Yes, that part I treated as a given. It's the details of the implementation I seek.

12.4 has been an improvement for me. I see fewer problems now than in earlier versions of 12. I recognize and appreciate how I spend less time tweaking & tuning & opening up SW Support Cases these days.

Hi, John. You can build a script easily for NCM to use that will add SSH, and you can save that script for easy use on future setups. It's as simple as documenting what you'd do at the command prompt, then pasting it into the Excecute Script area. For example, in any text editor, put down what you'd use to make SSH active.…

The only thing I came up with were a couple of HP J4865A ProCurv Switch 4108GL setups for OIDs 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.23 and 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11. The .23 is: <!--SolarWinds Network Management Tools--> <!--Copyright 2007 SolarWinds.Net All rights reserved--> <Configuration-Management Device="HP J4865A ProCurve Switch…

I'm surprised--I rely on UDT to see where end devices live, and who's logged into them. It saves me a good chunk of time tracking devices to ports manually, and the SQL database is mined by my CMDB for tracking devices & users, too. But that's all I got it for, and it does the job pretty well. I monitor everything else…

Those are great notes. And they are exactly what SW Support did on the pollers that had their C drives filled. But Support did NOT do this on all pollers . . .
-
Sorry, I've not leveraged this capability yet. I don't personally know anyone who has. Rick
-
Impressive--most impressive! Obi-Wan has taught you well! I'm looking forward to testing this on my Net Insight ACLs and seeing what the output looks like.
-
The hot fix corrected the problem in my SW environment. NetPath is much improved by it.

If you haven't already verified or resolved the packet loss issue, what have you done to prove there's loss, or no loss? If you remoted into your NPM poller that says there's packet loss, and set a steady ping to nodes that show high packet loss in NPM, your results should prove whether there is packet loss. Have you tried…
-
jeff.stewart, would you please post more information about that fix? I have the same problem. Also, if that's not it, remember that ICMP is not a high-priority protocol. A firewall or router or switch will answer ICMP requests if configured to do so, but only after their main duties (forwarding packets to / from computers…

I always enjoy talking with SW staff about products, changes, experiences, new directions, improvement suggestions . . . No other company I've interacted with has been so open and forthcoming and involved me by asking for input that can help direct that company's future paths. Thank you!
-
Mark, yours is the method I thought I'd probably end up using, but I was hoping there was something someone was already using to provide a simple and fast useful output. I"ll build a Compliance Report that searches for the required config lines and try to figure out a pretty way to count the switches and switchports. But…

My SQL/SWQL ignorance is demonstrated to all, for my embarrassment. "Joins" are news to me. I'd totally be up for either a Solarwinds interface that intuitively included all the SDK generate statements, along with an intuitive GUI editor, or a "SDK Statement Editing For Dummies, Unabridged Edition" book online. Thank you,…

Sometimes I think Trek didn't get the huge love that Star Wars did because Trek had more morals and rationale examination of real life current societal issues, and also it was team-driven by the Federation, by the ship, and by the captains. Whereas Star Wars seemed much easier to place yourself in anyone's role, and…

I agree--njoylif provided the right solution. You could ping or monitor a node, but since it's outside and you don't want to make it a node, WPM is the way to go.

Dotting all those "i's" and crossing all those "t's" ends up with a clean install. It would be interesting to learn what caused your particular monitoring setup to turn out the way it did, but that's probably long past discovery. If it were me, I'd suspect operator error, but your environment is different. Maybe your…

Anything to save the SW Help Desk folks from getting useless tickets from us! It's hard when any manufacturer's gear doesn't respond to standard polling OIDs the way it's supposed to. Anytime you folks at Solarwinds want to buy out Cisco & redesign their IOS and hardware so it's all standard, that'd be OK by me . . . ;^)
-
Have you had any luck monitoring/managing your Firepower solutions with NPM and NCM?
-
It seems so. The latest time I did it, I saw this new "feature":
-
My Cert Manager asks in what format I need the cert--*.cer *.p7b or *.pfx? Thoughts? Recommendations? He can provide any of them, but he already has a cer in .pfx format. Is that suitable for this work?
-
Thanks. I've got the NFR license for MVP status, so the license isn't an issue.
-
You'll have a great upgrade experience, I predict. The new installers/updaters are much improved over last October. I wished I'd had SW Support WebExed in to assist my process, but after all was done, and had multiple issues, serena was gracious and kindly provided early access to unpublished installers that cleaned up so…
-
I experienced many of those same issues, and a dozen or two Support tickets later they've been resolved. The best solution is the one I recently implemented through the kind graces of serena. I recommend you: * Carefully document each individual issue * Aggregate similar problems into Solarwinds Support tickets * Work…

I have MANY improvements with the latest code versions, and very few caveats or items left to tweak and tune. I really like the installer that was just updated on 1/16/2018. It fixed every complaint I had in the installation and APE Polling Engine install areas.
-
I can second your observation in regards to the new Manage Entities screen. Once it was corrected so it actually worked, I used it for a while, just to see if there were efficiencies gained by it. And like you, I shut it off. It is significantly less efficient than the previous solution. It does not display all the nodes…
-
Agreed. It sounds like you've experienced many of the things I did during my upgrade. More interesting (to me) is the fact that running certain hot fixes followed by the Scaleability Engine updates on the pollers resulted in dual Wizards opening on every APE. Running each simultaneously guaranteed both to fail. Running the…

I checked out the Shared Thwack Pollers and found one that provided much more ASA hardware & interface information. I tested it and found it compatible with my ASA's. Downloaded it, applied it, and now my firewall admins are significantly more impressed with NPM. Check it out, see if it is good for your ASA's.
-
There IS a hot fix available for NCM 12.2; I don't know if it addresses your ASA issues, though. Check it out and apply it--it sounds like it's helped plenty of people already. I recently upgraded to NCM 12.2, and applied the hot fix. The only issues I've seen so far have been my ASA 5525-X models aren't getting the right…

sholmes, I'm glad my answer was able to resolve the issue for you. Way to go! Rick S.
