The app_offline.htm should be a straight forward page. Unless you are changing the server URL, there is no code that should change. You just have to place it in the C:\inetpub\SolarWinds\ when needed, and take it off (or rename it) when done...

If you want a better looking Maintenance page, you can edit c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\Orion\OrionMinReqs.master, remove all javascript code, rename it App_offline.htm and edit the page so it displays the message that you are looking for. This page will then have your logo and follow the CSS of your site

If you send me the file I can try to modify it. Mine is already modified and has a custom logo and everything. That would take me longer to fix it...

Will that work on CS1000 systems?
-
Have you tried on a 1700 with the latest (or at least recent) ios?

It worked on Cisco as this is polled directly in Solarwinds. That being said, I found here on thwack () the receipe to poll Juniper SN. You will have to create a UnDP to populate the data, and then, create a report based on that information. Since I don't have any Juniper gear anymore, I can't really do that and test it…

jhynds, regarding your comment about LM being priced separately you mention the following: "I hope that gives you some comfort that we're committed to including syslog and trap functionality within NPM." but from what I read, is that if we are going forward with upgrades without LM, I'll be stucked with a product that…

We use Solarwinds to aggregate traps & syslogs (Mostly traps) from private production sub networks. We filter some traps (Mostly the informational traps) and forward the remaining to our National NOC. The source IP of the trap identiify the network it came from to ensure proper treatment at the NOC. Also, we use forwarding…

Without at least the trap & syslogs forwarding, we cannot install this module. We have complex forwarding rules per additional poller that are critical to our organization. That being said, as an upgrade to something already in NPM, I dont understand why it's priced separately, and how to build a business case to buy a…

Don't forget to backup your database prior playing into it

It works for all my APE & AWS, but my primary server throws this error at me: ... and the troubleshooting steps article URL is not working...

cobrien, now that 12.0.1 is out and making us happy, can we have this list refreshed? There's stuff that can be checked off the list

A Q-in-Q setup could be used as a cheap way to extend your LAN and is supported by all major players IEEE 802.1ad - Wikipedia
-
Cannot agree more. Solarwinds is not complete without proper trap & syslog management. Telcos have to rely on different systems to complement it
-
cobrien: Any chance of adding in your Unmanage behavior improvements? Pretty please!

You can download a SQL express version from Microsoft website and configure it for your needs until you migrate to your full blown SQL server(s).
-
Can't wait to hear more about: * Faster and web based simplified product upgrades and installation of hot fixes * Integrated High Availability Engine Hopefully, for the first item, a sanity check will be in place in order that all pollers or aditional web servers are running the same binaries and same hotfixes...

What's next?

My pleasure! Glad it helped

Is there a newer version of this document? It is dated from 2008 and still talks about Cirrus... Would be great to get better examples from an updated document, using the same information that we find in NPM 10.4...

Since the upgrade to 10.7, all accents typed in are saved differently than prior the upgrade. It seems the UTF-8 Format is not respected The "é" represents an "é" that was typed in. French words and address contains a few accents that we have to preserve. Am I the only one having this issue?

Can't wait for the next "What we're working on"

For the sysadmins that do not like to code (me), here's another option: https://www.edge-cloud.net/2013/05/rancidtrac-on-ubuntu-12-04-lts/

If you can provide your Sharepoint site with access to your SolarWinds SQL database, you could extract that information straight from the SolarWinds tables via a SQL query and display that in a Sharepoint webpart . (ie: Display business data on a SharePoint site)

I think that's exactly what I was looking for I will test that next week I will then be able to make sure our Static DNS server is right all the time Thank you!

I hope that Network Sonar Discovery & Worldmaps will be reworked ... Pretty Pleaseeeeeeeee!

Have a look at www.slideshare.net, with a quick search, you'll be able to find many presentations. You wont be able to download most of them, but you can be inspired from those

IMO, this tool should be either provided NC to NPM Users, as a tool to support their evergrowing environment, or be bundled with other tools like Dameware, NTM or DNS Stuff (ie: DNS request & checks straight from that interface.) It should become a one stop shop for any engineer, not just another tool we have to beg our…

This seems to be fixed in 11.5RC... I was able to select which MIB I wanted the data to be interpreted upon, and voila!
