mharvey You bear an uncanny resemblance to my younger brother. Like could pass for twins...

I'll bet there is something in the works after the FoE v2 moves out of beta

Two comments on this thread already today, but I couldn't resist the urge to bump this as part of the bumpsquad

+1 for peer review. That is especially powerful as we have a 100% remote work team with members in India (tier 1/2), the US and Canada (me!). This peer review process keeps us all honest and on track.

+1 on the ability to use existing lat/long from the (unsupported) Google maps integration. We certainly aren't going to leave behind any effort on the Google Maps front unless we can import our efforts from Google Maps into this mapping feature.

Feebly managed HP OpenView system I think that describes every HPOV system I've ever encountered.

I like that approach. In previous lives the lines between corporate and private assets was really blurred -- or maybe I just spent so much time at work I *thought* that the lines were blurred. If I own a device but use it at work I would expect that it needs to comply with corporate security protocols. For instances, I had…

I've posted a similar idea in the NTA forum to allow multiple NoSQL DBs to be used to collect data from distributed polling engines and collected locally for processing. https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/4855

kingcd -- let me try and help you out. SQL CAL licenses are only required for consumers of data in a SQL database. Microsoft posted a great article on SQL CALs. http://blogs.technet.com/b/volume-licensing/archive/2014/03/10/licensing-how-to-when-do-i-need-a-client-access-license-cal.aspx Check out point 2 "Generally…

Now that zackm has joined the team, he and ciulei have decided that we are just going to build our own datamart. It won't be every available statistic but we're just going to dump the majority of the node-related performance statistics for consumption by other teams via ETL. They won't be able to visualize that data…

Drooling over this idea. Seriously. Some days I spend so much time trying to figure out how to replicate a piece of data for a view in a report -- this single feature would save me so much time.
-
If the UI behaves the way I expect (dynamic, user-directed views of metrics) as well as allowing data sources for analytics I think I will be in #datageek heaven. Though I do agree with chuco187 that the back-end performance will need to beefed up. Whether SQL limitations, web server issues, etc. our 12000+ nodes will…

So, hypothetically speaking, if one wanted to replicate all of the monitoring done by an NPM instance with the agent, would that be possible? A client from a previous life would benefit greatly from being able to do agent and agentless monitoring on the same platform. (They were an MSP and the lack of an agent meant…

You should be able to do this by executing a local PowerShell script and passing in the required credentials as variables to the script from the node. WinRM would have to be enabled on the remote machine to make it work though. Could you post the code that you tried to execute?

Booking non-refundable airfare and accommodations as we speak.

Yeah but a 4 year waiting period for this idea to be implemented has exceeded our willingness to wait for it to happen. We'll do a Build-Your-Own-Adventure!
-
Has anyone successfully modified this script to use a non-SolarWinds source? I'd love to be able to take an Excel spreadsheet with pre-populated data, including custom attributes, and import it directly into NPM. Our team is going to take a crack at this, but if someone has already done it, I'd love to see your script.…

I definitely recommend Daniel Suarez and his Daemon and Freedom two-part series. Suarez is a (was a?) government IT consultant who has a wickedly interesting view (albeit a little dark) on the use of technology. Even though the books are only a few years old, we're already starting to see some of those predictions leak…

This idea has been knocked around for a few years. I remember some discussions about a 'small office' polling engine at one point but don't know if it ever came to fruition. MSPs of the world, and many others, would delight in being able to send data from a consolidated polling engine. Maybe cobrien can remind us if this…

Love #3 -- be a mentor. If you are a good mentor, then you will already be doing 1 and 2.

Ready and willing. (And probably a good time since something is broken with the correlation engine on our instance right now away)

I liked that, but I'm not even sure what to say after seeing that.

If you like this one, you should see my latest request around the use of variables to reference custom properties in SAM component thresholds

Perhaps we will create a geek singularity?

If you could vote 300 times I would let you. Maybe mrs.alterego could stack the ballot box for us??

+1 for making me remember installing software from floppy disks!

We are planning on moving our SQL server to GCP in a few months. I think once we get it there we might find a really good reason to start dumping data into one of the GCP data warehouse solutions. At a couple pennies per GB to store it, it seems like a nice option to explore.

Hey chrispaap -- a question about this line: * Management resources to allow users to take simple actions in their virtual environment (e.g. Start/Stop/Reboot a VM, Take recommended resource correction (increase/decrease and reboot) as recommended by VM Sprawl, Take/Delete a snapshot) Does that mean that the current…

I would give my last can of Dr. Pepper to be able to do more robust alerting with groups. It seems like the perfect solution except that the alerting options on groups are so spare that you can't actually alert anything more than group status. Multi-tiered alerts were a nice and welcome step, but didn't quite solve that…

Bwahahaha! Have you been hanging out with Leon Adato?
