When the Dutch confirmed Microsoft was violating GDPR rules in Office, and collecting personal information from people who are not Microsoft employees, I wasn't surprised. Yes, I'm pretty negative about Microsoft. I've lost too many hours of productivity troubleshooting & correcting their products at work and at home. But…

I agree with jgherbert on all his points. Although deploying an AP is secure via CAPWAP tunneling, and it's convenient because it can use any DHCP address, it's not ZTD. We still have to set it up and configure it for our network, join it to the controllers, etc. before deploying it to the customer. It's sole advantage is…

After reviewing all the Thwack handles, new and old, I like "zennifer" best. Simple, creative--Jennifer has the Network Zen. It brings to mind competence and simplicity, exotic remoteness with an appreciation for the Earth. Plus I think it's just cool to say it. Nicely done!

Bump. Vote it up, folks!

I've gotten that exact error, too, after installation.

This has three levels of appreciation:

I recovered "some" of the NCM command line logging functionality for those of my devices that support TACACS. That full AAA solution really shows show did what, and when--and keep unauthorized folks/commands from taking place. Now, if only EVERYTHING fully supported TACACS . . .

Seriously, you SCORED on this week's topics! Timely and appropriate, on-topic and thought-provoking. Thanks for sharing these with us. If this community isn't aware of each of these topics, they OUGHT to be. CSV Injection: This type of hack/intrusion has been around for over ten years. Folks who weren't aware of SQL…

Another example of how becoming specialized means you end up knowing more and more about less and less--until you know absolutely everything about nothing at all!

Wow, we are a DEEP group, Leon. My wife (a Business Manager, CIO, QA Manager, Programmer/Analyst, and Project Manager Extraordinaire) is continually amazed at the amount of soul revealed in Thwack. Maybe it's good for your heart and mind and soul to tell some of your problems to strangers. And moving that to a lighter…

If I had one wish to receive in this realm, it would be to have vendors design products to have upgradable embedded OS kernel capabilities. When we purchase a medical monitor for our health care system, the vendor often only sells it with an embedded OS in the kernel. It's rigid, supposedly hardened and more secure. And…

Thank you, Leon. You and your peers exist in the figurative I.T. stratosphere, and (I can't stop myself from saying it) I look up to you. Keep up the great work and travels and story-telling! Rick

Remove all Social Media access? Not a bad idea at all! On the other hand, approaching it intelligently can reap rewards. I regularly contribute to social media (like Thwack), and I reap the rewards of making new friends and saving a lot of money on purchases. The trick is avoiding the useless advertising while selecting…

@"petergwilson" You're my Hero!

Absolutely! There is a process in place where HR or Managers work with each other to keep track of employees, their necessary or revoked network privileges, etc. Both of them coordinate with Security to add or remove employees or change access rights. As we move towards implementing our newly installed ACI, those rights…

The Department Of Homeland Security is insecure? Of COURSE it is! Knee jerk reactions aren't always the best ones, and DHS is a great example. I like to think of many things in this line: * The percentages of folks who represent risks, and who are actually deterred or caught by DHS * The many instances of…

Oh, I'm DEFINITELY certain SolarWinds would benefit by sending me to this one. I'm one of your best fans and promoters, fighting the good fight since 2004!

Here in rural northern Minnesota, carrier diversity is a luxury that's often unavailable. Our hospitals may have only one last-mile provider option, and diverse carriers that may wish to supply that last-mile-provider often run their cables in the same trenches, or even in the same fiber bundle. Our ISP is very…

That's fair. What might the loss of Net Neutrality mean to you, your family, or your employer?

Grail quote appreciated. ;^)

Another reason to not trust the cloud.

Definitely isolation. I read, some years ago, that N.K. has only two or three Internet pipes into their country. It allows them strict censorship capabilities, and lets them cut the inbound cyber attacks anytime they choose. The U.S., on the other hand, seems quite vulnerable, with a great many avenues of intrusion.

"Chipping" employees, or using any "equivalent" solution for monitoring people, has always been a concern. The perception of using a chip as a more effective and less expensive way of monitoring a person might, or might not, be valid. As toddlers our parents monitored us physically, having learned that a quiet toddler may…

Developers simply need to key their eyes on the target--a better experience for everyone. Not just for end users, but for those who administer and manage the environment, too. I have long been a fan of a powerful, intuitive, full-featured GUI for individually managing devices and systems. And also a fan of CLI scripting to…

I like Volvo's idea of limiting top speed, and I wish it could be made mandatory for all cars everywhere--at a lower top speed. Perhaps we'd see many fewer accidents. Perhaps we'd learn to plan better. Perhaps we'd learn to accept the results of our poor planning by being late instead of being involved in accidents. I'd…

I think this would be an impressive option to add. But to drive the impact home, how about taking some space and defining the exact steps you have to duplicate to build the new widget. Then everyone not only learns how to do it, but can see how much work this good idea would save.
