SQL Server and DB2.

Props to whomever put Z Cavaricci in the poll! Had not thought of them in a long time. They were all the rage in late 80's Jersey. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of gazing upon the ultimate evolution of poofy, pleated pants: http://www.liketotally80s.com/2015/02/z-cavaricci-pants/

Thank you!

"Break Glass in Case of Emergency".... that would be cool. Reality is boring... it's a locked cabinet in a secure room, on a secure floor. It contains backups of sensitive data, and some hard copies of passwords and such. I don't even have access.

"techno-Ecclesiastes" = awesome

Hi , I never heard back about this. Any update? Thanks!

Hi DanielleH and maria.bungau, I have an issue with Q9. I left it open in my browser overnight (unanswered), and when I refreshed it this morning, it says I already completed it. Can you assist? Thanks.

Congrats nickzourdos! Enjoy!

We are SAM users... that said, I don't have anything that comes to mind for API monitoring.

Cool, that's great news. Thanks for the update aLTeReGo

@"the_ben_keen" yeah I have learned the same thing. We used to offer 4 tiers of alerting schedules, but we eventually reduced it to 2: 24/7 (p1) and business hours only (p2). Usually everyone says they want P1 monitoring, and they we say, "OK, so that's going to wake you up at 2 AM if it goes down... that's what you want,…

The quad-monitor stand! Nice. One of my co-workers has one. I stuck with 3, myself. But 4 looks cool.

Thanks tomasv

Trying to understand the logic (or lack thereof) used by previous staff in setting up alerts. In one case, each team set up their own alerts, so some alerts were node-specific (as in "alert me when node xyz = Down"), others were very general. Some used variables; most did not. Repeat x 400-500 alerts

Hmmm... let's see: * a SolarWinds-branded wireless mouse * bring back USB drives? I still use my 4 & 8 GB drives from the Thwack store. Perfect for Linux installs Thanks!

Thanks for the share jbiggley !

Just what I wanted... thanks.

There are some brilliant maps posted here. Ours, on the other hand, is extremely simple (remember the "Easy Button"?) This map is for the large screens in the NOC. This 2nd map is for the workstations in the NOC - it has a little more detail (still not much).

I've been with my current employer 7 years, but never had a desk longer than 2 years (3 different buildings, actually). So it keeps me from accumulating too much. Unfortunately, that cannot be said about my home office. And I am fortunate enough to have Windows and Linux workstations, with 3 monitors each. Couldn't fit…

Try Firefox. Do this: Go to about:config. Search for these: security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha By default, these are set to TRUE. Set them to FALSE in order to allow the less secured pages. Are you using a self-signed cert? You might want to spring for a real cert, if possible.

My thwackpack is also showing wear after 1 year. The stitching is ripped in 2 places. Not a big deal, but I expect to need another one in a year or so, unless I can get it sewn up properly (which is not in my skill set). FYI in case quality control is listening: the ripped stitches are on the right shoulder strap, and the…

Some thoughts: 1. Echo other comments... don't set up every alert you can think of right away. Grow them over time. As things happen, you will think, "hey, how can I alert on that for next time?". This is where some of the most interesting alerts come from. It may be something unique to your environment. 2. Are there any…

We use FoE for our primary and additional engines (the additional poller is for scale, not redundancy), and NeverFail for the DB server (same technology). We keep one set of VMs in each data center. Cool stuff, although it will add time to your patching and updating processes.
-
We also use a custom property, called DeviceType. We use that to direct alerts (some alerts look for devicetype = prod server, others switch/router/whatever), and also to filter views and resources. So for example, we can run a report showing low disk space on prod servers by filtering out devicetype = NonProd Server. It's…

We have separate teams using these products (Server team uses NPM, plus a lot of other SolarWinds products, and network team uses NCM and IPAM). So we're not using them "together" in any way. I'd be interested in seeing what is suggested in this area. Network uses NCM for backups and config mgmt... they love it.

Following up on my own post, in case it's useful to anyone else. And thanks for the suggestions, RichardLetts. We decided to go with a custom report which shows traps (filtered by a SQL query) which have arrived in the last 30 minutes. It displays as a resource next to the network map. It does not display much detail other…

Unfortunately my scenario won't help you. We have a monthly maintenance window for patching, so all timeframes are known; despite that, our mgmt chose to keep things managed and let the email alerts fly. We don't have any uptime SLAs, so it doesn't really matter, other than having a lot of email in my SolarWinds folders…

We have the same issue. We currently have to rebuild a test environment with eval licenses each time we want to add a feature (such as testing NCM, which we are about to do). I think that customers with unlimited licensing should be granted a second, limited license (such as 10 nodes), for testing purposes. For us this is…
