Yep. Voted up on that one. Still looking for it to come to my organization.

"Bacon donors". Ha! Nice one. You made me smile.

Mind-expanding, as always. Thank you for these weekly submissions!

It seems everyone who answered the easy one (with only one answer) is required to retake that question & select from the same group of four options as you.

Measuring Performance. It can change with your goals as you age, and as your work and home environments change. What you want, need, or receive depends on too many factors to nail it down tightly. Maybe you need to stay local to take care of infirm parents. Maybe you don't do well in heat, cold, pollen, humidity, or dry…

Someone was thinking one brand, but wrote Hint 4 for a different one, eh? I can play that game--and win!

Did anyone happen to view the Q & A section about the Grand Prize, the Death Star Lego Kit? This is almost better than the actual toy!

If we thought about what's assumed-OK-but-is-actually-wrong with the statements above, we might come up with a stirring list of negatives. * "Automating compliance with patching and configuration tools means IT professionals can locate and help protect against vulnerabilities as efficiently as possible." What wrong with…

I confess my ignorance on both topics--I'm only one who enjoys a nice Science Fiction / Space Opera story (no B.E.M.s attacking incompetent females in distress, please, and limit the "hard science" in favor of comprehension and plot/character development. For current works, check out Michael Anderle's Kurtherian series in…

"Depleted Monday mini-bumpette" made me laugh out loud & smile--thanks for that!

I remember the earliest 802.11b deployments by the military in Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. They were (reportedly) deployed without security. I suppose they figured the other side wasn't so savvy as to be able to detect or leverage that technology. However, it was quickly compromised, and opposing soldiers could view the…

BCM is going to be an increasing issue, given how poorly O365 and Outlook work for us in the cloud.

Flying Spiders were COOL back when I first read Charlotte's web in the 1960's. And they remain cool today. On the other hand, I stopped sleeping with my mouth open (as best as possible) once I learned about clumsy spiders on the ceiling . . .

Until your request is realized in a new version of NCM Jobs, I can offer an idea to provide a work around: Name your Jobs by the category of folders you'd create. Use that name as the first word in the Job Name, and you've automatically put your Jobs in an alphabetical listing that keeps similar jobs adjacent to each…

I particularly enjoyed two phrases: "Interrupt-driven networking" and "Gray-Failure". The more Network Analysts are driven away from simple L1-L3 troubleshooting, the more we run into these kinds of things. I feel handicapped by the silos built that isolate our SW products from managing/monitoring Apps & Systems, and which…

Before putting the network in place, someone came up with a design for bicycle intersections that doesn't need that kind of high tech: Spectacular New Floating Cycle Roundabout | BICYCLE DUTCH But if you're lucky enough to bicycle in the Netherlands, traffic green lights optimize themselves for both cars AND for bicycles.…

Kangaroos Thwarting Self-Driving Cars? I didn't expect Volvo's Large-Animal-Detection algorithm required animals to move smoothly, and that it could be defeated by "hopping behaviors". It seems like it "should be" an easy fix. What else will fall through that detection crack? Alligators or crocodiles that are low and slow…

Canada's Public Broadcast network leveraged those characters from Mars Attacks in one of the early CGI cartoon series called "Reboot!" If you were into it, it's Season III, and the episode (#28, 3_05) is called "Icons". It was broadcast to the U.K. August 14, 1997. Looking at the graphics now, it seems primitive. But at…

This was a fun thread to read, and I'm not ashamed to say some of my content had been moderated/delayed for review. I think I've discovered the common words or phrases I've used that have triggered moderating in the past, and adjusted my style to omit them. Thanks for all the work you've done! It makes my day better when I…

You're probably not being paranoid enough. Amazon’s Alexa started ordering people dollhouses after hearing its name on TV - The Verge When someone can stand outside a stranger's IoT home and shout "Alexa, buy me that thing on Amazon!" or "Alexa, open the garage door!", you've gotta put on your security hat.

It's not exactly what you asked for, but you CAN perform all those one-off management option changes if you Manage Nodes, select all the nodes that need the same options checked, and edit them in bulk. It's not perfect, but it's better than having to do a dozen (or a thousand) nodes individually/manually.

Sadly, you're correct. But in twenty years, or after one's passed on to fertilizer, who actually cares about all the swag & lanyards collected? I'm entering that stage of life where downsizing is more important than collecting, where simplicity is superior to showing trophies, and I realize each of us is at a different…

All lower case worked fine here for me this morning. There are several potential answers, but the one I selected fit the hint perfectly, even though it was't the answer I expected. It is not capitalized in any way in the actual hint page.

Similarly I trained in the late 70's / early 80's with oscilloscopes pointing at MOSFET IC's and using 8080's and 8080A's to build fun circuit boards. I've never used an oscilloscope since I graduated back in '81, but I never regretted the training and interesting experiences. The personal enjoyment and heightened geek…

I'd trade 'em in a heartbeat if Sidewinders had Cisco hooks. The bang for your buck in a Sidewinder is enormous compared to all the add-ons that ASA's require to do the same job. But the Sidewinders are too secure for all the products that Cisco wants to tie into their ASA's, so I'm moving away from Sidewinders towards…

There's much to recommend starting a brand new organization with Network folks who are fluent with the state of the art, and with budget to accomplish a commercial network that's secure and well monitored. Back in reality, growing from older networks built with insufficient understanding or implementation of security…

Anyone can help reduce the strain on hospitals during the surge of new U.S. cases of COVID-19 by donating, or making-and-contributing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), to hospitals. My health care system offers these instructions for building medical face masks for donation:…

I completely trust my son because I've watched him walk the walk as he talks the talk. I've seen him look temptation in the eye and turn his back on it, every time. I've watched him do the right thing when another path would be easier.

By the way, if you haven't seen the Norse Attack Map, it's worth a view. Then consider the propriety of China blocking outbound requests for information versus sending malicious attacks against the countries who provide uncensored access to information. http://map.norsecorp.com/ Don't get me wrong--I'm not claiming the…
