i've been pro-printer mangement for a long time but i can't sell it to IT Management. i can show giga-tons of network traffic - errors - and time-savings but no luck here.

In the account you're using, check inside your Network Performance Monitor Settings, check the dropdown for Node Details View. Change Node Details to By Device Type and see if that corrects it for you. Along the way with Service Packs there was something which caused an issue between using Node Details and By Device Type…

i notice you have both "Finished" and "Finished." and this is case-sensitive, but in your arguments do you have the full path looking like this? -file C:\"Program Files"\SolarWinds\Orion\testfile.txt -pattern Finished. and then Statistic Warning Threshold 1 Statistic Critical Threshold 1

one thing i can think of is using a sniffer at the Orion server. maybe something like Microsoft Network Monitor or Wireshark or whatever you have in house. you can set up a real-time sniffing session (based on your filter criteria) to capture only those SNMP polling packets to the device. the packet details would contain…

would this reference be any help for you? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175003.aspx

you might try to BLANK it out - use SUBMIT to save it - then preview it and turn around and put the same filter back into it. some times this will correct pointers or something...

the first week of February 2009 i moved Orion's database to new hardware with new OS (went from Windows 2003 Standard to Enterprise) plus installed SQL Standard 2005 which included SP3 (9.00.4035.00) and it has been running w/o any issues with Orion.

Hey Eric, I sent you an email today about something else. Let me know if you got it OK. Thanks.

do you see the sub-interfaces in System Manager? under Interface Details? there you should be able to fix the bandwidth. just click the button for Custom Bandwidth and fill in your value for 2MB

What do you mean by "MEN & STM"?

on your Orion server, if you type in NETSTAT -ANO and check the process using UDP port 514, does yours match the actual Orion Syslog service process or is it showing another one running on that server? do you have a sniffer you can put on your Orion server to see that you're actually receiving UDP packets with port 514…

i've been seeing this also. NPM 9.5.1 but it is on Cisco 72xx routers with T1s.

we just got the Cisco ASA 5540 which is replacing our Cisco VPN 3xxx Concentrators. as soon as i can i will try to MIB walk it and see if i can provide any help to you. i do have our VPN sessions monitored on the 3xxx Concentrators using various OIDs to show IPSec LAN-to-LAN and OverNAT-T .etc plus Tunnel Count and Session…

this may be a real stupid question (this i can do well) but i notice our servers are 64bit Linux - is this any concern to work with Orions NPM 10 ESX API? Linux myhostname 2.6.18-128.ESX #1 Fri Apr 10 00:08:17 PDT 2009 x86_64

we are having many issues stablizing SNMP with ESX 4 and seeing the CPU & MEMORY gauges also. we don't get NIC or DISK VOLUMES either. when we do get SNMP working it spikes the ESX system's CPU and we have to stop the SNMP process. we do have a high pri case opened with VMware. we really need to monitor the hardware on our…

Yes it can be done. This works for our Cisco 3030 VPN Concentrators. Use these settings with each OID you will be using: MIB VALUE TYPE: Raw FORMAT: Enumeration SNMP GET TYPE: Get Table POLLING TYPE: Node Once you ASSIGN it to a node then go into the web view and define your columns from these tables.

i just checked one and they looked normal. one w/BPS and the other w/% if you click either one where it opens a new window then you can use your own defined parameters does the problem follow it?

Sorry... I found the answer soon after posting - it has to do with the View's property called INTERVALS. I lowered it to 15 minutes and got it!

in System Manager - go to the Node then the interface, right click and select Interface Details. here's an example of a Metro Ethernet interface. you could see about the same from your Orion web site. just drill into the Node then the interface. you should see the Util and the rate of your 20MB link like this one shows.…

thanks for this NEW tool to use with Orion...we have a 50 inch plasma screen i'll try this on. i have a few dumb questions - with this 2 sec refresh will you have to change your network device polling or anything else to accommodate or benefit from this faster rate? also, you mention it will increase load on the Orion…

We have a state with ~50 locations using SonicWalls. TZ150 through TZ200. About 2/3 of these come into HQ (Cisco VPN Concentrators) and the remainer are backhauls through SonicWall 3060 then MPLS. Absolutely no issues using Solarwinds Orion to monitor these devices with SNMP - Fault & Performance-wise. You won't be…

i've used this alert to log high pps into the net perf mon event log/console and here's the alert messge sent to the log: ( HIGH TRF RATE) for Packets-per-Second on NODE ${Node.Caption} on INTERFACE - ${FullName} *** In Speed ${Inbps as Bandwidth} Out Speed ${Outbps as Bandwidth} *** Packets-per-Seconds In ${InPps} Out…

that sure would be a nice feature to switch between ifDesc and ifAlias. are you speaking of the view named Current Percent Utilization of each Interface in Node Details view? i'm also curious how this could be modified too, but i can't find where to access it. of course an alternative to this can be done using the UnDP and…

first thing, make sure the SNMP TRAP service has total access to UDP port 162. to verify this on your Windows server type in NETSTAT -ANO you should see from that list if UDP 162 is available and also see which Process ID (hopefully snmptrap.exe) has it…you definately want SNMPTRAP.EXE to have it and nothing else. Verify…

Here's a WIKI link which should help clarify it for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burstable_billing I know where you're coming from. My first introduction to this was when I started using Solarwinds. It's a good tool if you are an ISP. But we really don't make heavy use of it in our own enterprise.

Avnish, I don't think it is possible to change the colors - but - that's an excellent thought and maybe it is coming soon. I sure hope so. The popup that you mentioned does work and it works well. I use it in a lot of my maps plus you can actually present the values on the map, see below an example i created. These values…

In my Orion web interface for SYSLOG - if I use this in the field MESSAGE PATTERN then I get only those messages matching the pattern - does anything like this work for you with your own? %broadcast packet dropped%

do you have your batch file located in this path to \SYSTEM32? like, C:\Windows\System32\mybatch.bat my experiences with these types of things have been better putting them in this area to get them executed. i'm passing variable data OK with external actions.

It sure is. For example. Here's a SYSLOG report which Counts Messages by 'Severity' for the Last 24 hours coming from IP Host addresses starting with 10.16x.x.x SELECT SysLog.Hostname AS Hostname, SysLog.IP AS Source_IP_Address, SysLog_SysLogSeverities.SeverityName AS Severity, COUNT(SysLog.Message) AS COUNT_of_Message…
