Tried to listen to Skinny Puppy after finding that picture. Yeah, I think I am officially old

If I won the grand prize (if I recorded all the letters right) I'd become that IT hermit who rants about crazy new technologies and how they are going to change the world. Oh, wait. I think I might already be that person

I think I should give you 200 points for letting me watch the video from the bonus question today -- that was priceless!

In a previous life we classified all of a customer's nodes with impact and urgency and then handled alerting (and ultimately incident priority with OLA/SLA implications) so that we just had to change some custom properties on the node to bump it up or down in alert action delay. I am a big fan of variable priority…

Not only is a trusted network of IT folks (peers, seniors, juniors, etc.) necessary for your own success, that same network builds success for the entire industry. The old adage "it's who you know" isn't about sneaking your cousin Viny into a job that he isn't qualified for but it is about knowing who knows something that…

I can see this R2D2 Inflatable and your proximity to MCB Quantico being, err, interesting

I love cahunt's comments above because that is exactly what I was going to say. I just started a new job this week and one of the first things my new manager did was arrange a tour of one of the distribution facilities here at Cardinal Health. Why? He wanted to make sure that we understood the 'why' of all of the metrics…

I'm so sorry. As a community, our loss is great. For his family and friends, the loss is immense. Thoughts and prayers. Hold tight to his memory.

Ooo - today's required a little bit of reading to figure out. Well played Solarwinds, well played.

I was thinking for an NPM agent for servers only. (Unless of course your Windows server is a router --- do people still do that?!?) As for an additional polling engine, I agree, but at $18,000 that is way out of reach for small business customers. Even amortized over 3 years that is still $500 a month. What I was thinking…

Me too. Regardless of whether or not you select the Other box.

To demonstrate my absolute geek status I built an Excel spreadsheet with tabs for each contest and a VLOOKUP for each contest so that it auto-fills the letters when I input the daily codes. Yep, that's me. (And 'cause spreading geeky goodness is what SuperGeeks do, and because Radioteacher asked, here is a copy of my…

I did not -- Balki 1429, any info for gonzaljm and I?

I should also point out that standards scratch my control-freak itch Seriously though, in a complex environment proper standards, and the adherence to those standards, ensures that everyone can operate with a minimum level of assurance that things are in a specific state. Deviations to standards means having to assess the…

Welcome aboard. Notably, still no Canadians, though fcpsolaradmin and rschroeder are close to the 49th parallel.

When it comes to corporate controlled assets I can be a little possessive.

What solutions have you owned!?! I've had (and have) solutions that require way more work that the Orion platform and modules. We currently manage over 14K nodes and 10s of thousands of application monitors with 2 engineers and 2 senior analysts on our dedicated monitoring team. We own a number of tools in addition to…

Love it! I have a customer who has been awaiting the IBM Vxxx support. Can't wait to get SRM 6.3 installed for them and unleash AppStack in their environment. Of course it is Isilon support that makes me *really* excited in our enterprise environment

I bet Leon Adato would be willing to take this one forward to Solarwinds. I would love to see a joint statement as well, more so that I can waive it in the faces of over zealous resellers who want me to buy 10,000 CALs for my servers 'cause that's not going to happen.

That is the second time today the idea of 'watching the watchers' has come up. In the context you described I'd suggest there are only 2 outcomes -- 1) people change their behaviours and generate less dirt or 2) society changes and doesn't care about the dirt anymore and collecting is used solely for marketing purposes and…

This could be mitigated if all queries, reports, alerts, etc. translated the name to the template ID instead of looking up the template name to find the template ID. Anyone from Solarwinds want to weigh in on how this process works? I assume that the template ID is the primary key?!?

I've spent a good chunk of my career doing lots of things (and doing them well IMHO!) while maintaining the position that "I can't code". For a while it was a bit of a badge of honour, as in "Look what I have accomplished and I can't code." But lately it has been a black mark. Here's the thing -- I can *read* most scripts.…

The Raspberry Pi support is there for the agent, but Linux (ARM processors or otherwise) does not support Netpath. I think we need the #bumpsqaud to attack this one for cobrien. I know how much he loves to be reminded that zackm and I *really really* want that feature.

Killer use case. Bridging the gap between private and public cloud is going to be critical, especially when public cloud is run as an autonomous environment with limited connectivity to an enterprise network. I know you said that NPM would not provide an agent option any time soon, but could we suggest that it does?!?…

VMware's VSAN 2.0 is a great representation of that Software-defined SAN going maintstream. Our VMware architects have a bunch of lab boxes stood up -- older tech used for testing only -- and were killing traditional SAN technologies on both IOPS and GB per dollar. I don't think we'll ever see the full commoditization of…

In my opinion, this is absolutely mandatory for handling incidents in an automated environment. Being able to track an alert from trigger to clear inside of an ITSM platform is a powerful addition to any Solarwinds NPM implementation. We have recently proposed a rather complex work-around where we assign a unique ID to…

That's a mighty fine looking bunch of MVPs! Glad to have you all aboard.

Have you guys been reading my email again? I thought only the NSA could do that?!? I just had a conversation with our virtualization team this week about the need to capture % CSTP from the esxtop command and here you've gone and done it in the VMAN 6.2 Beta. Hot dang! Also love the VM to datastore latency report and the…
