Leverage the existing Hardware Health Overview view by adding it to the top of your Orion Summary Home page. It's a great way to see a graphic of those devices whose snmp is misconfigured or has failed--they'll be Gray/Undefined. This does not require NCM, by the way . . . Happiness! From the above view, you can click on…

In my case, I'd look at this for an upgrade from 12.2 to 12.3. Change the versions and you've got what I'd do.

When I create a new Discussion, when I respond to a Blog, I get that option to change or delete my entry. But in this particular forum, no such option is available:

serena would you be so kind as to verify I now have the necessary hot fixes for NPM, NCM, NTA, IPAM, UDT, and VNQM? Yours, Rick Schroeder

My team doesn't use the "Unmanage" options very often, but we also do not manage servers. Just firewalls, switches, routers, and our Solarwinds pollers & databases, none of which are down long enough to warrant being temporarily unmanaged. But I envision a day where Change Management will include steps for unmanaging…

I first moved everything to 2016 while NPM was still at 12.1. The jump to 2016 included backing up the old data base and restoring it in SQL 2016 version, which automatically tied the NPM 12.1 servers / APE's to the database. Next I upgraded to 12.3 (which was challenging due to some of the items listed previously), all…

I'd love to see NAM updates get some lovin'!

I think you might be confusing my need with what's traditional and possible. I'm looking for a way to have NCM backup the ISE server's configuration, not the switch's configs after ISE has been applied. Automatic download of the ISE appliance's configurations, and then performing scheduled configuration change reports of…

In that case I recommend opening a new Solarwinds Support case to discover if this behavior is expected, or is something that can be corrected.

I don't know the reason. I suspect it's a pricing issue. We don't have SAM and DPA due to the cost, and also due to the SA's and DBA's relying on the free version of NAGIOS and their own best-of-breed tools specially built for their systems, which don't integrate into any enterprise single pane-of-glass. If licensing (and…

Agreed. Particularly when patching/upgrading/creating/changing APE's. Each time I patch / install / upgrade, the Config Wizard generates two windows for upgrades. That seems like a bug to me, but I run them each sequentially. The polling engine updates have the same issue.

That's exactly what I was waiting for in NPM 12.2. I participated in a UX session about this before 12.2 was released, and today I was confused by the conflicting reports about how to actually upgrade. Thank you for this reassuring news.

I tried it--the query was invalid (for my environment?).

Happily, after the 3.3.0 hotfix was applied, I'm getting useful UDT information from my switches (despite my environment being 100% snmp-v3). It's not going quickly, and I have to add snmp-user group settings for every VLAN in every switch, but I'm getting info.

Interesting. I don't think to create View LImitations except when offering Solarwinds access to other departments. In this case, are you using a Limitation to "not display" devices that aren't in the data center?
-
Ahhh (breathes a sigh of relief!). I KNEW SW would have the answer. And have it FAST! Good work, serena!

The SQL restores are not VM snapshots. Only the Solarwinds NPM Main Poller Instance and APE VMs are compatible with the VM snapshot instant backup and restore. But having them is a wonderful solution in the event of unexpected results due to an upgrade going sideways.

Thanks, Jiri. I have a case already open. The engineer did some good things, made a little progress, but the issues remain. Still waiting to hear back from him.

cobrien, I put some screen shots into the top of this thread, hopefully to show that NPM's Heat maps aren't showing ANY clients at all, while the AP's and Cisco Prime's Heat maps show clients in these areas. When I built my new NPM Heat Maps I used the option for adding a sample signal strength, using my laptop as a…

Check the settings for that particular resource. You may be logged in as "admin", but that account does not have rights allowed for editing the particular window. If it did, the window would show "Edit" in the upper right. If you're certain you've got the correct rights set up for that account, and are using that account…

You should try a telnet session to the problem device(s) while RDP'd into your Orion server, using the netadmin user and credentials manually. If they work, then it's possible you have a typo in the Orion credentials. If they don't work, it's possible the device could have an ACL applied that prevents telnet access from…

I don't, but I have access to DBA's who do. I look forward to the reworked query!

I don't know that was uninstalled. My process never installed it on the new servers--only building new 2016 servers and having them take over the 2012 servers' names and IP addresses, and then pointing them at the migrated database. However, if the Connector tool is something that would be automatically installed when…

jpetkevich This was a slightly more complex install. It included: * Building all new 2016 platforms for the 7 pollers * Building a new 2016 SQL environment * Copying the old SQL Orion database into the 2016 SQL * Parking the licenses and copying them * Shutting down all the old SolarWinds pollers * Moving their names and…

I use this exact method of discovering where things have fallen through the cracks. Often I find that team members may add devices to the network, and add them to NPM, but not add them in with snmp settings, and not add them into NCM. My front page of NPM shows all Undefined devices NPM is aware of, and that's an easy list…

I feel your solution of scripting a method of breaking the ACL isn't a best practice. My team's preferred method is to correctly write the ACL to allow Orion to do its job, and to not give Orion RW permission via snmp at all.
-
Perfect. All you should need do is completely uninstall the beta (preferably re-image the server from the ground up) and reinstall the APE as outlined above, and things should start working again.

I have that same issue with NCM and a few Machine Types. In some cases I've been able to edit the Comparison Criteria and get better reporting and alerts. You can manage that here: You might also consider having different config comparison jobs--one that only compares the Running-config files, another for only the…
