Interesting thoughts. We are moving proactively to IP reputation monitoring, and a multi-tiered security model that is scrubbing incoming traffic and we have fairly tight reigns on the outgoing traffic. Additionally, a SIEM has been brought up to help with the analysis of all the logs, events, and flows. These steps have…

Awesome summation and I show my pride in being in IT as I have now for 34 years. Lots of changes but the underlying passion is to solve the problem. Kudos to you and to all of us who claim to be IT Professionals.

Great information and something for the late night reading list. But, I think after the breach of the 4 million federal employees personal information in the last few weeks, maybe its time to review how this IT security is being monitored.

These are handy reference items. Thanks for sharing.

Food for thought!

Excellent article. I agree that we need more of this kind as required reading. Sometimes the simplest things are the most elusive and sometimes we need to go back to the basics. Information truly is the most valuable commodity and should never be taken for granted.

The basics are always the most important!

I have to admit my long nights coding applications when I was in college connected via a 2400 baud modem to the university's Unix system was heavily aided by the use of a blue light bulb. And you are correct! When I was a field service engineer, it was almost always expected to provide a solution as soon as possible, and…

After 3 and 1/2 decades of keeping 1's and 0's moving between points, I have seen lots of change and lots of the same. I agree that as we move forward the ultimate detail is who pays the administrator not that the administrator will be supplanted. It seems strange to see Server/Dumb Terminal evolve into Client/Server…

Interesting article. This matches with the same concepts that our ISO has been working with our Team for the past 3 years. We are making improvements in our systems, and our biggest failing in not having everything documented. Thanks!

Thanks for the article.

I agree good reference. Bookmarked this post.

What?!? like that can totally happen in real life. Plane flying at 180Mph can going 150Mph it would absolutely work.

Nice article. Unfortunately we need to be close to the current in the technological river or we get left behind. I am now personally on a path to put myself closer to the current. Been too long but need to get back there.

This post makes me think I need to investigate this further.
