Week One's prize looks fun for kids!

I like it.

Is this also ThinNet, or RG6 Coax for a cable TV? Maybe a lightning strike got it that hot? That'll cause a fire in the wrong kind of wall media. What's the story on this melted face plate--how'd it get so hot?

Get a performance guarantee before signing up for it. I don't find it worth the supposed $6M/year savings Microsoft reportedly gives us over hosting Outlook/Exchange/Office internally. The slowness increased, the availability decreased, troubleshooting it is nearly impossible, no tools for monitoring it properly were…

When I saw the story about Google messing up settings pushed out to its products' users, I shook my head. Certainly a mistake. Definitely a public relations nightmare. I didn't check closely, but I bet it hurt their stock value, too.

Yes! And I continually am surrounded with customers who have the idea that "If it wasn't safe, 'they' wouldn't be allowed to sell it!" In the words of Colonel Sherman T. Potter: "Horse hockey!" "Meadow muffins!" "Pig Feathers!' "Cow Cookies!" "Monkey Muffins!" "Pigeon Pellets!" "Road Apples!" "Mule Fritters!" "Beaver…

You had me in the first paragraph where you wrote " . . . as simple as walking in to see if everything looked OK." I recall a time when a site's WAN communications failed, and I happened to know another department's IT member was on-site. I called his cell and asked him to look in on the network room--did everything look…

Yes, the Upgrade Advisor is being improved steadily. The result is fewer and fewer steps for us to learn (and to stumble over). The goal is a final UA that makes upgrading a one-click process. It'll know (or discover) all of your products, their versions, and the physical (or VM) environment in which they're installed.…

Nice graphic! If they'd include that option it should allow a person to pick several non-contiguous addresses, entire ranges, entire networks, as well as an individual device. I like the way you think!

I've seen lots of attempts to fix this problem; many are not very joyful. One common one is to hire staff at prevailing rates, then don't train them and don't give them salary increases that keep them happy and in your employ. Tell them they aren't supposed to be experts, that the company pays for experts via service &…

Long ago, in another life, at a different employment location, the Help Desk once forwarded me a call from an irate woman, whose voice sounded unusually slurred: Her: "Your corporate web page is broken. It doesn't load properly, and the links are broken." (Me: I checked on it; it worked perfectly for me.) Me: "Can you…

Thanks for doing these recaps. Not only do I enjoy the points, but I appreciate the ability to add comments and suggestions that may improve future adventures!

More ideas for brackets: * Vehicles (real or fictional): Imagine the Avengers' flying/submersible aircraft carrier pitted against the Star Ship Enterprise. Or the Seaview against the Nautilus. Mustang (fighter air plane) against the Fokker Tri-plane. Mustang (car) against any muscle car you care to name (must be stock, not…

I love the directions my relatives and neighbors provide when asked how to get to a particular place. Their answers are often couched in local and tribal knowledge, rendering them undecipherable to an outsider. I promise, this is strictly unintentional; it's just how they think & talk--from the mind set and viewpoint of a…

I don't know about this . . . seems awfully "Apple-like" . . . Give me SolarWinds Orange, and maybe a night time / day time option. And I'm good. NIGHTIME DAYTIME - YouTube

e-cigs. Vaping. Addictive contents and health consequences. "Ain't nobody got time for dat", as the lady stated. There's no need, and only problems associated with it. And it's generated by greed, perpetrated upon the vulnerable and ignorant, by those seeking wealth at the cost of those individuals' health. Why not make it…

I saw that just last week--the price of gasoline in London is high. My kids asked me why the U.S. and the U.K. have such different gasoline costs, and I couldn't provide the exact reason. Part would be the U.S. produces around 12 million barrels per day, while the U.K. produces less than one million barrels per day…

Part of your title caught my imagination: "What I wish I knew when I started in IT". I wish I'd known: * The entire big picture, from a high-up architect's point of view. @"janobi" If I were to guess at the "flavors of HULK", I'd offer that includes all the comic book characters over time, the recent Marvel Universe movie characters, the TV shows (including cartoons and human actors), and the Disney Agents of S.M.A.S.H. characters.…

Back in the Nortel days (ten+years ago) I had a Top Ten Hottest Network Rooms view. It took the information from the air input temperature sensor on my switches and posted the ten network switches with the hottest incoming temperature. And I've forgotten how to build that report, how to gather that specific info.…

One of my friends was a Senior V.P. at Polaris until a few months ago, when he retired at 57 after working there 34 years. He had toys like this coming out of his ears; his garage slept six people wonderfully, and had heated separate space for three Class A motor homes, plus collector cars, many snowmobiles, ATVs,…

I wouldn't wonder that Klingon ski resorts are . . . "challenging." Much better to ski the Star Wars universe, I think . . .

Well, the FIRST question is, Who in the world leaves their windows open when they leave home? Rain happens, burglars happen. Maybe the Smart Window would sense when I leave home and have left the windows open, and would close them as I leave. Or maybe by hitting the Close button on the garage door remote, all the windows…

Perhaps before considering the cloud one should thoroughly understand the risks and the costs? If they are deemed acceptable, then move to the next steps.

I run an older version of Kiwi; it has the ability to export all its settings, and to import new ones. Is your version showing this option under File? If it DOES, set up one server the way you want them all to be set up, then export the settings as a .ini file, and then import them into the other Kiwi servers.
