  • So either there is a bug or this is by design. Hopefully Solarwinds can chime in soon.
  • Some more information here... It appears if a node on the submap is down, it is reflected in the parent map properly. If an interface on a node on the submap is down, it is not reflected. Is this by design? For instance, I have added a map for Workstations. That is on the System Status map. When a workstation was powered…
  • Same things for me. As far as if this ever worked... It did when I was using 7.8 and working at a different company. This is a new install of 8.1 with all hotfixes. Here is a scenario of my setup. I have a Cisco 6509 on a map called Network Map. The 6509 has 2 ports down, so the icon on the Network Map shows a small red…
  • No, see the following link. This addresses what I am trying to do. Found it just a little while ago. Thanks.
  • I had the same issue after upgrading to 8.5 this past Friday. Called into Support and they had me apply the Hotfix. They stayed on the phone with me to verify it worked, and it did. Since then, no issues.
  • Mark, I see my alerts, but it appears that only Advanced Alerts can be acknowledged. Any advice on how to create an Advanced Alert that will alert when a node reboots? I can't seem to set the Last Boot property to 'changed' in AA.
  • John, This is a good start for the amount of items I will have, most likely with 30 or 40 more nodes and more volumes. What are the specs of your VM that is running this? JA

  • As with everyone else, I am very interested in this too. I am already publishing the ip scheme to a page and have a link from the home page to it, as well as many other items, and would love to put this stuff on tabs.
  • I really like the request of being able manage/unmanage interfaces or volumes. The ability to put an interface into an "unused" state as stated by another person. Often times many ports on a switch aren't always used, but you don't want add and remove. Maybe this could be covered with the previous suggestion of a…
  • I agree, I have 3 licenses right now. One installed on the server and 2 others assigned to users. They are the big users of the products.... so I can't figure out the incentive for me to buy more licenses at regular price.
  • And also, this is using the Basic Alert engine, not the Advanced.
  • None of the alerts I have tried have worked. These include Down Nodes, Volumes not responding, high memory usage, interface down. My next step is to try 8.5, just have other items on the plate right now.
  • Thanks from me too, I was searching for this specifically.
  • I had the same issue entering ip address. I emailed support last week and they stated this was fixed in HotFix3. I installed all HotFixes and problem is gone. Hope this helps. JA
  • This is done at the command line. Edit the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file and change the rocommunity and make sure the line is not commented out.
  • I must be missing something, I don't see any check box capability or an Acknowledged column in the Alert Manager. But, I am looking to be able to acknowledge this via the web page. Is that possible?
  • Once all is said and done, anywhere from 3000 to 5000 elements.

  • I would put the database on an external SQL server already existing... so this would house the polling engine and serve up the web page.

  • What a coincidence you should post that today. I am having the same issue. I have a map showing all network devices, one of which has two ports down. There is a parent map that 'contains' the map of network devices, yet the parent map shows the network map as all green. I am looking for a summary to post on a NOC summary…
  • The strings for all of the devices are the same, and I can talk to the devices via SNMP, it just doesn't do the MAC discovery, hence I don't get information other that port status and speed.
  • Thanks for the response and identifying this as a bug. I look forward to the fix. I understand your reasoning for deprecating SNMP Sweep, but if you are keeping score, the old look and functionality worked well. The Description word wrapped nicely in the row, and the horizontal lines between columns made it easier to see…
  • Don't know if this has been mentioned yet. The list is getting rather long to search each time you think of something new. The ability to monitor ports of a switch and mark them in a manner that the switch won't show an error if the port is down. I want to monitor switch ports that users are connected to, but the ports…
  • That will work when I am entering info via the Custom Property Editor... However, I am doing this via the Custom Property Edit module that I have added to the Node Details page. I don't want others getting to the server page, just the web front end, thus my reasoning.
  • Robdover, I don't think jeffnorton is talking about the tools being installed on the server, but the toolset integration with the Orion server. I too am not happy with this first try. Good intentions, but in order to allow any user to use the tool integrations, which is only 5 tools at this time, there must be enough…
  • Chris, Great set of pollers. I have this working on a few older boxes, but I have (5) DL360 G5 servers running Ubuntu server, and can't get the information. I can see the SNMP info, but not the items in the custom pollers, although I do see the info for the pollers on a DL385 G1. Is there an HP specific agent that must be…
  • Don, This is a great suggestion that I would like to use, but it appears that Visio must be installed on the server where Mapmaker is installed. I have Visio, but installed on my desktop, not the server where Orion is installed. Do you have any suggestions? JA
  • I'm sure this is probably things I am doing incorrectly, but to this point I can't get the Advanced Alerts to do anything. Only basic alerts work for me, and haven't had time to deal with it.
  • You might try Dimension4 (D4) from www.thinkman.com. I have used it for years. It uses NTP and has many pre-configured time sources. Have not used it on Windows Server 2003 though.
  • What are your symptoms? Can you see the device at all? In order to enable snmp on a pix, you have to enable the community, and tell it what host on what interface. For instance, to set snmp string abc123 and have server server1 read it (server1 is located on the 'inside' interface), you would do the following in enable…
  • Thanks for stumbling on this! I had no idea it was that easy, now I can re-configure all my alerts. During my testing, I found that not having an email address in the Primary Contact field didn't appear to break anything, just didn't send the email.
