The real comparison is going to come when we get enough data to compare. Super easy to latch on to every single instance in such a relatively small pool of data. Not that every instance isn't tragic, but if we're going to compare relative safety and effectiveness we need billions of more miles driven by autonomous vehicles…

The current plan is to have the classes recorded and posted later.

So many horror stories, but I think the winner has to be: A user called in when I was a green helpdesk tech at a call center and informed me that when she turned on her monitor it began to spark and smoke. I wasn't so green that I couldn't tell her to try to safely turn it off and unplug it if possible and made sure that…

I used to have to explain a lot more about how what I do has little to nothing to do with green energy... Now I just give the token "IT" or "Computers" answers, and sometimes for internal folks I'll explain that I'm the guy that tells the guy (who fixes things) where it hurts.

The most nifty part of my workspace right now is the twin monitor mounts that let me position my monitors however. Otherwise it looks like any other location of half cubes. The walls allow us to use them like whiteboards and the wireless headset allows me to annoy my coworkers by walking around.

I'm not sure I have a great answer, but it looks like you can use Swagger to fill in some of the blanks, it's basically another tab from the Schema, here's a link to the specific section you're talking about: http://solarwinds.github.io/OrionSDK/swagger-ui/#/Verbs/CirrusConfigArchiveDownloadConfig

Another thought, is it using SNMP location as the variable and was the information updated on the device itself?

CISA put out the advice a week or two back, so that's likely why a lot of customers are following suit: https://cyber.dhs.gov/ed/21-01/ "Until such time as CISA directs affected entities to rebuild the Windows operating system and reinstall the SolarWinds software package, agencies are prohibited from (re)joining the…

You can find information here: https://github.com/solarwinds/OrionSDK/wiki There's also sample scripts, some of the languages have different samples so I usually check against both Python and Powershell: https://github.com/solarwinds/orionsdk-python/tree/master/samples…

I didn't see a way to access the field from the graphical builder, but you can make a mapping with a SWQL query for a custom alert if you're familiar with those. You'll need the where clause to be something like: You'll almost certainly want to limit the device type or naming convention or the interface type/naming…

OK, I'm not familiar with the MSP product. So the answers I've provided above are for the on prem tool SolarWinds Patch Manager which relies on WSUS. Makes more sense why we weren't connecting. Unfortunately I don't know as much about the MSP side of things, but here's a link for their KB:…

There is no documentation to help you deploy the SolarWinds Client Components using a third party tool. You can see the arguments used when deploying the components by editing the package to see what rules are used and other commands. It's just /s for silent as you mentioned in your original post.

Yes, you will definitely want to import the list, but you may need to make some changes. At a high level (easier said then done), here's what I would do: 1) Put your rule in test mode. (Be sure to hit Activate Rules) 2) Import the UDLP list as a UDG (user defined group) - Import a text file to create a User Defined Group…

My brain is bumping into a lack of PowerShell knowledge and it's a little late on a Friday, but after the line where you set $nodeUri using the SELECT query you need this: $nodeUri = $nodeUri |% {[string]$_} Once you have that it should clean up the string that you get back and resolve it. I got that from the initial…

M is correct, to add to this we skirt around it by putting in a clause along the lines of: If output = expected, statistic = 0. Else, statistic = 1 and then set the component that anything > 0 is critical. You can do this with exit codes if you want the status to be actually down, for example, but for us it's usually that…

"Additionally the UDLP and the LEM white list both needing to contain device information in order for the device to NOT be detached seems redundant as I thought they were two separate options for achieving the same result but perhaps this is what you are referring to as far as the 'issue' you mentioned. My real concern is…

Then your $nodeUri variable is empty due to your query not returning a result. You can use the SWQL to confirm your query returns the expected result prior to using it in the script or adjust it to something since you're using: $nodeUri = Get-SwisData $swis "SELECT Uri FROM Orion.Nodes WHERE SysName LIKE'dbprod1a'" You…

Hello Jheric, There are definitely some things that I'm not understanding here. If I were in Support I would want to take a look at your setup so that I could better understand it. Are you perhaps using the MSP tools? N-Central Patch Management? https://www.solarwindsmsp.com/products/n-central That would be very different…

This issue appears to have been resolved in Version 8.0 of VMAN. If you're still having the issue, make sure you're on the latest and then reach out to Support if you need additional assistance.

The WMI Client Components are deployed automatically at three main points (though you can manually create tasks to do it otherwise): 1) Patch Manager attempts a Managed Computer Inventory against the client. 2) Patch Manager attempts a management task such as Update Management. 3) The WMI providers have been approved as a…

You're pretty much right. I don't believe there's a function to use the groups like that. Groups is more for the dependencies and reporting pieces, but they didn't really include a group management type of feature so that you can group by groups or sort by groups in the Manage Nodes entity. You could probably whip…

Most often that I've seen this occur is due to having set a Custom Range set for the time-frame on your nDepth search. There's no point to scheduling a re-occurring search of, say Tuesday 11/21 as the data won't change. Once you set your time-frame to Last week or one of the other options you should be able to schedule the…

There's no simple way to run your query from Patch Manager reports that I'm aware of. If you wanted to put in the work for it, you could likely export a report to the XDQ format and modify it to include your fields and give that a try, but I've never seen it done, so I'm not 100% sure it would work.
-
Admittedly I mostly skimmed the above and may have missed if someone else has suggested it, but you may want to check this setting in your NTA settings: Enable flow monitoring from unmanaged interfaces - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support Make sure the checkbox is checked and NPM should be able to build the…

Makes some sense, but with the same query and the only difference being the HTML addition I'm not sure why it should work one way and not the other.
-
Not sure what I would check next, but at least if they're added it should be simple enough to edit them all together and update the polling method and credentials from there.
-
You are correct in that only one object can be a parent, but that object can be a group. So you create a Parent Group that contains Node A and Node B. You edit the group settings so that it reports the Best Status. That way both nodes have to be down before an alert is triggered. In this way none of the downstream nodes…

I put together this SWQL query that seems about right: SELECT TOP 1000 Name, Description, Severity FROM Orion.AlertConfigurations ac where (ac.AlertObject.Node.NodeID = ${NodeID} or ac.AlertObject.Node.NodeID is NULL) and ac.Enabled = TRUE and ac.ObjectType = 'Node' This assumes you're putting it on a node summary page, so…

There are instructions for setting the agent up to talk to a different remote port, but nothing I'm seeing for a range of local ports: Success Center It may be something Support has internally and can help you with if you can raised a case with them.
