THis is something we struggled with as well when I ran my NOC. You can try the zooming and what not but it is still never perfect. Another option I always wanted to do but couldn't nail down the resource to do it was to write a custom web page. One of the options for the alert actions is to get or post to a web page. If…

Are you kidding me? I know that traps are something being fixed but how is that not an option. I thought of that at lunch and was looking forward to turning it up when I got back to my desk.

Can't alter the message center page however..I've done something similar and created a report formatted the way I wanted and then linked to that. Trade off is unlike message center it's not dynamic and I can't just filter down to one node or search.

Are you wanting to unmanage or delete??? If you want to delete you can do what I have listed below...not sure how to unmanage directly from the DB on the volumes table. I would always suggest backing up your DB first before editing directly however it can be done from the database. If you are certain that this query…

When creating a view it is not common knowledge that you must then "publish" that view in order to access it. As a customer I had over 300 custom views written which is far too many to put on menu bars and have them remain clean. When I became a Sales Engineer for SolarWinds I did a webinar and published this post…

Here is how I would accomplish this. First create a new view call it something like Storage Interfaces Then add (under the miscellaneous section) Custom object Resource Edit the custom Object Resources and select one of the interfaces you want to have (hopefully they are named logically or tagged with custom properties to…

I'm more looking for confirmation that I do indeed need to restart all my pollers. I'm trying to get this on our standard change list so I can do it without board approval.

NPM is strictly monitoring....NCM Network Configuration Management would be needed to make changes to your devices.

The last link fails for me Danielle. With this error. Sorry, there was a problem with your last request! Either the site is offline or an unhandled error occurred. We apologize and have logged the error. Please try your request again or if you know who your site administrator is let them know too.

You would need to disable the NPM syslog service to enable the Kiwi to capture the logging.

Is there a way to customize an automated acknowledge URL? I currently use a Juniper SA VPN as the frontend to my internal network, and we all know the alerts we want to acknowledge quickly are those that occur at 2AM when I'm not within my internal network(I'm at home, sleeping!). In this case the ack URL is useless as I…

No problem...this one was near and dear to my heart as I had to create a workaround to do this on 7000+ interfaces before it was added as a built in option to SW. Proof they listen to the community however

Yes you can set the interfaces to mark as unplugged instead of down. this is done on a per interface basis (but you can edit multiple at once). Find the node in node management...expand the interfaces...choose all you want to mark this way and set to display interface as unplugged.

I am currently running a copy of the SL100 on an MS VM. I did dedicate a NIC to the server. I have been running for approximately a month and have not found anything odd or out of the norm. The application has ran flawlessly.

Any protocol open on a server comes with some level of risk. There are steps you can (and should) take to mitigate that risk however. Limiting SNMP to being queried from specific hosts or subnets or as you stated using SNMP v3 which allows for some confidentiality by encrypting packets and also authentication by using a…

When I add a new node to NPM v10.1.3, how do I add it to a specific polling server? Do I use the drop down menu on the Add Node page to select the poller to add the node to, or do I add the node to the Primary only and later load balance it to another poller? Thanks. Select the drop down. Using the load balance feature…

This unfortunately is limited to the node management rights. Without those rights a user cannot unmanage a node.

Donald, I do this using custom properties because I agree they are not all created equally. For instance we use several multilink circuits in our environment so I tagged the aggregates as WAN_Interface and then filtered some of our views. The reason for this is if I had 3 T1s on an router that made up 1 multilink interface…

I know this is an old post but since someone brought it up. Currently, is there a way to configure Orion to calculate availability for a single node based on the response from two different IP's? We would like to report if both go down and not just one. For example, this would be used to monitor a load balancer. Wouldn't a…

One thing to keep in mind about the preview is even if you have account limitations the preview is viewed as the user that is logged in not as the user you are configuring with the limitations assigned. So if you are logged in as Admin and you were locking down an account called Tom you won't see the restrictions assigned…

I just used this a few weeks ago before I upgraded to 7....it says 6.1 so I'm not sure if it will work with 7 or not but here is the page you can find it at. http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-143474

Check the alert every 10 minutes will not cause it to retrigger but rather simply check to see if the alert is still valid. If you want to retrigger you need to look at the escalation portion of the alert.

Are you installing as an admin?
-
Yes and that's when this issue started. We went from 4.2.2 to 5.0.1
-
You can always download a previous version from the customer portal...do the install and grab the files.
-
After out I figure a way to do this post...I need to tackle this one. All of this extra work for one problem because SW doesn't support multiple IPs per device....uggh.

Was listed on the what are we working on section this morning. What we are working on now
-
SNMP traps are tied only to nodes in the database. Therefore the status you are pulling is from the node not an interface.

Where is the like button :)

Kevin, I have the same issue and Solarwinds has stated that the current revision of connect now is only doing layer 2 topology. The newest release that is in beta is supposed to support layer 3 topology that hopefully will cover this issue. I am anxiously awaiting this myself.
