Anything in Minnesota would sure be attractive for me & my peers to attend!

I'm intrigued by the DOD and the cloud. I don't know if it's truly a good match, or maybe it's only a giant honey pot for the rest of the world to try & infiltrate, while our DOD keeps their valuables isolated. The cloud certainly seems like an easily attacked environment from anywhere at anytime.

That's good news. If you kept the SWQL script and process, would you mind posting it here (scrubbed/sanitized) so other Thwackster can learn from it?

I like the idea that automation can reduce errors through ensuring standardization.
-
Yes, I read about that. We can't keep people from behaving inappropriately (apparently). You can lead a child to knowledge, but you cannot make it think.

My family is a walking advertisement for SolarWinds, with all the T-Shirts I've received. It's fun stuff--thank you, DanielleH, for your diligent work!

I agree with your thought that this could be a useful Feature Request. But UDT is for User Device Tracking, not inventorying, so UDT may not be the best place for the request. Instead, could you consider using NPM for this instead of UDT? NPM monitors the status all interfaces. You might already have the functionality you…

I certainly can see a need for this in some organizations. Frankly, in mine we rely on NPM to tell us where to concentrate our efforts to get the biggest bang for our time. But now that VM is a major player in our organization, and our pollers and NPM are all in VM, I see less need for the FOE here. If this were a major…

How much of this still applies today, in 2015? A LOT! But which items have gone the way of the Dodo, and what new steps should be applied? How about changes in terminology? Are old names still there, or are they known under different descriptions now?

I agree, learning the correct answer immediately is rewarding. However, at the end of each mission, the answers to all the questions will be posted where you can look them up.

I think the wings are being brought in through the hangar door via forklift in this picture, aren't they? Further down the article is a picture / video link showing its wings and 12 engines:

Just in case anyone doesn't have Valentine's Day bacon ideas . . . It's never too early to plan!

Don't give us up--don't let us down!

The concept of "Real Time Error Detection/Telemetry" also makes me shudder at the thought of infinite incessant pager alerts and e-mails and Help Desk calls in real time . . . Prevention is definitely better than the pound of cure.

I bet you'd at least earn fictional adatole points for sending in a picture of yourself wearing a SW Lab coat. I should cover that middle area better than plumbers' shirts that can't say "No" to you-know-what.

Reading and participating in Thwack is my primary break during the work day. Your points on community are spot on. Spending face time with peers in my department AND with folks in other siloed areas results in a mental refresh for me. Plus, I learn more about what's going on in other areas that I may not have known about.…

The folks in our IS Security department tell me they already knew all about this, and leverage it on a daily basis. My thought: "Wouldn't it have been nice if the rest of us knew about this, and had some training so we can help be part of the solution, too?"

Short & sweet. K.I.S.S.

Once I handled a Help Desk call dealing with one of our primary server subnets. One of the SysAdmins noted their server didn't have an address, so I took a look at the scope. There was no scope. Someone had deleted an entire Class C of server addresses, Reserved, Fixed, and a few test boxes' leases. That's when I learned…

One of the worst things about cabling run below raised data center floors is the fact that rarely are the floor tiles lifted for inspections to be performed that ensure proper (tidy) cabling is performed. That, and zinc whiskers. Those little buggers costs us beaucoup $$ until we understood and remediated them.

I'm unhappy with the map referenced on 9/27. It shows red lines between nodes. In my mind, red = down, not red = less-than-wonderful-latency. I'd prefer to see communications and links showing green if good, yellow if there's something less-than-ideal, and red when communications have failed. I realize the links show that…

You did a good job putting 2 and 2 together, ebradford. I have that spotlight on my wish list because I'm not comfortable going out after dark without one--so I don't go out after dark. I've been out three times in the deep dark of night--always on 4th of July, always in the Duluth, MN harbor to enjoy the fireworks show.…

I HOPE there's no such Cisco certification . . . but I confess that I wouldn't be surprised if there is.

My organization recently announced the pending construction of a new $100M hospital in my town--a huge deal that will provide a lot of work for tradespeople and will impact my network dramatically. At the same time, Amazon announced they'll be building their new HQ2 for $5 Billion. Then I imagined FIFTY new hospitals the…

And don't forget Hedy Lamarr's contributions to radio and computing. No one could believe a woman who was talented and beautiful enough to be a movie star could also be a world class scientist. ATT and "5G". I'm no expert in that realm of technology, buy my skeptical hat suggested it was smoke & mirrors from the first instant I heard about it. And now there's proof. One hates to rely on one's skeptical hat, but apparently one can bet on greed to win.

I love it. All good ideas. May I also add "Don't be a Cowboy Network Analyst (reference Star Trek's "Cowboy Diplomacy") by making changes that are not reviewed, not approved, not notified to the affected sites/clients/customers, and not within a maintenance window approved by the team/company/customer(s).

Locks on bridges? I know there's an old trend of putting a lock on a piece of public infrastructure, often near or over water, indicating one's heart is locked to another for being in love. Combinations are discarded, keys tossed in the water, to show one's love will never be broken. In a few cases the locks have become so…
