That might take a Cisco TAC case or Solarwinds Support case to answer accurately. I see a few different responses to that question: * Maybe SW cannot do what you want--manage a node with one IP address and receive network management information from the same node on a different interface/address, while still appearing to…

Yes, I successfully did that migration from 12.01 to 12.2. However, I added in some extra steps, and the initial upgrade to 12.2 had significant issues that were later resolved with changes to the product (hot fixes were released, new Installers were released) that I wish I had waited for. I was pretty hot to get the new…

Wow. That's a big task, and a great reason for advising customers to keep up to date. Thank goodness the newer updaters provide more goodness!

After going through the same upgrade, I found several items that improve performance by adjusting them: * Ensure failing NetPath monitors are removed. * Reduce logging to NPM and offload it to a SIEM. I can easily send seven or eight million syslog messages per second (yes, PER SECOND!) to NPM, and NPM's SLX onboard syslog…

I don't know how to do that at the moment, but I bet aLTeReGo can help you with this!

If you don't have an Edit link on the upper right portion of the page, then you don't have sufficient administrative rights. The Edit button comes with permissions to Edit automatically. Go to NPM Settings and find the link to check your permissions/rights and adjust them so you're an Admin on this resource. Once that's…

That's very encouraging, blsanner My Product Upgrade Advisor says it doesn't handle NPM 12.2-only 12.1. I think this might have been why it was suggested I upgrade from 12.01. to 12.1--that perhaps the PUA could handle going from 12.1 to 12.2, but not from 12.0.1 to 12.2. Was this new installer something you had to…

Yes, we looked into SD-WAN. There are incredible amounts of limitations and gotcha's, and we end up multiplying our ISP costs by 100 sites, multiplying our firewall and proxy filter requirements by 100 sites,

I don't mind. Sadly (?) I'm not at work, so I don't have accurate info to share with you. But I'm running five pollers, all complete all of their tasks on time using the default timers. NPM, NCM, NTA, UDT, IPAM, VNQM. A few interfaces we poll every ten seconds, most are only polled every 120 seconds, and I monitor ALL…

I'm not aware of published Cisco advisories specifically saying how long they deem a SPAN port should be supported. I've been told by TAC not to do it more than a day, but finding an official "Don't do this for longer than . . ." is probably something Cisco won't publish if they don't want to appear to have limitations.…

Thank you, John. Someone at SW should be aware of this (perhaps serena ?) and ensuring the team responsible is helping the product's functionality to evolve, or working to remove it entirely from NPM.

I'm sorry to admit the process remains just that tiny bit over my head. I have a work around that produced this view, which isn't nearly as cool as I imagine the process could be. But it DOES use the script above! All it took was getting the correct syntax into the node names.

When I setup NetPath I ensure I'm using ports that are listened to by the target. In most cases 443 is all that's required, but in some cases it may be other (potentially non-standard) ports. There's no point in testing port 80 if the target requires 443. This is a great reason for relying on NetPath instead of traceroute.…

WELL! I didn't expect THAT! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiDhMXzprrRAhWLqlQKHQAqAscQyCkI… (I love the leather pilot helmet & old goggles--nothing like a little anachronism to lend humor)

Oh dear . . . I thought the bugs were worked out of this . . .

O for consistency!

If you don't see it, you may need to go into the administrative settings and give your account more rights. Settings > All Settings Admin > Accounts > Select your account Edit your account Scroll down to the lower section, beneath Default Summary View. Open the Performance Analysis Settings Beside "Allow Real-Time…

Contact Solarwinds via phone to open a Support Request; they'll have ideas and the methods to accomplish them.
-
I'm unaware of such a method. I'd think that providing it would allow folks to try to fool auditors by clearing the alerts while not removing their cause. I recommend you open a support case with Solarwinds and learn what they recommend. If you do, please post their suggestions and procedures here, so we all can learn from…

The status icon is very much in demand, here. Plus, I have no need for the lines containing "for Filtered Nodes" or "Caption" to take up space in the view. I want strictly down nodes whose caption matches the filter syntax: (Status = 0 OR Status = 2) AND Caption not like 'NWCC*' AND (Caption like '*SW*' OR Caption like…

I've been running betas in Test environment with good results and helpful information to send back to SW. I don't run beta in Production.

It's time to contact TAC. You DO have a support contract, right?

Here's an example of a Sidewinder captured audit of me trying to ping yahoo, which is denied by corporate policy: Admn {1} % showaudit -kH x.x.x.x 2016-08-01 10:49:46 -0500 f_kernel_ipfilter a_general_area t_attack p_major hostname: firewall category: policy_violation event: ACL deny attackip: x.x.x.x attackzone: Internal…

Yes, you've got the concept.

This is a good example of how following up with your support specialist, or with the client needing the support, can help complete the story.
-
The only thing I have to offer is that Support has instructed me to call them instead of opening tickets online. Calls with major outages are treated with more alacrity. Support told me they're hiring--numerous openings are present. Here's hoping your problem is resolved quickly!

I had the same thing with Cisco 3850's and 3650's and a slightly older version of NPM/NCM. The issue was resolved when we upgraded to the current version 11.5.2 and 7.4. I bet the Nexus 56128's will be recognized at the next version upgrade, just as my newer Cisco switches were unrecognized by Machine Type previously, and…

I contact my SQL DBAs and ask them to perform an automated or manual or scheduled Orion SQL database at my convenience or at theirs. The process takes about 20 minutes, and the tool sends me an e-mail stating when the successful backup is complete. It's not a VM snapshot, but a regular SQL backup.

Let's slightly modify your interpretation of what said: it seems that Industry engineers (perhaps including Solarwinds staff) determined how Solarwinds Netflow recognizes applications. You'll need to read the RFC's and become familiar with Netflow, and its descendent IPFIX, before we can agree on whether source port(s) can…

Thank you, Will. I suspect you're correct.
