod & Test.

My personal relationship with Minuteman Silos is second-hand. I had a favorite relative who ran a Standard Oil fuel oil delivery business, and he regularly stopped by silos and filled their fuel tanks (for heating & generator use, I assume). As a child in the '60's I imagined being important enough to have to work in the…

Stealth networking by employees and well-meaners and ignorant folks may cause the end of networking as we know it in the future. I hope not.

Skimmers and Debit Cards. Just shake your head at folks who don't realize the risks with Debit Cards. When Debit Cards became a thing years ago, I read up on them in depth. And immediately realized their security is worthless. Seriously, why would you risk allowing someone to IMMEDIATELY EMPTY YOUR BANK ACCOUNT? Because…

Thank you very much, wabbott!

That's quite a red flag--Azure implementations "hiding under the desk of a particular clever analyst." There are no shortage of clever analysts, and getting them to comply when they have a "need" that is really only a "want"--particularly when they don't have budget or management approval . . . isn't that a lot like having…

I recall Zubaz as a pant craze back then, tool.

Worse, I have unpredictable browser spacing when I link to my Customer Portal. Most of the time, the Portal takes over the right 2/3 of my screen, leaving my SW Main Setting & Admin page with just the left 1/3 of my screen. Sometimes they're split 50:50, sometimes the Portal section is only the right-hand third of the…

I suspect the issue needs to be resolved via a Cisco TAC case, since Solarwinds is following the standards for snmp monitoring. If you find the documentation, or work with TAC to reveal the correct process to have an outside monitoring system polling your 4100's, please post it so all can benefit from your learning.

Twitter workers staying home to work? I've nothing negative to say about that. I moved home for Covid-19 and I was satisfied. I saved time & money on the commute, got more sleep in the morning and had more time for projects at home after work. I don't see an issue if they can provider meaningful output stats showing people…

I experienced the same error, also.

Buy-in from Mgmt for budget to expand into cloud-monitoring tools, and for budget for training.

I enjoy the cartoon caricatures; thanks for the art work, whoever has the talent.

I'd be concerned with that vulnerability. I bet you have some actions in place to slow or defeat Brute Force attacks. What do you do there to keep these devices safe? * Limit unsuccessful login attempts to three? * Create an ACL allowing inbound connections from a specific IP address (or range)? * Use certificates to…

I've read many Last Jedi reviews that were filled with "if only" and "why didn't" or "why did they" comments. I even read an outraged viewer call for us all to band together and DEMAND Last Jedi be redone with a different script, different director, etc. Silly people. Demand an end to ignorance, to discrimination, to…

wabbott, I like the view presented in the hint for Tuesday, February 20. I went into my IPAM to build it and I find that the Resources aren't available. Specifically, I'm looking to add: * Top XX Subnets with Transient Addresses * VoIP Subnets by % IP Address Used---would I be correct in guessing this one simply searches…

Head up to Lake Wobegon country and have a coffee and a piece of pie in any little town (under 2500 population) and you'll be treated to a lovely bit of small-town Americana. I'm thinking of any little town in Stearns County. Holdingford (population 710) would be a great start. They are good people, nothing "big city"…

Wow--I'd no idea he's still a "going concern". Good on 'im! I was afraid he'd dogged it. Here's hoping he keeps carrying on like a pork chop, 'cause he's a fair dinkum thinkum, and he knows how to work with admins who have a few 'roos loose in the top paddock.

Scary? Maybe. We built a data center on the floor below a helipad where air ambulances landed/took-off-from several times a day. Watching an incoming chopper from the window ten feet below it was scary. Folks were worried about the vibration generated by the copters--would it be enough to feel, measure, impact spinning…

In my business the IT Department (~400 people) had been very rigidly siloed by Management. My team is working to break down those barriers and get insight into other technologies while sharing insight into the Network with other Technologists. The tool we're trying to use as our lever is the Orion suite of products. Today…

I won't believe it. No one can look at this picture and think "Nope, that guy's dull & boring. Nothing interesting about him."

Sounds good. I'd expect / hope NCM could do this from a CLI session on all your devices, if there isn't a more graceful and automated system to accomplish it. If/when you find the solution you need, please post it here, with screen shots, so we can all be amazed at SW's excellence. ;^)

Each year our I.T. auditors require a current network map that shows the physical switches and routers and firewalls and their interconnections. Automation is the savior of time & frustration, but not every tool provides the right information for your needs. Shop carefully and compare.

More great content, as always--you do Thwack proud, @sqlrockstar. 1. Yes, IoT will become too much for IT. Accepting limits is an acceptable policy. 2. Scale and vulnerability of hacks and poor ethics . . . Script kiddies have been leveraging this for years. This seems like a lot of the same. 3. Retaliation against foreign…

I hear you. Actually, NAC is causing us to add staff. I'm not concerned about losing my job, but I AM working about having enough bodies to handle the added work load.

China's new plane seems more important for its military implications than for improving travel and trade. I might be less concerned if all players were governed by trustworthy leadership that got to their positions, and maintained them, without fear and intimidation and punishment and brainwashing of the populace.…

Our H.R. doesn't deal with SaaS until our Security Team brings something to their attention, or until there's an issue someone asks Security to look into for H.R.
