This sounds much like the dreaded "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The non-intuitive error in this case is cased by a monitor applied to a node that has been removed. The recommended solution is to remove custom monitors from nodes before deleting the nodes. IMHO, the right solution would be for SW…

What was the resolution for this issue?

I've successfully tftp'd files across the WAN that are 48.5 MB. In my case it seemed that tftp wasn't an issue so much as doing the transfers during off hours, when WAN bandwidth wasn't an issue. You could test by installing the SW TFTP Server on two laptops and transferring 25MB between them.

Thanks for the smile!

Even more primitive, do a ping sweep of the subnet and see what doesn't respond. Or go to the router, clear the arp cache, and then ping the subnet ID or broadcast address from the router. The look for addresses without ARP entries.

The date on the "What's New" section here seems rather old: Server Configuration Monitor (SCM) One might infer some stagnation from the dated info.

You may need to talk with TAC if you don't find the procedure for your specific model & version of WLC. Some thoughts: Check this link: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/237929#237929 Also this one:…

Your best bet may be to install the Solarwinds License Manager on both PC's, then use it to migrate the licenses from one to the other. License Manager release notes - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support How To Move A License You can search Thwack for "how to move a license", too. When you can't find what you need…

NPM should be able to tell you which AP's are yours, and which are rogue. Start by making sure all your AP's are in NPM, then build heat maps showing their coverage, and then build a report to show AP's present that aren't yours. You won't have the right info until you get some good filtering in place, because every…

I just purchased NAM, and am seeking the right information to correctly allocate the right VM resources, a list of modules which can be co-located on the same server(s) (if any!), and the best practice installation procedures for: * Adding another poller to an existing NPM deployment * Installing and adding to my current…

This venue may not be the best in which to solicit non-Solarwinds-related topics. You might find better acceptance and participating by submitting it in the "Fun & Geeky" section, rather than in "Announcements."

The SL100 lets you monitor 100 "elements" (100 interfaces, 100 volumes, and 100 nodes). It may not be big enough to let you monitor all interfaces on even a single node. This is because a node may have many interfaces. If you want or need to monitor more than 100 Interfaces, there are things you're going to have to…

The solution to your request seems simpler than other respondents have provided. If you get NPM internally, simply set it up to monitor an external web site. It could be as simple as sending ICMP to 8.8.8.8. Of course, configure your firewall(s) to allow the NPM monitoring traffic. If your internet path fails, you'll get…

I, too, wish to remove the Help link from a certain view. Did you determine a method of accomplishing this on a per-user or View basis?

I suspect if you submitted this as a feature request you'd find a fair number of folks joining in with you. I'd love to be able to retain stats on one interface for a significantly different period of time than all interfaces. It'd be a great way to save disk / db space. I monitor 50,000+ elements, but most I only care…

I suspect you will find that multiple polling engines will not be an issue if they all report to the same primary instance of NPM. I move nodes between polling engines as needed to ensure no one polling engine is overloaded. The inconvenience comes if you are tidy and OCD like me, and have configured your nodes to report…

I discovered SW had the points vendor do a manual recalculation of rank for a handful of folks who are squeaky wheels (like me). The points/leader board are NOT fixed--it's only the MVP's and some folks with specific complaints who had their totals manually adjusted to get things back in line for them. From…

It appears the Leaderboard is fixed!

I submit the hypothesis that sometimes we'd be better off receiving a Quality Of Experience (or other Application functionality) alert to eliminate false positive high CPU alerts (or any other system process or hardware alert that could end up causing performance degradation). The assumption is that high CPU utilization is…

This remains a classic example of excellent information being shared to the world--very useful data!--for free. Thwack continues to rock, on and on . . . In fact, you could call it:

Some of us are hoping Avaya's financial restructuring will mean the company can resume and become a viable and profitable solution in the future. However, they touched Nortel, and maybe they're contaminated with bad luck as a result. Avaya Inc. Files for Chapter 11 Protection " . . . has commenced a formal proceeding to…

Have you checked out the icons in the upper right side of any node's NPM page? From left to right, they are: * Web Browse to the node * SSH to the node * Telnet to the node * Launch SolarWinds Ping Tool * Launch SolarWinds Traceroute Tool * RDP to the node If you don't have these icons, you may need to modify your…

Yes, this product IS good. In fact, Orion is a suite of twenty-nine applications that are good. I use several of its modules all day, every day, and it works for me all night, every night, tracking changes and alerting me to the status of configurations and connections. Its reports are useful and beautiful. I strongly…

I'm sorry I don't have the exact information you request, but your query brought some ideas to mind: * If IoT or other devices become bricked by net scans, that's a significant red flag. Someone will eventually scan them, and you're probably well advised to remove or remediate those devices proactively before they end up…

A vendor just pointed out to me that Splunk has an ASA module that reportedly provides significant improvement in parsing and filtering ASA syslogs. Let's have Splunk and Solarwinds do a head-to-head duke-em-out comparison and analysis. My money's on Orion being superior, but it MIGHT BE that I'm just a little bit biased .…

I've got about 60 ASA from stand alone 5505's in VIP's homes to HA 5555's in multiple data centers. Some features I'd love Orion modules to cover include: * Vulnerability Reports* They'd have to compare existing versions with recommended versions of Cisco code. * They'd also need to analyze and alert on poor logic in ACL…

I've contacted one third party vendor for consultation, training our staff, and configuration of our Orion modules. The price for one trainer's time was $2K/week remote, or $2.5K/week on-site plus actual expenses. Depending on how frustrated you are, and how important it is to have a great deployment going immediately, it…
