We find that the Data Center licensing of VM SQL workloads make far more sense to us, and offsets other costs that increase. I will not pretend that SQL on a VM is easier, there are simply more things to think about to get it optimized for your workloads. Now that SQL has been completely virtual for 3 years, the initial…

I like biscuits, but what about a boneless beef brisket bracket battle?

This is us as well, and it seems the footprint in the data center shrinks each generation despite capacity and performance growth.

We were adding a secondary fiber connection to all our off site locations that had 2 possible service providers. At one location, a 3rd party was running the line from the poll under a parking lot to our building when he hit a gas line. The equipment operator figured it out quickly, and the nearby buildings were evacuated…

Me too, I am betting this only happened to people who fixed it when they flipped to the UK. Moved one up the list then one down.

It is what you think it is. Unless you are wrong.

Where are you that it takes 5 days? For a few years Columbus OH has had hour delivery with prime now. Its not everything, but its a lot of stuff, and they already have groceries, and partner with restaurants too.

My gut says no, I had to manually set up the groups the last time I needed to.I just breezed through SWQL studio to see if I was missing anything, and it looks like groups are really just fancy custom properties, but I don't see a way to update them. I think they live in: IPAM.GroupNodeDisplayCustomProperties and it says…

I keep thinking about that for my kids. The best thing I can teach them is how to learn, and how to solve problems. The rest is a moving target.

I am glad to say that while I can relate to every problem mentioned, we have taken strong steps to make all of them better. Audits and automated discoveries get compared to a CMDB. Ownership and support details get reviewed. When a flaw in the process is found, we address it. In a large organization it can take a lot of…

@"Vinx" I see what you mean, and I an not sure where to find it. I suspect that powered the links in Orion to get templates from Thwack, I bet it will be replaced. If I track it down I will let you know.

My limited experience is that well written apps have testing built in. AKA you hit a REST call and it replies in a particular way. You repeat for each function, or embed that test into the functioning and send the data (telemetry) off to a central store.

I killed the facebook alerts but left the app, and I do that with most applications. I am guilty of checking that phone too often though, its definitely something to reflect on.

DR communication is luckily one of our strongest areas in a large pediatric trauma center. We have IS plans that use internal systems with HA, and externally hosted methods (cell and slack), it rolls up to organization plans with include everbridge that is updated on a regular basis, and the org plan rolls over to regional…

I am just grateful when the thing I need a tool for makes it easy for tool building. Depending on a closed system vendor to close the tool gap drives me nuts

I think they likely are, but I think a lot of other people are too. Too often monitoring stops at: 'is it running' because you have to know know your application better to monitor more, and because you may have to maintain the monitor more as you upgrade the application.

I like them all, I think it might do us well to think like all four when adopting new thing. The luddite: Do we really need this? Is the old way so bad? The pessimist What's in the fine print? The optimist Will this widget might solve any long standing issues? The pragmatist Should we wait until the next generation of this…

Jackbox games do pretty well over Zoom or your video chat of choice. Just make sure you share your system audio. I have done them with both work and family

How fast do you move to new exchange versions? We won't move to 2016 for a while, and when we do, things that tie into it still will be lagging behind.

I clearly see how machine learning will improve IT. Typically, we look for what we want to find. Just removing the bias to see connections that an AI sees can be very enlightening.

What volume of data does your LEM handle?

Same here, this morning the answer didn't work, right now its just fine.

What kind of price for VM storage fits your budgets? What types of systems are you buying?

We use software audits to make sure our SQL backups aren't missed. It amazes me how my SQL express DBs vendors try to sneak in with no back up plan.

The automation change is real, the pace it comes, and how our economy adjusts are huge unknowns. I think I have positioned myself well, but I think about my kids and what skills they will need.

Leon, your kids are awesome, Thanks for making me smile.

I have recently run into pockets of resistance against automated patching. Some just want to "be there" when it happens, which is fine but seems like a luxury. Some want to do as little as possible because "its working now". Both make me think that you don't trust your understanding of what's important to keep your system…
