It is not just ESX that has this problem, it just happens to be my greatest concern. There are other Linux devices that have this same issue. Part 2. Are there any opportunities for Fiber-Channel and SAN monitoring?

Oh no, but thanks. "Orion NCM no longer uses the NCM Syslog Server and NCM Trap Server to process syslog and trap events from network devices. Instead, Orion NCM uses the SolarWinds Syslog Service and the SolarWinds Trap Service. As a result, to conform the operation of real-time change detection and notification to the…

The console no longer shows any volume for any windows server. Defined volumes do display properly for the servers through the web interface. Reminder: if a node is removed to be re-added later, all historical information on the original node is lost.
-
You can use autodiscovery and Orion will reconcile by system name and show you the multiple interfaces on the node view. In web console settings you should choose the interface node status rollup so you will see when one of the interface fails from high level views. would the recommended autodiscovery work if the server…

The settings for Config comparison are stored in server's NCM settings. Configs Config Comparison Display __ number of lines before and after each change. Our setting for Display is 3 which is currently being ignored by the printed reports. Also we lost the grey shaded printed output indicating where there are printed…

Case #240157 - "questions about web redirection" Recommendation to SW Development: 1. Since the intent is abandon the use of the server console to the web interface (Good idea) would be to include in the Orion Configuration Wizard a dialog box to the full-qualified domain name of the Orion NPM web site and optional port…

maybe someone at SolarWinds can tidy this up... This report filters on vendor = Cisco and Machine Type = 3750 Reports on: Node name card number (so you can see the # of devices in the stack IP Address Firmware Revision Software Revision Serial Number There is some extraneous information that I was using for testing. I…

Not available today, but this is on our roadmap for our next major version release. Chris, would that be a 5.x or 6 version? Thanks

If you are able to telnet/ssh to the firewall you may only need one ACS Setting change to get to level 15. In my version 6 and 7 families the following ACS changes were required. Access ACS Select the User Setting Button [List all Users] Select a test account or your account to validate these settings. Scroll 3/4 of the…

You may need to update your Report Schemas as follows: Open the Custom Property Editor tool Right click on a blank grey area of the Toolbar, and go to ‘Customize..’ Click the Commands tab Under the “Commands” section, scroll down and find the “Update Report Schemas” button. Drag this to your Toolbar and click on it. Let…

It is likely that your node list is sorting based on device icon. Try right-clicking in the tree list area and clicking "Select Fields and Grouping". Move Node Name so that it is first in Selected Properties list. Let me know how that works. Doesn't this only set it for the logged in user account? So if everyone in…

Sorry the data is not coming from traps, syslog, or snmp, but via SMTP (e-mail) as a formatted message. This is found commonly with help-desk applications receiving data from other sources.
-
I've used the Exclusion comparison criteria options for other configurations. This one does not want to exclude.
-
I appreciate that input. Being a humble engineer that is relying "on NPM for enterprise-class fault & performance management" and not a programmer. I would not know how to go about getting that information. I generally try to rely on proven tools and applications to acquire that level of data. Not roll my own, some of…

Hi, I sent you an email off line about a potential improvement in this area. Responded offline as well. Thanks
-
Thanks must have missed that option.
-
NCM version 5 is capable of e-mailing reports in html. Earler versions did not support this. The option for file output is html. There are no replacable parameters if you want to date each file. There are no options for exporting any reports as a pdf.

Problem Update: TT (development case) has been opened and sent to the development team for review. I have no idea what "TT" stands for. It was in the e-mail body.

I agree that the process is a manual data entry mechanism, it probably will always be. I would like to learn if the process has been implemented by someone already and if so how to go about it. If our community has a strong desire to see this as an enhancement maybe SW may wish to undertake it before every interested…

Please go to d:\InetPub\SolarWinds\Orion\APM\Admin folder and check if there are following files: * ApplicationTemplates-Old.aspx * ApplicationTemplates-Old.aspx.cs If yes delete them and try reloading Edit application page. I renamed the two above files, reloaded the web pages and was able to access the device page.…

Please go to d:\InetPub\SolarWinds\Orion\APM\Admin folder and check if there are following files: * ApplicationTemplates-Old.aspx * ApplicationTemplates-Old.aspx.cs If yes delete them and try reloading Edit application page. If this does not help, you can try modification of EditApplication.aspx &…

Have you open a case (or several) about this? Does this happen when you do something on APM since you upgraded NPM to 10.2.1? Will ping people internally and post back what I found. Yes I have, except the tech is more interested in determining our SQL server practices then on determining the error source. Honestly, we went…

Maybe I am getting complex. How can I stop OK EVENTS being reported by "Hardware Health of Servers"? Did someone really put in a change request to forward all positive and negative hardware events to the display log?
-
I'm glad that there is some work in progress for the hardware health summary, because the amount of positives events on a server re-loads is somewhat interruptive for ops to wade through. The Alert Triggers are fine, they only appear when there is an issue-Great. Only one comment there. The hardware component is noted on…

If you have Dell's OpenManage installed on the server you can acquire certain hardware info (i.e. memory, fan, power and temperature status). Yes, Open Manage has been installed and the information is accessable through each servers OpenManage interface. What I would like is to be able to historically track and report that…

Thanks for the heads up, I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the feedback. I believe SW failed in an IT axiom, "how can we fail back" on this installation and upgrade. After 3 weeks with the integrated products we still are scratching our heads. A three hour internal discussion with admins and operations resulted in several unhappy departmental groups. good luck with your…

Pretty much the same issue and request.

Try using the Custom Property Editor to add a new dummy custom property, then remove it. Sometimes that "resets" the report schema files and causes the existing custom properties to show up again. Thank Tim, that worked!
-
That's a correct assumption. The device is reported as 'no changes'. I'd like the option to eliminate the devices that have not changed. I could be wrong but it is a "Config Change Report". If this can be done, then the report can go directly to QA or Operations for them to file the daily report. Now the network team is…
