The Alert Details has an Alert Note field, at least in my view. I have used it to enter ticket numbers. But you have to click the alert. I don't know how to get it to show on the Active Alerts page. One catch, what you put in there will still be there the next time the same alert fires on the same node/interface/etc. So it…

I love it! And it does fit!

Ah, yes. But in the last reboot of Spiderman, Electo destroyed it. Thanks for nothing Jamie Fox.

At my last job, we built a new data center due to campus remodeling. Part of the requirements we asked for were a generator and redundant AC units. Well, they put everything into place, but over time we discovered some problems. The first was they tested the generator weekly, which is a good thing, but they didn't program…

In my last job in a smaller community college, we struggled with this. How do you get the network gear to the same sync as the domain controllers? We found that even if we pointed the domain controllers and network gear at the same national time source, they were often a little off. Sometimes off enough to break one time…

Our Windows team has asked for this as well. Win-RM is preferred over straight WMI.

Agreed. They moved from CyberArk to Thycotic Secret Server here recently.

This may be a better article that talks about the collapse and has a really good picture of it. Friday Marks 7 Years Since I-35W Bridge Collapse « WCCO | CBS Minnesota

The show commands would have to either have some security around them or not be able to display any show commands related to security. You wouldn't want an unauthorized person to be able to see the output from a show username, show snmp, or show acl and get past device security. These types of commands should only be run…

That one hurt when he said it.

That is perfect! I was struggling trying to find a way to do this efficiently.

In my case, my dependency issues are related to compatibility issues between the 2012r2 main engine that has been around a few years, and brand new 2012r2 web servers we are trying to connect to it. We get errors just trying to edit a node on the new servers due to some incompatibility that hasn't been identified yet. I…

I had a custom property in NCM with all of the Cisco switch serial numbers entered, including the switches that were not online (shelfware), but one of the product upgrades wiped all of them out. I would be careful with that. I also rely heavily on our inventory management in our SharePoint as a result. That can have all…

That is a valid point. Very insightful. I have often felt government had their fingers in too many things and some things they never should have gotten involved with in the first place. This one, well I don't have any real doubt that some of the businesses would take advantage if they can to server their own profits or…

I have a big screen by the walk in help desk to show off a bit as well. I have been told I need to promote it a bit more so people can see we do monitor and are proactive.

This is unexpected. But, if they are just giving us the "Correct Answer", what are you going to do?

Microchips. Ok, I admit I like shows and movies where we can often see the bad guys stealing credentials like ID badges, copying finger prints, or worse. Loki stabbing someone with some tech to read an iris scan? So now the bad guys that need these things will need to cut a person to get the IDs. Like cut out the chip, or…

Maybe it is using that fancy new Hollywood Fiber Optic Air transmission technology? Maybe they are counting on everyone getting a fancy lighting kit for their cars?

I get a call to tell me the internet is down. This will I am outside watching the backhoe from the building remodel project digging up the campus internet feed, the cable TV lines, and the old legacy telephone trunks in the clearly marked area they were told not to dig. Oh, and also there was a guy hacking at something…

We have many LAN switches that are only running at layer 2. I think I could get the layer 3 ios switch images, but those are not on the compatible list either. So we need a Cisco router emulator for the emulation program. Sounds like the start of a nasty loop.

2 of us did that 6 hour drive to get from the Twin Cities to Chicago this year. It was worth it even with the extra time. Edit: I should say the trip was worth it. Dealing with the bean counters and travel expense forms is a huge headache. They are questioning everything.

I earned the CompTIA Security + several years ago. It was basic as described, but still a good start. At that time, the next most noticeable one was the CISSP, but since I wasn't on the security team where I worked and due to department size Security person there, wasn't likely to put it to use there. I have taken some…

I may have to chat with you about the badge communicator thing. I have been told that is coming to a site we support here and I will need to have solid SolarWinds monitoring for it and the supporting infrastructure. I don't know the ETA for it here though.

These are not bad workarounds. But in my environment, they don't show the most recent. Those fell out of scope, beyond the Top XX. I need to show the most recent first as many of the older ones for the query were un-muted some time ago.

I am sure they were just looking at what kind of money they can make off of this.

Calculator? I may have to find my old slide rule.

I used to fill this out in a Custom Property for every device before it was included. Lost most of the entries in one of my upgrades somewhere along the way.

It has it's own left menu tab in Node Details view if the switch is a stack switch. I have not seen any other separate menu item.

I didn't get it. I thought the answer was Friday.

The electrical circuit reference is an interesting analogy. Having a former career as an Electronics Technician and working with Electrical Engineers, including on this specific example of critical dampening hits home for me.
