Naturally! It's obvious that becoming an MVP has aged me 14 years. Isn't it? This guy was just a regular Network Admin on the left. On the right he'd become an MVP.

To the basic question: "What defines me?" The folks above have done a good job describing their history and training and roles. My story is similar. What I'll offer, that's different from the preceding responses, that defines "me": 1. I enjoy working with technology. I'm one of those who likes buttons & bells. I'm one who…

I'm liking the concept of WalMart drive-in theater. Probably runs on radio, not 802.11, not BlueTooth? Certainly not on the old wired speakers, right? And of course there'll be concessions in the parking lot. Maybe porta-potties? And perhaps twenty minutes of WalMart on-screen advertisements for every minute of movie…

It's a highlight of my day, being able to have a little something to look forward to like this. Plus, it's a little bit like playing the lottery--there's always a chance of getting some nice feedback, whether in Liked comments or an actual prize at the end of the contest. As a result of the gamification of Thwack, I'm in…

So Facebook is saying "It's OK to make false statements if they're political in nature, but it's NOT ok if the statements don't have anything to do with politics"? FB is SO weird. And wrong. It's never OK to tell lies in politics, no matter how common it may be.

I'm like you; I don't drink coffee. And (hopefully) like the rest of the world, I'd like to think SW is "green-aware".

A "Must-have!"

If you think this is the only company, or only smart phone application, that is doing this kind of tracking, you have some learning to do.

Media & recent mass exposure of a character appears to be what it takes to win each bracket. Although I'd rather have Hermione by my side than Chewie or Pinky or Dr. Watson, I suspect Chewie's massive media exposure / appeal will win over all.

I completely trust my company to do the right thing for patients (our customers) because there really is an attitude and spirit of caring here.

This isn't a tool for home use--unless your home has hundreds or thousands of patch cables to sort through just to find which switch and switch port your device plugs into. But for corporate network rooms with two or three thousand patch panel ports, and several hundred patched switch ports, it's the cat's meow!

This is "conditionally" a good Feature Request, in my humble opinion, from the point of view of automatically adding all NPM nodes to NCM. That's a labor saver and a no-brainer. But it's not a "perfect" Feature Request because some of my nodes (particularly Meraki VPN/firewall devices, but also Cisco ACI hardware, and…

When Nantucket seems such a popular place for rhymers, it's time to conjure the muse for more variety: A Nantucket router was sending Great packets of Jumbos unending. What Netflow displayed Revealed that its RAID Had utilization ascending Correcting Nantucket derisions All sourced from some terrible visions Of WAN pipes…

"Reliably?" I'm impressed!

When poor passwords are used, it brings some thoughts to my mind: * "Users who rely on this poor practice deserve the problems they'll get." But this is so harsh, so unforgiving, I don't even feel comfortable sharing it. Shouldn't systems be smart enough to force good passwords on users? * "Let's find ways to force people…

Sadly, and although less efficient, I watched the video and saw them call out the specific answer that is marked correct in today's question. But you have a great point. Every resource referenced or found through the Hint page should be consistent.

I like your example. There are similar services/products available, for different price structures. For example, last year my employer purchased an annual Stormwinds unlimited training licenses for everyone on my team. When we browse the course offerings we can select any class at any time, receive hard copy manuals in…

HTML5, always. No Java, no Flash.

You nailed that right on target, Richard. I've had to take classes in Cost Accounting For Engineers for my degree, and I remain dismayed at the games people play with figures to "legally" make a sow's ear appear to be a silk purse.

My son's been working at the LHC for last couple of summers during his journey towards a Ph.D in Theoretical Particle Physics. I asked him why he likes the "theoretical" part better then the "applied" or "mechanical" areas of Particle Physics, and it seems it's guys like him that are (in part) responsible for it taking a…

Somebody already beat you to that, made me MVP back in 2014 or 15, but thank you for the kind thought!

The linked article sums up nicely from its initial content: "A fender-bender at a stop sign is 'an accident.' The incorrect use of personal devices, or the inadvertent corruption of mission critical information can turn out to be more than simple accidents . . . they can escalate into threats that can result in national…

Our ISE automatically configures ACLs on access switch ports based on characteristics of the devices plugging into those ports. Our ACI defines allowed & denied flows through our data center infrastructure similarly. Both of these "bits" of automation limit exposure and (apparently) improve security--whether they improve…

I'm not quite as seasoned as a few of the folks in Thwack, but I'm no spring chicken, either. If you really want to see my age, this was my first computer: I had to master this before being allowed to use the time-shared-university-computer-over-modem. I thought I'd died & gone to heaven when our teletype's modem was…

Looking at the title again, I'll go out on a little limb and say that I know more about what's going on with the network and the servers than some SysAdmins know about their servers and apps. It's because I'm using Solarwinds while they stay in their silo with the freeware version of Nagios. SW rocks!

I know all sorts of people who'd be interested. $19 wouldn't cover a book on the topic, much less the content listed above.

jreves, here's something I offered for Thwack members' enjoyment in 2015. It references NTA; I'll offer it again for those who aren't ready to dig through the archives to see my tribute to Donna Summer, "Thwack Style". The inspiration for this was an unannounced Friday night Thwack maintenance period that I ran into when…
