Are you seeing errors on the Router port as well? Both Router & switched port are configured on the same speed & duplex? Like mentioned, you can change port on the switch, but as well on the router. I had the exact same symptoms. SNMP Location & contacts were not written to the DB, and the NPM Server was able to connect through snmp to the windows machine. After a clean-up in the monitored interfaces, the SNMP Location & contact was polled, and everything came back ok! Weird!

Are you monitoring using the iLOM or directly on the "OS side"? The iLOM, once configured properly, should provide a lot more information, and give you to more detail hardware information...

If this is something you would use frequently, you could have a script that would copy the SN to an unused field (ie: Comments, City or Department). Then search this field using NPM web interface.

I agree with jmiddleton & jeffnorton. The licensing is nonsense for tools that should already be incorporated in a solution like the Orion Core...
