Lessons learned are always great. I would hate to see the "pucker factor" of those admin's when the system started shutting down. There system will be better after this problem.

So agree with @byrona and @cahunt on adding additional resources can amplify the problem. I have done the exact thing and cause more problems. Check performance as you increase resources.
