Microsoft has come along way from when my career started, but the IT landscape gave tehm a choise, change or become IBM.

Me too? We will find out. Tinkered for a few minutes, can get and work with both powershell and python, can work with the page in both, and crate images in both, just not of the page yet. I'll have more time to look at it later

Same here, I think maybe 1/3 of them got applied? I was expecting to be near 6k at the end of this. Its hard to track it all down from my profile points page.

It stuck in my head so I had to look it up. Azure uses modified Hyper-v and AWS uses KVM (What is KVM? - Kernel-Based Virtual Machine Explained - AWS (amazon.com))

Me too. But I haven't come up with a good way to suggest Orion should figure it out. I understand it, so I scripted it. I clean up the data the way I like it, and import. I typically only do this with new buildings for network gear or for new servers when they come in larger groups. If you use it, you can tweak what you…

I think that users almost always want to go to a person they trust. If that one time Bob fixed the screen thing, they want to go back straight to them.I have worked in my IT department for over 12 years, and many people remember me when they have issues. In my current job, its almost never the best use of my time, somebody…

Change here is almost impossible to keep up with, but there are DR plans which are high level, and details that change frequently. The details we try to have Machine generated data that gets audited.

I think this is it: October Mission Recap Survey >> https://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/solarwinds-community/announcements/blog/2015/11/02/mission-accomplished-october-2015-mission-recap-threat-hunter Edit: Looks like I found a link from the future. It might be live later

I agree, this was the toughest choice in the round.

The busiest week of my life was cleaning up after people made changes in a freeze. I still have nightmares.

The only constant is change, looking forward to new and exciting things from Thwack!

It's an honor, thank you!

Can't wait to watch this one!

Yah the slack one makes me scratch me head. Is it possible slack makes you less productive? Sure. But its a tool in the toolbox like any other. So I use slack, I brought it into our IT department 3 or 4 years ago, and some stuff improved because of it. If it went away tomorrow, as long as we found a home for the good…

Healthcare treats this differently, we have many tools and sensors that send data back to systems. There are 1.2 million patient visits a year where we work. I used to assume that most of these devices were running Linux or embedded Windows, but that's not true anymore. Now its mostly microcontrollers with a little storage…

I blocked it off, then got double booked for a few hours. Oh well, something things can't wait.

We have started to moved the AD password requirements closer to the new NIST standard like Microsoft, the 60 day expiration is going away. I like what replaces it, the blacklist seems pretty effective. Azure AD password protection - Azure Active Directory | Microsoft Docs

We have medical applications that have to take the entire infrastructure through FDA certification. It can take years. It was only in the last few years that the FDA put in writing that systems that have Security patches (so anything on windows or SQL) can apply patches to these systems. We have patched things against the…

It's a good idea to leverage instant messaging for sure @bshopp and thanks for the sample post. If you are looking for slack, take a look at: (+) Creating a Post to Slack with the "Post" action to a web server - Alert Lab - The Orion Platform - THWACK (solarwinds.com)

This sounds great, but what would be even greater is allowing for easy access to early voting. Yup, the best changes give voters reasonable window of time to submit a vote, because many people lead lives where a single day is going to be tough. I do like the bacon idea.

I support this line of reasoning, its about the benefit technology brings, not the technology that brings it. That's a pretty familiar theme in IT these days. And when I look at my IT departments, there's a handful of people focused on the database, and a handful of teams focused on solving problems with the data in them.

This is where you will include how a disaster event is being declared, who has the power to do so, and the chain of communication that shall immediately follow. In my experience, getting an IT team or business to agree on this is hard. In the end someone with authority makes a decision and agrees to adjust if needed. I…
