Ah, but think of how much better educated that person will be, now that they've uninstalled the core and broken everything! What a great opportunity they were able to participate in! I hope they thanked you for the learning experience, and apologized for the extended outage. Competence doesn't get my goat, but the opposite…

You might try square brackets around your compliance criteria: [VLAN 2] could possibly be what you're looking for. A pretty useful RegEx doc can be downloaded here: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/38-68359/RegEx%20Help.pdf Here's hoping it works for you! Rick S.

I'll submit in the humblest, most friendly way possible, that nothing beats RTFM for finding the answers to your needs in a thorough manner. Some M's are not well written. Some users advance more quickly with hand-holding. And "RTFM" is often a snarky response that comes far too quickly. But occasionally, it's exactly the…

Your implementation sounds basically correct. A few questions that might put you in the green: * Double-check that you didn't accidentally upload the original, or a previous verion, of the config. I agree, that's probably not what happened. * When you uploaded the modified config to the Cisco device, did you upload it to…

It seem like you might be asking "How do I create a Compliance Report that alerts us when a node's version doesn't match what we need?" Is this correct? It's pretty easy to do; I'll lay out a basic format for you to follow. You can choose to implement it or modify it or go with someone else's recommendations. First, let's…

Things I'd like or hope for (or fantastically imagine for) IPAM API: * Improved automated discovery and reporting and integration with other SW or non-SW products, including, but not limited to:* Microsoft AD & DNS * Infoblox * Any other "standardized" vendor's deployment of DHCP and DNS * Cisco security solutions…

Thank goodness you provided links to episodes 1, 2, and 3 in your 4th installment. I somehow missed these earlier submissions.

Sign me up. I was surprised/disappointed the orange highlighted area didn't bring me to the page in which I could enter my ideas.

Some years ago I built or modified a report in Report Writer on the NPM server that should be easy to customize for your use. 1. Go to the NPM server and start Report Writer. 2. Find and modify an appropriate "nodes down" report, or build your own to look like this: I put a 24-hour variation of this report in my NPM's…

Upgrade to the current version, get the bugs fixed, and get a lot of great new features.

Would you be comfortable posting the output of "show int gi0/0/0". What kinds of stats are on that port, paying particular attention to dropped packets / discards? If your NPM is monitoring that port's bandwidth, it might be revealing to see your screen shot of the min/max/average bits per second of that interface for the…

I've learned from SW staff that NTA's SQL database will run in the Orion SQL database in the future. I've no idea when, but that's something to think about when designing HA.

I agree with this request. Although it's a best practice to not log into any application with more administrative rights than required, it's also a big inconvenience to have multiple logins, each with different rights. The previous, non 12.2 method, was very suitable to our environment when it didn't have the Edit bar on…

No one internal has approached me for a comprehensive suite. I have been approached by outside I.T. Monitoring/Management vendors, though.

As your consider your needs and options, don't miss out looking into SolarWinds NAM, which can provide you more of the things you need under one package. I bought it over a year ago and have not regretted lowering my support costs and doing easier upgrades by having one product instead of several. NAM includes: * NPM * NCM…

When did this become available? With NPM 12.2? Or 12.3?

There are a few possible reasons why adding your node to NPM via snmp is failing. The easy and obvious ones are: * Typos in either the NPM community string or the snmp string on the node. Verify them on both sides. * Access Control List rule(s) in the node that define which snmp pollers are allowed to talk to the node with…

Consider testing your equipment using a different MIB in Solarwinds. This thread fixed the same issue for me: Re: Hardware Health Polling - Preferred Cisco MIB

In my environment, I'd ask one of my Database Analysts to review the status of the Orion SQL database. On occasion they may report one or more queries is hung, and they'll release it for me. Data between the polling engine and the database begins to flow then. If you're only concerned with trying to immediately restore…

If your main site is wiped out, you won't need to worry about waiting for a monitor to send you an SMS. Your boss will be in touch, as will your Help Desk, and all the Technical Support staff in your organization, not to mention all the complaints that will come from your customers. If you want something for free, your…

Yes, and you can monitor volume on many other "server-like" systems, too. I can view (and be alerted on) the volume of my F5's, my Sidewinders, volume trends, available space, problem volumes, etc. Plus, you can create custom pollers and reports if you have special needs. This is what's available right out of the box:

I suspect the duplication comes from one alert monitoring Send AND Transmit. If one interface exceeds the threshold on the Send, that's one alert. When the matching other interface exceeds the threshold for Receive, that's a second alert. One way to test this would be to separate the two conditions into completely separate…

I only have a thousand switches/routers/firewalls, and perhaps 5000 servers. Our naming convention makes the "Search" function work well--no filters are needed. My team's primarily concerned with Network Transport solutions, and every site has a short and unique name code that is intuitive to search on. It also has some…

The problem is identified, and is not an Orion issue, but caused by the PIBKAC. My backup schedule has resulted in NCM comparing the startup config and running config on multiple devices that have been recently upgraded. The running-config references the new code version, the startup-config references the old code version,…

Let's assume that you have added each node to NCM, and told NCM to get the configs by telnet or SSH, and not by snmp, when you added the node initially. NCM will use whatever protocol you set it up with for each switch or router. You shouldn't have to choose one or the other when executing a bulk configuration command.…

In my instance with the VPN problem, I selected port 22 (SSH) and changed no other firewall rules. But I DID choose to discover the path to the remote VPN appliance's external address instead of an internal one, and I DID force the routing to go out a different firewall--which shares the same external subnet for my…

josh.bentley95 I'll be watching this since I've read several times that VNQM and Nexus 7K's don't play nicely together for Jitter reports/alerts. If you find an answer to your question, please note me in the acknowledgement so I can see what's happening. Rick Schroeder

I run NPM, NCM, SAM, IPAM, UDT, VNQM and one poller on the same server, and have four additional pollers. No problems. The VM instance on which the apps reside has eight CPU's running 2800 Mhz (3000 Mhz is recommended), and 32 GB of RAM. It keeps our systems montitored and backed up.

Here's the top section of a "show log" on one of my 7609's. I'd expect you'd have somewhat similar output. Note that this box is logging to multiple destinations. #sho log Syslog logging: enabled (0 messages dropped, 19 messages rate-limited, 0 flushes, 0 overruns, xml disabled, filtering disabled) No Active Message…

I think you'll find doing this may be easier (and more fun!) than you expect. Even better, you don't need to create much of a new web address. Just a new view and some limitations based on what you want people to see when they log in. I use Active Directory Users & Groups, which ties in sweetly to NPM, to set who can log…
