Hi anjanmajumdar​ when you find out what caused it can you let us know? I'm curious what changed the alerts so extremely. For example, did you configure alerts to notify you when a node hasn't been polled longer than "X minutes" and this was the issue? 

Just a reminder all, this was a limited time offer for the 2,000 thwack points which ended in May, but as I got my threads confused and posted to engineerbaz and cahunt that this was still open, i'll go ahead and make sure you get 500 points for posting.
