Are you a VMAN customer or using IVIM to monitor these devices? When a VM reports down, are you able to ping it from the polling server? What does the Event log read - just that they're down and back up? The fact that your physical vCenter box is dropping off as well is a puzzler. Is there any possibility there's a true if…

Thank you, folks! I appreciate the feedback.

I think the best way to accomplish this (that is, the metrics you mentioned in the same view) would be via Perfstack. I do agree it's difficult to mix and match content types across legacy views.

Yes.....on-demand is working well! Thank you.

Solarwinds.com - never. Customer portal - downloads, etc. thwack - daily. I try to help if someone's having a problem with which I'm familiar, I ask for help if I need it, feature requests, and general complaining as well.

Well, big ups to James Fahey from Solarwinds Support! He - very nicely and diplomatically - showed me why my script config was bogus, and gave me a quick fix. Hint - just because you use 'logout' when you're manually on a session doesn't mean you should use it with NCM! The old dude learns another elementary lesson.....so…

Here's a fun addition - I found the program that was using syslog port, shut it down. Verified with netstat -ano that nothing was listening on 514 either on localhost or network address. Syslog STILL fails with the 'port is already open' message.
-
Has there been any movement on this from the Solarwinds side? Barring an actual fix, it would be very useful to at least have mitigations we can leverage in the meantime on the appliance.
-
What is the bandwidth of the link? If the backup data is saturating the connection, perhaps ICMP and polling are not successful because of this saturation. When Solarwinds reports that the router is down, can you ping the router successfully and consistently from your workstation? Is there QOS on this link to prioritize…

I don't know about the same network, but I do recall the FSDB box and the NPM box need to be in the same timezone.

Build a new group. Have this group consist of the services for each server that you want to monitor. In the advanced settings of the group (found by expanding at the plus sign next to Advanced on the first screen you see when building a new group), choose 'show worst status' in the dropdown next to 'Status Rollup Mode'.…

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm still battling with some of our Fortinet configs as well.

Supercool, Radioteacher.....it's a lovely workplace when colleagues gift you customized swag! Enjoy your new kicks!
-
Matt, did you ever receive any info on this one?

This is what I remember, but others may have more cogent responses. RAID 5's cheaper drivewise, but that's about it. RAID 10's faster during rebuilds, faster writes, etc. If you can afford the drives, I'd go 10. Just my 2c, though!

You're going to get a lot of contrasting answers to this question, I would imagine - and I think that's because there are different answers based on need. For example, say you're mostly monitoring (or concerned with) WAN or Internet utilization at your remote locations. In this case, you might be looking for who's using…

Who is it? I'm in the mood for some light shaming.

Can you try to change the maximum datagram size to 1024 and see if the messages persist?

What are sure indicators that this application has failed? Do ports stop listening? Do processes/services stop or become unavailable? If you can define a system state that shows accurately 'the app is no longer functional', I'd worry less about data transfer and more about monitoring that system state.
-
This can vary greatly, depending on your goals for monitoring. If you want up/down alerting, you don't have to go the SAM route at all - you can monitor those states and a bunch of other good stuff just leveraging NPM? What are you interested in - beside basic availability and mem/cpu/disk - about the servers in question?
-
Have you looked in the Volumes table? That's where these types of disks bubble up in my environment.

I believe you could edit a vanilla 'All Nodes' report and use SQL statements in the 'edit resource' piece of the Report Builder to define only nodes that don't have a defined value for these custom properties (or if these custom properties are yes/no, then do it that way).
-
Any chance you entered a seed router as part of this discovery?

If your downstream tenants' /24s are isolated via physical or virtual interface, then you can use the 'Total Bytes Transferred by Interface - Last Month' baked-in report to get a fair estimate. However, you'll likely get better data if you leverage NTA (this assumes your gear is capable of sending Netflow/sFlow datagrams)…
-
Depends on the device and whether hardware details are reported, but yes - you can get model/serial/service tag from many devices. For example, here's info on the Node Details page of a Cisco router (in the Hardware Details widget): It's tricky to build a report around this data, however, because this resource is designed…

Done - I dig the direction you're going in here. Thanks.
