Nice info--thank you. An intuitive and expected solution from SW would be for it to predict or forecast disk size requirements on a scheduled basis, or on demand, after having some time (a week? ten days? a month?) to discover a growth trend for NTA data. This should be expanded to include any other solutions that consume…

One thing I ended up doing was setting up polling of the various NPM servers by remote NPM pollers. That way I at least know when the regional NPM hardware is unavailable. I also poll the regional routers / gateways from my local NPM solution, which lets me know which regional routers are actually up or down, even though…

I did not have to run the Configuration Wizard on any of the APE's. The upgrades on all the APE's ran automatically as part of the upgrade on the Main Instance. I did not have to RDP into any of the APE's for this upgrade to happen and succeed. A thing of beauty! Everything after the initial main instance's update happens…

We converted to SSL. There were no issues after ensuring the appropriate certificate was created and installed.

LM isn't part of NAM, I don't have a license for it. Sadly, adatole, that means it's not a player in my game. Or am I mistaken?
-
I do already have the view displaying all the correct vendor devices. The problem lies in not being able to filter out certain devices by their caption. Do you have a method for accomplishing that?
-
Oooooo! THAT'S PURTY! I've got to give that a try--slightly different than mesverrum's solution. I LIKE it!
-
I like the idea. The implementation appears to be onerous. But I like the idea, and can see how it would work--once the implementation and associations have been made! That's the "automatic" part I'm hoping to learn. If SWQL or another tool could automatically look up the Node ID from information already on the page, and…

I see where you're going here; I don't think it's the solution for my need. I want one photograph per node, one node per page. For example: * I'll click on any node in NPM and its page will open * In that page I'd like to see a single photograph of the node displayed (or a photo of the entire network rack in which the node…

Like superfly99, we use Cisco PRIME to handle our Thin APs and their notifications. Now understand that I haven't yet pointed NPM and my WLC 5508's at each other, but the 5508's put out so much syslog data that I'm just about ready to go out on a limb and say that NPM can probably duplicate any lightweight AP status…

I like what that sounds like. But when I test it, the way I've built it is calculating the amount of time between the first even and the last event. That's not right--the device was up and down a few times in between--and mostly up. The Total Duration In Minutes between the first outage and the last recovery is not the…

Agreed. Are you running NPM 12.1?

I had about a hundred Unknown devices and I finally got down & dirty to manually categorize them all. Many were medical devices that Security doesn't want snmp strings on, but their operators want to know if the devices are offline. I'd been monitoring them only with ICMP just fine, but I found happiness when I used a…

These are all wired devices. The job will be interesting to build/run. New to me. Syntax is no problem, whether IOS or Catlyst. I do know all the devices' MACs & IP addresses. The hope was that there'd be a relatively easy way to get the switch port information using NCM, but I'm not seeing it yet. So far all I've got is a…

Thanks for the response, ctlswadmin. Yes, I don't have UDT--I think things would be simpler with it. I'd love to delve deeper into your suggestion. I don't have some important basics--perhaps you could clue me in on a couple of them? * How do you run your queries against the config tables? I've never done this, and…

Many thanks for your efforts and tireless striving to provide an accurate accounting and deployment of points, Lindsey and Leon! On the other hand, how's a person supposed to climb over others' ranks if everyone is allowed to keep getting points? Not that I'd wish for gaming the gaming system, but it was fun for that short…

You and your team are the best, DanielleH! And even more so for getting back to my post so quickly--AND on a SATURDAY! Go have a life and enjoy your weekend!

If you can remove Solarwinds products from PCI's scope, life will be much simpler . . . On the other hand, you'll lose the power of NCM's backups & restores & remediation & scripting features, and that's NOT a matter of simplicity. Operating a PCI environment in the dark is not a great practice.

Maybe a ticket is the right avenue to try. And maybe my NPM polling and APC Monitoring will magically sync up like yours!
-
This is a good reminder! Thanks d09h. SNMP traps and syslog messages are BOTH required for the right data to reach a network administrator. When Solarwinds only uses ICMP to determine availability, it gives us only one part of the picture. Set up traps AND syslog information to be sent from your switches, routers, and…

Names & Titles, left to right, please? I rarely get to place a name with a Solarwinds face unless it's in a training video, and we've all seen Kong & Leon & friends many times. But some of these faces are new to me.

Some ideas come to mind--maybe you'll look into them and find something, maybe not. . . I'm open to the idea that this might be a "feature" of your version of NCM--which version are you using? I'm testing it on Platforms 2014.2.1 with NCM 7.3.2, and 2015.1.2 with NCM 7.4. Both of them put all the data for long lines on a…

The graphic I provided should show a bunch of "No" entries at top, and a few Yes entries at the bottom. But the graphic is obfuscated in the Thwack forum view, but clear and in plain view when I edit that comment. When I OK the comment it is published blurry and obfuscated again. Very unexpected and overly secure.

There was a typo in my response--our controllers are 8540's, not 8450's.
-
We use Cisco 3702i AP's (about 2400 of them at the moment) which will move to 3802i's in the coming months, and a group of Cisco 8450 HA Wireless Controllers.

Thank you, John. We use Prime here, with great satisfaction. But I wanted to ensure I had exposed my team to the Heat Maps from NPM. I also wanted the experience of building them in a different product than Prime. Certainly NPM's floor plan scale entry is WORLDS of improvement over Prime's! On the other hand, Prime has…

I've been biting my tongue on this one for a while. Please take this as a gentle and friendly idea, and not a criticism or attack, or even an unreasonable recommendation. * Work towards not treating the symptoms. Instead, treat the cause. Rather than creating ACL's to compensate for limitations on the problem gear,…

No, I haven't, Jiri. My understanding of Regex use in Comparison Criteria made many assumptions, perhaps most of which are incorrect. My thoughts were: ^2015 = Ignore any line that ONLY contained 2015 ^*2015 = Ignore any line that ended in 2015 ^*2015* = Ignore any line that had 2015 in it anywhere. I've removed the…
