I just installed SP2 yesterday and I'm now seeing the same behavior. I have a report that shows me a list of all nodes added in the past 7 days. The report itself runs fine, but each node listed links to the node detail page at http://servername instead of the DNS name.

When the router is not on backup, does the dial interface show down? If so, you might be able to create a report and filter out times when the dial interface shows up.

If you right click on the poller and select Edit, look for the "Show Advanced Options" section (it's a button with a plus on it in the middle of the Define Your Universal Device Poller window. Your MIB Value Type should be Raw Data and the Format should be set to Enumeration. There should be a button next to the Format…

You'll have to download each of the modules you want to evaluate from the Solarwinds website. They all have 30 day evals just like Orion. You have to install each module separately on your Orion server. Once installed, you'll see them in the menu bar.

I have noticed the same behavior in my environment. I currently have 25 DHCP scopes that show up as discovered but have been deleted from our DHCP server. I've also tried adding them back into IPAM and then deleting them. They immediately show back up in the list of Discovered Scopes, Not Added to IPAM.

Patriot, I believe it validates both. I tried putting a bogus RW string in one of my nodes and the snmp validation failed. I also put a valid RW string and a bogus RO string and that validation failed as well. What's a bit curious is I left the community string (RO) field blank, entered a valid RW string and the validation…

Eric, Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, I haven't be on Thwack much lately. You should be able to create custom reports using the report writer on your Orion server that allow you to define the statistics you require. There is also an Orion Report Scheduler app that will allow you to schedule any report to be…

EllisD The other thing you can check is under Web Console Settings on the Admin page. By default, the Orion page only refreshes every 5 minutes.

I don't know of any log or event you can check to see the reason a map is in a warning state. The only other thing I could think of is if you happen to be using an additional web server to front end your Orion web site. If changes to your map in Map Maker didn't get published to additional web server properly, your map…

No, interface bandwidth would be 9 minutes by default. Node statistics are for devices like routers and switches. Node statistics are things like CPU and memory utilization. The default interface statistics are for the nodes' interfaces. That covers items such as bandwidth utilization, interface drops and errors, etc.…

I know we've looked at the 1000v but I haven't heard anyone say we're going to them. We currently have no visibility into the vSwitches on the ESX servers. You're right, we can't see any host to host traffic for servers on the same ESX box. We use Opnet products for packet analysis and they make a virtual version of their…

You can add any report you've created in Report Writer to any of your views. Just log in as admin and go to settings. In the Views section, click Manage Views. For example, if you wanted to add a report to your NPM Summary Home page, highlight that view in the list and click Edit. Decide which column you want your report…

You have to source the NetFlow from whatever IP address you are using to monitor the node with in Orion.

Marie, The readme I have from the customer portal shows the path for the MIBs.cfg file for Orion as \Program Files\SolarWinds\Common. The build date on the readme is 6/04/2010. Thanks, Kevin

I'm running an eval version of version 10 and it doesn't seem to have the MIBS.cfg file. The MIBs have to be there somewhere though, I'm able to browse the MIB tree in the UnDP tool on the server.

Gerjan, Actually, you can modify the report.asp file (at least until the next major release, when Orion no longer supports custom asp resources.) At one point, there was a description of how to do this in the content exchange area. You have to add a line to the report.asp file (in the \inetput\SolarWinds\NetPerfMon…

Or maybe it could be set to only be seen by accounts with admin rights, like the messages indicating new blog posts and new NPM product updates.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the NPM threshold settings work something like this: On our Top 10 page, any device listed in the Top 10 Nodes by Percent Memory Used that is under the Warning Level percent is listed as green. Anything over the Warning level but below the High level will show yellow. Any…

If you're primarily looking for a tool to help you with troubleshooting network issues in unfamiliar networks, you need to get the Engineer's Toolset. It will help you be far more productive in tracking down issues than you're current method of turning down parts of the network. Check out the features of the Engineer's…

You can select Last 30 days in the Named Time Frame drop down on the Time Frame tab. This will grab data for the last 30 days and then you can define your 8am to 5 pm in the Filter Results tab. The report should then pull 30 days of data and just report on the hours you filtered out. Are you trying to create a report for a…

Hi Mike, In NPM 10.2.x, the L2 and L3 topology data polling has been broken off from the Network Sonar discovery. The polling jobs are described in the NPM release notes here: SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Release Notes You can see in the following link that we are still looking at utilizing CPD/LLDP data…

Stevel, What version of Orion are you running? I get the same error and opened a support ticket on it (case #52947.) It is supposed to be fixed in SP1 for v9.1. I'm installing the service pack this weekend during our maintenance window.

Sean, One of bkessler's questions was is there a safe way to remove the bogus data from the database. If one has a lot of bogus data in their database, it could definitely skew utilization reporting. I happen to know bkessler and had suggested using an update statement to replace the bogus data with a more realistic value…

Glad I could help. Nice Ducati! I've never ridden one, but it's on my list of things to try someday. Until then, I'll just have to be content with the ZX-14!

What you're looking for is a custom view. If you log in as admin and click on the Admin tab, you'll go to the Views section. Click on Manage Views. That will take you to the manage views page. Click the Add button to add a new view. You'll be taken to the Add New View page. Give the new view a name and select the type of…

In the web console, you will acknowledge alerts in the Alerts tab, not the Events tab. Alerts and events are in different tables in the database. In your advanced alerts trigger actions, you log the alert to the event log, you'll get both an alert and an event in the event log. If you go into the Alerts tab, you'll see…

The 6509s do support layer 2 netflow, but your version of IOS doesn't. The layer 2 support didn't show up until 12.3(14)T.

Thanks for the info Malcolm. the net.tcp port sharing service is disabled on our servers as well. Can anyone from SolarWinds confirm that this service is required for upgrading 8.5.1 SP3 directly to 9.1? We aren't doing integrated authentication, so hopefully that won't be an issue. I'll keep any eye out for your update…

sotherls, When you reply or compose a post, at the top of the window you should see three tabs, Compose, Options, and Preview. If you click on the Options tab, there is a button on that tab for adding an attachment to your post. Hope this helps, I'd like to see a screen shot of what you've got in place.

jahanzaibamin, There is an out of the box report that should show you all of the switches in your 3750 stack called "Cisco 3750 Stack - Physical Entity." From the NCM tool on the server, you can set this report to be emailed out on a scheduled basis. Go to Reports then select Schedule Report. Give the Job a name and click…
