All that info you desire is included in the resulting or running Switch Port Mapper from the Engineer's Toolset. Which (I believe) is free to install on APE's, so all your staff can use their features from your pollers. Or, until you get what you want from your Feature Request, how about running some regularly scheduled…

There's only one description for the state of Thwack in August 2017:
-
If there were a way for Harvey's victims to benefit from Thwack points, I know someone with 30k or 40k to spare . . . T-shirts? Cups? Is there a process to donate Thwack points and convert them into SW Swag to give to Harvey victims?

I wrote to all Thwack MVP's, asking if they'd had a pencil lead puncture incident, maybe even had the graphite break off inside their bodies. All but four responders reported they carried pencil lead in their hands or knees or elsewhere at one time or another. Some, like me, were just goofing around and being careless.…

I don't know that I eat more bacon in the winter months than other times, but I do know that I tend to appreciate the little things even more when daylight is scarce and it's cold outside. And what better way to appreciate life than learning better ways to cook your bacon? What--you say know already KNOW the best ways to…

I like your handle better than most. Clever and ironic and intuitive, all in one blow. Efficient!

Privacy Not Included: It's simple: Just say "no" to IoT toys. Or, use them, but don't connect them to any network. There are any number of excellent examples of people and businesses being compromised by IoT devices. Folks assume that IoT devices must be secure and safe to use, or they wouldn't be allowed to be sold. If…

Using Orion products to show Management that my department was understaffed was key in getting faster resolution to Service Desk issues. Not to mention it moved from from being one Network person supporting 14,000 computers to two Network people managing 40,000 devices, to six of us managing even more. An outside vendor…

I don't know the solution, other than raising "better" kids who are exposed to selflessness and altruism. And exposing all parts of the system to the light of day and fresh air. It's amazing what an unbiased newspaper or television reporting crew can do to correct problems with waste and need, corruption or nepotism, or to…

It's a sure bet that virtually all companies will be out of compliance to one degree or another after the deadline passes. Too little attention is paid to compliance until AFTER a problem has surfaced.

There's nothing quite like KNOWING everything is running properly and is secured to your own personal standards.

Wishing my employer would allow me to attend . . .

Thank you for sharing the story about New Orleans. It provides a ray of hope in a world filled with unethical actors.

The general deployment will probably be in June. Right now it's in RC mode, and to get it you had to sign up a while back and indicate interest. Don't worry, it's coming for everyone. It's best the get it 100% right for your install than to get it a little early and discover something you might wish had been done…

The "solution" is to modify NPM to use TACACS. I get all the requested information from my TACACS servers' logs, plus TACACS either allows or denies access to every device, and to every command on every TACACS-compatible-device, with full logging. Now, if only SW would only buy out Cisco and implement awesome compatibility…

I.T. Worker sees/hear management problem/blocker/nay-sayer/closed-minded-individual and thinks to himself "Hmm, I wonder if there's an app for correcting business leadership?"

That's beyond creepy. It's already being done illegally without our permission. Now there'll be an additional database of all the devices, IP addresses, street addresses, user names, and passwords--all associated with your home and your business. And it'll promptly be hacked and stolen and sold. Nope. Today's just…

I tried out Fun & Geeky Saturday a.m., immediately saw some recent interesting content I'd missed before. But each one I checked out had no option to click Reply or Comment, making it hard to contribute ideas. Is this intentional or did I just happen to stumble on some threads that, for some reason, happen to not…

A CIO must have complete veto power over any budget request. The I.T. Director must provide teams of experts to analyze the request and the product recommended--in advance of its purchase. There should be no POC grandfathered in for convenience. Every solution must be understood and compatible with the organization's…

It makes sense. One option we've used over the years is to install a small Cisco ASA at a home user's location if they're a full-time telecommuter. But it means paying for static addresses from their ISP and manually configuring the user's ASA to build a tunnel with our corporate ASA. Later, when their ISP gives away their…

I think PerfStack is underappreciated, and the July 6 question highlights some of PerfStack's wonderfulness.

Remember ATM? It was the next big thing, back in the 90's. We waited it out, and it was obsoleted quickly enough that we were able to go to Gig Ethernet WAN and MPLS instead of taking a trip down ATM Lane. But there were times when I thought we'd be investing in it . . .

Putting the right heads together, heads that REALLY know the network, the apps, the hardware, the security, the users, the storage, etc., and then building something with SW that covers all areas and escalates top issues to the front page of that single-pane-of-glass is critical. If you can't do that, the single-pane isn't…

You mentioned FOMO, and it reminded me of a recent event. A friend just finished dealing with the aftermath of a DDOS impacting their business, brought about by FOMO with The Cloud. Executives couldn't prove using cloud services was going to improve their production; they just knew "everyone is moving to the cloud". They…

A well-implemented tool is a thing of beauty. Build yours to do what you expect and need, and then reap the benefits.

Today's Hint (Thursday, February 22), is exactly the kind of example I love to see in a mission. Practical use of a tool, and seeing how the tool works and how it can speed resolution of issues. Thanks for this one!

Keep looking. I've worked for two of them, and I'd go back to either of them in a heart beat if they could pay me what I need, and if their original bosses/owners were still in charge. For me, it's the people I work with who make or break the job. And I work with some great guys at present!
