I suspect using the rolled up newspaper routine would result in a dramatic increase in attacks. Attacks may only decrease when an unlikely set of conditions is implemented: * Anonymity of attackers is eliminated--everyone knows who you are and where you are when you attack them. Everyone knows the authors of viruses and…

Programming and Developing apps without "security first" is only how these folks were trained, and how they are allowed to behave. This capture says a lot: But this capture adds insult to injury: Maybe the worst is this quote: " . . . 17 of the 43 developers copied their code from internet sites, suggesting that the…

Yep, VM has turned out to be just another application/server/service/resource-consuming-piece-of-technology. If you don't understand how to manage it--AND how to manage the users' requests for VM resources--it will become more of a hog, more of an anchor, and less of a streamlined state-of-the-art solution.

I didn't remember "Day 768K" was going to be a thing. Thank you for reminding us.

I'm pretty sure the first few seconds of this video covers the topic nicely: JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO ~ Brain Cloud - YouTube

You know, I'd just watched John Carter of Mars and REALLY enjoyed it not that long before Cowboys Vs. Aliens came out. It was a nice buffer to see before C.v.A, but . . . Well, to quote Captain Barbossa speaking to Sao Feng in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End "It would strain credulity, at that."

It seems as if blockchain technology is treated like a magic bullet that's new and wonderful and good, for no other reason than it's new. I suggest that if government entities who plan to rely on it do NOT understand it inside and out, they NOT move forward with it. There's a reason why organized crime relies on it for…

Life long learning remains important to support. Better results come for many by employers providing professional off-site training for them. But business density, city size, and competing infrastructure companies are also important to successful cloud experiences. When there are few-to-one WAN providers or ISPs for rural…

What's that you say? Cryptocurrencies are a risky business? That we shouldn't invest in them? Well, we knew that.

The BoFH provided much mirth in the 90's and early 2000's. He should've had his own TV show instead of simply turning his blogs into books.

Always be automating? Of course!

Sigh. We can't know what we aren't told, what we don't learn about. It's an unhappiness to keep believing everything is rigged, our rights and private information and privacy are continually eroded. What other monitoring of vehicles is happening that you're not being told about? By definition, we can't know that. So, worry…

Relying on Boeing, or any other industry giant, to act with altruism and good will is not a sign of a rational mind. All must wear their skeptical hat when it comes to profits and large organizations pulling the wool over others' eyes. Highly-paid lobbyists and kickbacks to politicians and others is the norm, not the…

Thanks for your fast and excellent service! Green Record preserved for the next question . . .

Maybe . . . If staring into the distance while programming enhances one's mental health, the way it does for me while fishing. As long as that programmer's stare doesn't end up like a Google Images search for "thousand yard stare wwii".

The story about anti-Net Neutrality comments possibly being mostly untrue is hopeful. Not that I'm for companies lying or stealing ID's and generating false votes. I'm simply for the truth, and will accept it when it's revealed. The apparent ease by which unscrupulous companies or individuals generate fake anti-Net…

This is good info--I only wish I could leverage it. The silos in my organization keep my Network team out of servers, out of data bases, out of VM management, and out of SAN. 8^( Well, it's been quite a few months since this thread started. Are you interested in sharing the highlights and low points of the results of the…

I agree with your assessment of WWW 3.0. When the vast majority of the web is used to spread access to socially unacceptable things, it's really a disappointment. So much for the bright new world.

A man in Vancouver reportedly posted this sign (below) in reaction to the new trespassers playing the game. While I'm trying not to be Mr. Wilson (from Dennis The Menace), I sympathize with his desire for quiet and calm. And I appreciate his humor in listing ridiculous things that have been put in second place by this even…

Have you used NTA, pointing at the routing interface / SVI for each VLAN? You may find useful data there, even if it's not what you'd like within NPM.

Almost as bad, Question 19 doesn't make sense as a sentence. One can almost guess what it's supposed to say, but not with 100% certainty.

While you're centralizing the data, make sure it's indexed and searchable, and that all parties are aware of all policies and procedures documented there. Provide complete training for Help Desk staff, including both the technical items for which they'll be called, and also the great personality tips and tricks they'll…

When I saw in the news that Apple slowing down older iPhones' Internet speeds, I just shook my head. "Another reason to avoid the company" was my first reaction. I remembered a scene from Pirates Of the Caribbean, At World's End, where the villain explains his decisions were "just good business". Its Just Good Business -…

Like rhether, O365 is replacing Exchange for us. Previously, we upgraded Exchange versions at the last minute, when the previous version became problematic or particularly insecure.
-
I'm happily anticipating NPM 12.2 and its associated suite of upgraded modules coming here this fall. That should improve APM in my shop!
-
What? No references or graphics or links to NPM's QoE, or SAM, or WPM? Next time go the extra mile and show the screen shots of the SW products that can fill this need. Actually, it's not too late to add them into the article . . . hint, hint?

On a two-week working/camping trip with my wife this summer, we'd sometimes travel into regions where she had no signal for her cell phone while driving. O, the Frustration for her! (None for me--I was driving.) But after continually trying to discover signal after 20 or 30 minutes, she'd give up. This would be followed by…

Heaven help us all! ;^) I used to supervise high school kids going through Cisco Academy. The courses supposedly taught ethics and moral behavior, but I invariably caught kids trying to scan & break into my switches & routers. How old's your boy?

My organization has had a Network Service SLA for internal clients/customers for at least the last twelve years that I've been here. Maybe this is more the norm in a 7x24 health care environment than in other businesses? They may have "off hours" during which maintenance can be performed? Or may be unable or unwilling to…
