After speaking with the escalation engineer and troubleshooting the issues it looks like the problem is the original upgrade of SAM did not complete properly. Have a session scheduled tomorrow to repair NPM,SAM, and Core services to see what that gets us. Thanks again for the help

Thanks, I have to get our Change review board to approve the upgrade (which since support can't tell me it will definitely fix our issue isn't easy) It will probably be about a week until I can upgrade. I typically don't upgrade to an new version until either the first service release comes out or if it fixes a specific…

Thanks Alterego.... I had searched and searched but couldn't find a KB on Win2008 only things that came up were 2003. I will get this over to our Wintel team.

Well by pure accident we found a working script for parsing a file in Unix. Typically you call the script like this perl ${Script} "/var/directory/logfile.txt" "ERROR" and every time it would fail with the invalid input. Well I accidentally left off the argument and I got a different error which led me to think what if I…

How would we execute the script if we have it stored on the server?
-
If you are getting them from like a router or switch you could probably debug with an access list or something to see the source...otherwise a sniffer or something might be needed to see what is scanning your network.

Didn't get really anywhere with support. It's a canned SQL performance template modified for this one instance. If I test it the template passes but it cannot automatically run with the schedule. Support wants me to upgrade to 10.3 but not for any specific reason just because of polling improvements.

I've been seeing a similar but different issue when polling Multiple WMI components to a server. We keep seeing an out of memory condition specifically when polling services. I have had to change several components to RPC. It's as if the WMI queries are overloading the system. I did see articles regarding WMI memory leaks…

So will what the other user suggested be a successful workaround? As you have discovered, a workaround would be to just have the script stored on the target server and just have APM execute the command line.
-
CTSChap, If you rename the file....it can't run. I tested and SW only creates an error saying that the DB Maint application is not installed. This way it will not start automatically tonight.

Here is the info from my debug. 2011-10-13 08:33:55,117 [STP SmartThreadPool Thread #21] [A143] [C369] ERROR SolarWinds.APM.Probes.LinuxScriptProbeBase`1 - Shell command failed. SolarWinds.APM.Probes.Script.LinuxScriptShellException: Script execution failed. Input string was not in a correct format. --->…

No I'm saying they are sending to solarwinds period. If they are auth traps then yes (Something is scanning them with an invalid string)

Ah the page actually does some other stuff on the physical click. This uses the jQuery library to emulate the click. http://www.jspaste.com/?id=341 Use that on the bookmark instead of the other big one. First time you run it, it will select all NEW objects (properly), and if you run it again it will deselect. That is…

Update on my case....After repairing all three polling engines (multiple times) and a full restart of systems I have not had a poller fail in a few days. I am seeing this message though on at least one template for SAM (FYI this same template with the exception of instance names works on 50 other servers on the same…

I hate to dig up an old thread but we are on apm 4.2 and experiencing this exact same issue....the script runs fine against a linux machine but against HPUX returns Input string was not in a correct format. If we run it locally on the Unix box it runs flawless. Any thoughts on this one? Looks like the original post went…

Denny, Has anyone else reported the same disk performance issues that we had? Renaming the DBMaint file was the only thing I could think of to stop the performance hits. I checked the table and there are over 6 million entries in that table most of which probably belong to interface that no longer exist. Thanks,
-
Awesome steve thanks....I'm still looking to do something with the SAM side of things as I have External nodes that I don't collect any CPU/Memory conditions on but need to know when I'm getting null data regarding components.

Solarwinds can receive traps from any source regardless of the management status of the device....So if you put forward a GPO push or something to configure devices to send to solarwinds it can still receive them
-
Assuming your system time is between 7am - 7pm and the day isn't Sunday I see no reason why this isn't working as setup. All fields appear to be set correctly.
-
Well upon further review although it does select the interface checkboxes it appears to break something. After the boxes are selected and go to chose add to ignore list I get an error message that says please select net object first. The page itself looks ok but something is breaking and the ignore doesn't function.
-
Can you confirm that the SNMP location is indeed configured on the device.
-
You need to open a case with support if you haven't already. This memory leak was specific to WPM and was way before 11.5. Good luck.
-
I emailed this information into support around 9:15 AM CT and have not received a reply back.
-
I updated the case with this information and also uploaded an incorrect Trap from the Traps table along with the details for that trapID from the TrapVarbinds table.
-
I'm also having the same problem....on my SLX installation I have over 3000 interfaces. The DB maint is impacting disk performance so badly that we are missing polls creating hundreds of false positives.....I'm all for getting rid of the old data but this is brutal. What will happen if I temporarily rename the DBMaint.exe…

This is very disappointing news. This is the first bug I have encountered that truly prevented an alert from being triggered in the 6 years I have used this product. We heavily rely on traps for instant notification from devices that I cannot query to gain the same information. Will this be available as a hotfix or drop to…

Casey, Thank you.....I cannot easily get a PCAP but what I can do is this. I have a device intentionally sending me a trap that Orion isn't processing correctly every 5 minutes. I'm sending that same trap to my laptop running Engineer's toolset which allows me to show the OIDs in their raw non-decoded format. Here is a…

I apologize support emailed 2 hours ago and it went to my junk folder. The recommendation was to repair which I informed them was done prior to opening the case.

Although, it could be overwhelming if you had to set it all up right when you got it. Hmm...like replacing an existing Openview Installation by the end of November.... As for the volume alert I'm finding that most of the volumes that are failing are ones that no longer exist and I simply need to remove them. Once again if…

Great thanks! Last question....unfortunately when you look at the discovery results you see not only the new elements but the elements you have already imported...any way to get it to match only the new? Here is a short excerpt...I would like to try and avoid accidentally checking any existing boxes and only select those…
