Nothing in Outlook changed for me either, but I suddenly stopped receiving 1 of a pair of reports. the strange thing was that one of the reports was getting through, the other wasn't. The Subject lines were very similar, and both had a PDF attachment. I'd recommend checking the System Manager on the Exchange server. Look…

Point 2 has the answer I wanted to hear :) Regarding point 1; in NTA (I am assuming this is the Orion version of NTA with the web interface) you will have added the node you are monitoring. Does the IP address assigned to that node match the IP address you are using as the Source (the 10.37.###.85 address)? The joys of…

No worries. Let us know how you get on, and don't forget to mark as "Answered" if it works Also, you may want to head to the Thwack web site at some point and edit your last post... Your email sig is attached giving us all sorts of contact details you may not want publishing!

And do they want that data per server, or as a single figure for all the servers combined?

I have successfully used NotePager in Saudi Arabia using a 3G dongle in the server, so I would expect it to work in the UK. Bear in mind that GSM is a global standard, so there should be no issues using it in any country that uses GSM (which the UK does).

We don't use any sort of virtualisation in our network, so I'm not 100% sure. But I'd assume that as long as each virtual device is seen as an individual node in SolarWinds and that the node's disks are being monitored, you should get the alerts for these virutal hosts. Hopefully someone with more experience on this side…

Could it be that your router guy has something in the config of the network devices that throttles the number of ICMP requests as a "security" thing? (e.g. to stop network sniffing with ping sweeps and port scanners)

I'd start by having a read of the Cisco support site on how to configure your device to send traps. Article is at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094a05.shtml After that it's a case of using the SNMP Trap manager on your SW server and configuring some alerts. The list of traps…

Happy to Sean's solution worked for me. However, not exactly the most obvious way to do this. Would be much nicer if the "List Resources" page available from the node in question had this same functionality!
-
D'oh! There is another thread on here where someone had the same issue which lists a couple of links; but the thread doesn't really reach a helpful conclusion: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/50810 Also, just noticed you're using a 10.4.1 eval version. Given 10.5 is now available, it might be worth trying the eval…

Not sure there is a way then. The Report Writer is a little light on NCM reporting capabilities, and there's no other obviously relevant options in the NCM job config. Looks like it's either a feature request, or you find a code-monkey to write something that can take a job log from NCM (use the Save Results To File option…

If you add, for example, the "Top XX Nodes by CPU Load" from "Top XX Lists" section you can click on the "Edit" button and change the number of devices it will show. Only problem with this approach is that there may be an upper limit to the number of devices you list. Is this any closer to what you're after?

I'm sure I had no icon for "Network Monitor" when I looked earlier! That program in my version is also lacking a port option. However, that software looks like it is a lot older than NPM. I wonder if it is still being developed, or if it just there for legacy use now. Perhaps michalB can confirm. Personally, I'd seriously…

Not sure I'm 100% with you. Have you been able to add a Custom Property at the Interface level? You just need to select the Interface button in the Custom Property Editor tool:

Looks like the download has vanished because of End of Life. You may need to reach out to SolarWinds support to see if they can provide you a link to the old version. I assume you have a valid maintenance agreement?
-
It isn't pretty, but you could use 2 jobs... The first one executes a command script which issues the 'copy running startup' command. The 2nd job executes a few minutes later to download the running configs - selecting the option to download only if it's changed if that's what you want. I'll also mention I'm still on NCM6,…
-
If you have a current maintenance agreement I would strongly advise upgrading to 10.4 as it is so much easier to achieve what you want. If you really can't upgrade for some reason this can become a lot more complex as you need to know what hardware manufacturer you're using, etc. since they all store the environmental…

Also, you can change the time of day that an alert is active, so if you have a set time they reboot at, change your alert to only be active outside this time. Of course, this works best if your reboots are just before or just after midnight. If it happens at, for example, 9pm you would need 2 alerts - 1 active from…

The OID I referenced is a table. It will contain many different sensors. I suspect the reason it is a table is because different devices will have different sensors. Therefore it will not explicitly mention specific sensors - instead you will probably see a name that tells you what the sensor is in one column of the table.…

I think adding points from something external to thwack is a manual process. You'll probably get them later on today once the SolarWinds guys arrive at work and wade through the list of people who've taken part. That was certainly the case with the current Monthly Mission. You'll probably also get a message from one of the…

If you complete the thing it does ask you a followup question where you can say which ones you think should have gone into more than 1 group so that may get around point 1. I just created a 2nd group which I called "Others" which I think only had 1 item it which I didn't feel fitted in elsewhere.

Thanks guys! Just a quick question on the terminology though... You're now referring to both Nodes and Components as licenced elements. Has the licencing model changed in APM 5 (and am I right in thinking APM is becoming SAM with this major version upgrade)? I'm not sure if I've missed an announcement somewhere; probably…

"Tasks" is another in the user area that has been "disabled by your administrator" - http://thwack.solarwinds.com/people/<username>/tasks

Hi Francois, My reason for suggesting both was that the email gives me a quick overview of the change, but the link in the email would take me to the whole config should I need to view that. But I guess of the 2, the email showing just the change in context should be sufficient.

Unfortunately, some of us are stuck with Telnet as our switches don't have images that support SSH :( But I do agree that it would be nice to have the option to change this; just don't leave those of us who do rely on old protocols out! :)
-
You also get similar happening with the NCM software. I think I had to exclude 4 processes in the end! (Although what actually ended up happening was they just decided to turn off the "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail" rule!)
-
Does the device support SNMP? If so, SolarWinds should be able to monitor it.
-
+1 for improved user auditing please. I have a system with more admins than I'd like, and also seen nodes go "Unmanaged". Although on doing some digging this may be due to those nodes being down for 7 days and so it was an automated SolarWinds change to Unmanaged. I wonder if this was the case for the OP as well?

I've uploaded a file to the Content Exchange which I hope will get you what you're looking for. You can find it at http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-167300 Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Or, as a second thought that just struck me... Create a custom SNMP Universal Poller and have a look at MSSQLSERVER-MIB:mssqlServer (OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.4.1) You might be able to get some useful stats from there, and you can write alerts and reports based on its findings. (Of course, given this requires certain things…
