My organization has only a hundred satellite locations, all within 500 miles of each other. We don't run into 200 ms latency anywhere, and I apologize I don't have what you need to get the job done. I suggest you reach out to SolarWinds sales and discuss your design challenges and see what solutions SolarWinds' engineers…

I can only imagine life WITH SAM. ;^) My SA's rely on the freeware version of Nagios to tell them the status of their servers. It's hard to beat free, but Nagios doesn't make beautiful reports, and doesn't come close to presenting an integrated single pane of glass (IMHO).

The distance APE responds in 11 ms. The middle one responds in 5 ms. Both have gig WAN connectivity to my MPLS cloud. The rest of the AP's all respond in submillisecond; they are local to my main data centers, living in UCS chasses with 40 GB connectivity to the network.

Running an NCM script against those nodes is probably the route to take, if the info isn't already in the database. I was hoping to avoid executing a custom script through NCM because NCM doesn't show the output as a grouped report. Instead, I have to open up the output for every switch (there are about sixty of them). My…

When I go the route of creating a new Report, selecting a Table-style report, and enter in the query, I also see the error: I apologize for my lack of experience with databases and queries. I'm certain there's some obvious / assumed parts I'm missing right from the start. Can you help me understand what newbie steps I'm…

I like what you've got going there, but I'm not data-base-compliant with my skill sets. I did try running the query in SDK's SWQL studio, but it created an error: I'm very open to learning what I'm doing wrong, if you have a moment to help clarify the process for me!

I did the EOC thing for a few years because I had four regional NPM instances as the result of mergers & acquisitions. It's really not the way to go for that small a solution--it takes a long time to update status from the pollers. I talked with SW about it, they said they built it for much larger implementations. I…

True. But ugly. Still, an accurate answer if you can get it to route the way it's needed. Good thinking.

The details of the error: 2018-10-10 12:01:09,194 [120] ERROR SolarWinds.InformationService.DataProviders.SqlQueryRelation - SWQL Studio (null) An SqlException occurred. Message: Column 'dbo.InterfaceAvailability.InterfaceID' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the…

I ran it on my SDK and got this error: Here's where my SWQL / SQL ignorance shows. I bet this problem is fixable, but I don't know the syntax to change or add or remove. Thank you for the first stab at it, though! Might you have an idea how to remedy the error, mesverrum?

It sounds like a combination of good advice and security-through-obscurity, which might be negated with a port scan by those script kiddies looking for open ports. In that kind of environment, I've recommendations for putting ACLs on all equipment to define a specific host, or small number of hosts, from which management…

Please expand on this topic. I'm new to NCM, am running 5.1 SP5, and am having problems with NCM using TFTP for transfering files off my Nortel L2 and L3 switches. Is the work around as simple as disabling a TFTP service in the Windows Services, and then installing the latest SW TFTP server as a service, or putting it in…

It turned out more simple a solution than I expected. I'd incorrectly selected Current Status of Nodes, Volumes, Etc., and there is no option to display/select Interfaces from that section. The correct solution was to go back and select Current Status of Nodes, Interfaces, etc. Thanks for the response. It helped me come up…

Yes. It is. It would be easy to spend more hours on Thwack than doing paid-for work.

Don't sweat it. I signed up in 2004 and only have half of RadioTeacher's points. The first ten years I wasn't active--only seeking answers, not participating.

Changing the View per your suggestion is useful, jhandberg. I've used it to good purpose. I'm hoping instead that Solarwinds has a solution that doesn't require individually setting different display options for every different kind of device. One would hope that simply adding the "Cisco ASA: Advanced Cisco ASA…

Quang hit it right on the money--when you build a map, all of the nodes contained within it have a check mark after them in Atlas. If you have a spreadsheet of all your sites & nodes, compare it against the checked items in Atlas.

I like the concept, but all lines aren't blank in this case; they simply are shifted one or more rows up or down, depending on whether a network object higher up in the config has been removed or added. I do have the "ignore blank lines" defined; I don't think it's applicable in this case.

Yes, NPM 12.4 is available now. I'm participating in the NPM 12.5 Beta at the moment. 12.4 seems to be working very well in my environment of 50,000+ monitored IP addresses, a hundred remote sites, 200+ network rooms, 100+ firewalls in an all-Cisco environment. I'm using NPM via NAM, and I've seen good improvements in 12.4…

I did NOT try that--and it looks to be working! Thank you, mesverrum! Where online can I find a syntax-education site that will help me make SQL filters that work on the first try with Solarwinds?

^ THIS!

Some say his amazing network insight is actually the result of sharing mind space in the Etheric with a Kurtherian Artificial Intelligence. And that his socks say SolarWinds no matter whether worn normally OR INSIDE-OUT! Some say his meteoric rise to Thwack super-stardom is the result of his learning native Alaskans'…

It's real data, not an average. But it's only accurate to the frequency that you poll, and is affected by your long-term data compression & retention settings. For example, if you were polling a router every second with your PC, and the router rebooted, you'd see immediate packet loss for the amount of time it takes the…

Strangely, each time I click your link, the connection is remotely reset. Might there be a white list assigned to it, and as a result I'm unable to view its contents?
-
That's an idea I hadn't thought of. Ideally the solution would always show only five specific hard drives' free/used disk space. I'm still looking for a response that ends up with that as the final output. It would be nice to have build it so it can show up as a dedicated window in NPM's front page.

* Do you use IPAM for your DHCP solution? (I know that sounds odd; some folks could use it for a monitor, without letting it manage/lease addresses) * Do you have IPAM set to discover your used addresses (if you don't use IPAM as a DHCP solution)? * How frequently does IPAM rediscover/verify addresses that are in use? We…

For better or worse, he seems to have picked up my lack of interest in alcohol. I think my aversion to it came from growing up in a family dominated by a man addicted to alcohol, one who became violent when inebriated--which was too frequent. If that wasn't sufficient incentive to avoid the stuff, I later learned a genetic…

I dropped a few of the fields you provided to make this: SELECT TOP 10000 ae.ConnectedTo, ae.HostName, ae.IPAddress, ae.MACAddress, ae.MACVendor, ae.PortNumber, ae.PortName, ae.VLAN, n.MachineType, n.SysName, n.Description, n.Location FROM Orion.UDT.AllEndpoints ae INNER JOIN Orion.Nodes n on n.NodeID = ae.NodeID It has…

Thanks, I'll give this a try tomorrow!

ISE version 2 was problematic--it couldn't do TACACS. ISE v3 and newer have the TACACS issues resolved, and we rely on ISE for RADIUS, TACACS, and NAC now. I'm satisfied with it (but I don't see the $$ bills!).
