Probably.

Got it re trad silos....no, you're right on there. To your rephrased question - I'm not sure, but I think the probabilities are definitely getting slimmer. From a network perspective, however, someone who historically was siloed into net infrastructure/transport - and is inquisitive enough to learn the methodologies of SDN…

maria.bungau, thanks very much for clearing that up!

One would *hope* that it would be sourced from a standards organization - if only because there's no direct profit (at this point) for a third-party to exert the effort to remake the monitoring-protocol piece. Now, if that third-party built what you describe - something that will work on any open platform AS WELL AS…

Good topic, jgherbert! I use SNMP for monitoring and measuring performance of my routing and switching gear for one reason - I have no alternative. Is it an acceptable level of overhead? Yes, for a shop of our size (1000+ nodes). Can I see where it would get chunk-style if things got LARGE? Most definitely. Going back to…

Enlighten me - are there any cloud providers you've found that will supply all these points?
-
Nope, still sideways....

Just to show we're serious, I'll add in my never-used Thwackpack. Come on, man.....just send the code along, huh?

maria.bungau was answering questions in this thread @ 3:47am this morning. Impressive.

Perhaps the Pingdom property will replace WPM?

Doesn't sound so misspent to me!

Cisco IS too expensive for some shops and totally doable for others - I guess it's about the identified need. Of course, the 'soft' costs of a week of your time (which I'll bet ain't cheap) dealing with TACACS nonsense for a Fortinet are not appropriately factored into 'cost reduction' strategies by management! But yeah, I…

I'm surprised some people would love to be without wireless and/or mobile devices at their workplace. That seems boring. I understand that more secure/classified environments require this type of prohibitive policy and I understand why - it still sounds like a drag, though!
-
hahahahahahha!!! Good one.

Heck, I'll just jump on the 'today's answer isn't correct' bandwagon. I demand justice! I didn't even need to read the hint and I knew the answer....or so I thought.

Hi there - no, no problems today. Thanks for reaching out and I'll certainly let you know if it occurs again if you'd like.

As I said, we are occasionally called upon to leverage xFlow data - and our contextual knowledge of what it means - to bring information to the table. These are usually situations where we're examining recent historical events. I don't think anyone in this conversation thinks xFlow is realtime - I certainly don't, and…

Very cool.....and I'll wager somehow involved with DPI availability in NPM! Nice work.
-
No problem at all - I appreciate the reply and thank you for the support.

Agreed. None of this is a huge deal, but sometimes I think the missions should consist of questions that are either 100% softballs or 100% 'you have to read the whole thing and figure something out'. The seeming inconsistency is a small annoyance.

The whole ticket text is just a goldmine....

mesverrum - what's stopping you? We can all retire anytime we want!

Dang, wish I could make Vegas...here's hoping I'll catch y'all next year @ VMworld.

"I'll take '70s Dance Crazes for 800, Alex." "This athletic, partner-optional dance craze took America by storm in 1975". *BZZZZZZZt* "What is.....THE BUMP?"

Just curious - I've noticed that I can no longer stay signed in between visits. Is this part of the mitigation strategy? And.....moderated.
-
Very, very cool.

Sounds like Statseeker and AKIPS?

Welcome, Brett! I don't have many gripes with THWACK as it exists today...you may receive some contrasting replies from others, however. :-) If you watch daily ops for a month or so, I'm sure areas for deeper inspection/improvement will show themselves. Overall, if you continue to provide incentives for participation in…

This could be great - I look forward to it!

I think there are several. The pending class-action suit against Toyota and GM made the news not too long ago. It seems like there's this division during the development/prototyping piece of IoT efforts - lots of engineers, lots of software devs, (one would hope) lots of network/security people - but they don't seem to end…
