A couple of things: 1) See above. There's a SQL query which can clean up existing situations. 2) We've not had the problem since I ran the query. 3) I've made extensive use of the "unplugged" feature for interfaces that are not uplinks/downlinks/links-to-critical-nodes. Eliminates a lot of this. -ktb

Just to add a note to this thread. The poller referred to above for the 750 seems to enable radio ports managed by HP WSM's and RWSM's to show up as interfaces on the WSM. This is useful as we can set alerts on these radio ports. Still nothing on getting the MSM760 and MSM765 to show controlled AP's, either as an interface…

You won't get it in the native NPM views - you will have to add the undp resource to the page (Customize Page link in upper right, add resource, find your undp and add).

I received the following email from Support: Re: Network Sonar Discovery - Purpose of Interface Discovery By mharvey in Orion Network Performance Monitor Karl, Our technician working on case 304991 requested the diagnostics on behalf of our developers. They would like to collect that information from you in order to get…

First, due to a problem reported over a year ago that no one has done anything about, the portal shows no cases for me. Nothing open, nothing closed, nothing in progress - nothing. Maybe there is a way to track this down, but I don't have time to debug your portal for you. Second, the instructions I had said to contact my…

To be honest, Chrystal, I would open a support ticket... If I remember, they had me run one script to determine what the next script would look like, and your situation may be different. It's disappointing to learn that this issue hasn't been resolved yet. They seem to have a real problem with interface discovery.

OK! So everything's fine! This is very frustrating. I really don't understand why we can't just compile MIBs into the MIB database like everyone else. That said: how do I gain access to all this wonderful information? I have over 30 APs controlled by this 765, and only 2 fat APs show up in the wireless tab. Our sales rep…

I've generated the requested diagnostics file. It is 58.4MB. Please instruct on how to get this to support staff. -ktb

Thanks. I'll start looking into this. I'm hoping for an "official" answer from SolarWinds as they were the ones that told me (some time ago) that it wasn't "ready for prime time".

FWIW, I've submitted some UnDPs that work well with MSM-760, MSM-765, and WSMs. Search for ProCUrveMSM-KTB01 (sic) in the submissions. Note that this brings up useful information on the Node Details page of the MSM, not in the expanded interfaces for the MSM on the managed nodes page, which is what we really want.

Ok. Thanks for your input, Troy.

To what address should I send the results?
-
*BUMP* Can someone please let me know when a resolution for this is planned? I'm spending 4-6 hours *per week* just telling NPM to ignore the same interfaces over and over. I finally convinced my server crew to turn on SNMP on servers, and now I'm paying the penalty for it.

Chrystal, Support had me run a script which cleaned it up. Since I've seen it pop up again, I surmise this is a bug. Not sure if it was cleared up in the latest release. -ktb

Is there any time frame for a change to discovery which will address these problems? I've spent about an hour during each of the past two weeks just clicking individual interfaces and then ignoring them. Just to reiterate: * A lot of the problems stem from changes to interfaces with non-persistent interface indexes* This…

I have opened Case # 304991 for this. There seem to be two aspects to this; the first doesn't really warrant a ticket: What was the thinking behind the way this designed to work? What was the intended maintenance process? The second part is probably a feature request: is there a way to, on a per-node basis (possibly…

I'm still not sure you have this. It's pretty simple: * Monitor a switch which has devices connected to it (so that interfaces are up) * select the switch in Managed Node view * List Resources * uncheck (deselect) all of the interfaces and submit * go to the switch and disconnect one of the interfaces so that it is * The…

So what are the ramifications of ignoring an interface. If I suddenly decide I need to be monitoring an interface say something critical has been connected to it), do I have to remember to go "un-ignore" it (not an unreasonable thing, just wanting to understand what the intended process was)?

Were you able to get access points controlled by these controllers to appear in the Wireless page?
-
We are on NPM 10.1.2 SP1. Yes, detecting as simple device. The thin clients do not show up on the wireless page. This is really "unfortunate", as we were told that the HP MIB (mentioned below) would take care of this, and it does not (or we are not using it correctly). It was a major selling point of the product. Is there…

Has there been any updates on this? I'm trying to do something similar.

I am working on this as well. I've developed a number of UnDPs that come up with some useful information on the node details page for the MSMs (works for MSM765, MSM760, and MSM710); but am struggling with getting useful information in any kind of coherent view or get appropriate alerts for managed-ap-down events. I think…

After digging into this and discussing my needs with the support staff, it was determined that Dependencies were not quite ready for prime time, and we've implemented a rather crude method of dependencies by writting suppression rules. This is, of course, cumbersome and time consuming. At the moment, I only have this…

Thanks, Nandish. Not exactly what I was looking for, but very helpful. I modified the code a bit to add some additional fields (note: "siteid" (Site ID) is a custom properties field that identifies the location of the device and is used to group the report by site). select…

Interesting approach, and - geek that I am - I would love to give it a try, but I can't spend that much time on this type of problem. I need a supported solution from SolarWinds. -ktb
