  • The APM Oracle Template is using the ODCA rather than Oracle Net as mentioned inside the template. Also no need to wait for APM 3.0 in order to solve the problem.
  • Josh, 1) James Lee from APAC allowed me to rename the directory OracleClient to OracleClient.old for fallback purpose. 2) He also asked me to install the FULL Oracle Client so I download the Oracle Cleint 10g from www.oracle.com and there exist 4 options of Instant, Administrator, Runtime, Custom. He did not tell me to…
  • Hi Josh, Our problem is solved as found that the APM 2.5 is using Global Database Name which is "database_name.database_domain" rather than "SID" or "Service Name". If APM 3.0 will follow this or may use another naming conversion? Best Regards.
  • Hi all, Found that the APM 2.5 Oracle Template is using the Global Oracle Name (i.e. database_name.database_domain) rather than just SID or SERVICE_NAME. Best Regards.
  • Hi Josh, What need to be configured in Database sides in order to make the connection successful? Under the Oracle Net Manager, if OK to enable "Use Oracle8 Release 8.0 Compatible Identification" and what is the prefer connection type as "Database Default/Dedicated Server/Shared Server"? Or the APM Oracle Template will not…
  • First question is how to uninstall the APM Oracle Client from c:\program file (x86)\solarwinds\orion\apm\.. Then which option need to be choosed when install the Oracle Client (Instant, Administrator, Runtime and Custom). Then how to make sure the APM Oracle Template will choose the Oracle Client rather than the previous…
  • For APM 2.5, already download the APM Oracle Client and installed to working for some databases. How to uninstall it as want to install the Oracle Client from www.oracle.com to handle different character sets rather than English for instant client? How to check that APM is using either APM Oracle Client or Oracle Client?
  • Tested that the Oracle Template from APM 2.5 use some special connection mechanism differ from the "tnsping" and "SQL*PLUS", but Solarwinds did not disclose on what are they? So some databases could be connected while some database could not be connected. Could not ask helps from Oracle as no information from Solarwinds.
  • Hi all, Solarwinds support mentioned that their dev team identified the problem, but without good explanation and any workaround. Just mentioned that this will be fixed in coming APM 3.0, but does not know when it will be available. Best Regards.
  • Hi Josh, I found that the APM Oracle Template in APM 2.5 sometimes work and sometimes not work in some Oracle DBs. Could you tell us what connection mechanism is being used for it? I had already tested that it did not need to follow the naming inside the file "tnsnames.ora" inside Orion servers which both "tnsping" and…
  • APAC support and development team changed their minds by looking at the below error message to recognize the "Instant Client" might not support different character sets other than English. Then ask to uninstall (i.e. rename) the APM Oracle Client and install the FULL Oracle Client and "hope" that the APM may pick up the…
  • Not expectation. They mentioned that the problem is identified and will be solved in APM 3.0 without try to help to go in-depth if other workarounds or the problem might not be fixed. Just ask to wait for APM 3.0. The "ORA-12737" as the Oracle 9i is using special character set for chinese characters so the error messages…
  • My current ipMonitor is installed into a Windows server. I could not find the snmptrap.log inside the log directory, but I have already followed procedures to add the trap monitor under the monitoried devices. And I could see one monitor for above configured is below devices is listening.
  • I have seen the above links. We tested OK without any problem by using "tnsping <tnsnames>" and "SQL*PLUS with credential & tnsnames" from the Solarwinds Server to Oracle Server. But it is not OK to connect the Oracle template from the Solarwinds Server to the Oracle server.
  • A few weeks before, for "Re: Case Update: 104144 - I ORA-12737", your APAC support mentioned that it will be sovled in coming APM 3.0 without further study in the problem. In today, they change their words that the development team could not duplicate the problem and ask me to try in APM 3.0 RC1 to see if problem could be…
  • Regulations are out of my controls. As a good company, just ask customer to wait for next release without any workaround is insufficient.
  • If I could not find the snmptrap.log under the c:\Program Files\Solarwinds\ipMontor\logs. Does this mean that no trap had been received or something may be wrong?
  • Already opened a support ticket. But support could not explain why their Oracle template could not connect to database, but both "tnsping" and "SQL*PLUS" could. Support could not tell on what connection mechanism(s) are being used by the template. They had asked me to contact Oracle for reason of ORA-12514, but Oracle…
  • Found that the APM Oracle Template may use Global Database Name as database_name.database_domain rather than the SID or SERVICE_NAME. The database_domain is named when creating the database instance. No confirmation from Solarwinds as above is only test results. Also no information if coming APM 3.0 may follow same way or…
  • You may check with your APAC support team on few outstanding cases for me. They could not give the timeframe on Beta, RC and Final Version of APM 3.0. Also could not tell the cause of problems so no workarounds could be provided. Just wait wait wait ...
  • Please help to provide your version of NPM and APM. And also please help to provide the version of Oracle DB. Please let us know what your tnsname inside the tnsnames.ora and also listener.oora. Does your "Service Name" and "Net Service Name" inside the Oracle Template is equal to tnsname or SID in the database server? My…
  • Hi all, Solarwinds support mentioned that their dev team identified the problem, but without good explanation and any workaround. Just mentioned that this will be fixed in coming APM 3.0, but does not know when it will be available. Best Regards.
  • How to configure the SNMP Trap Monitor? Which menu I should go to configure to receive the SNMP Trap for a OID object as: 1.3.6.1.4.1.10734
  • Hi Yann, I am new to Solarwinds APM and WMI. Does the above "number of account" will mean the number of concurrent Window login to the server? Best Regards, Ivan Tsui
  • The RightFax does not have IP Address. When I do the MIB walk to the server IP installed with RightFax Card, it does not find the above mentioned OID (AVTC-COMMON-MIB:RightFAX - 1.3.6.1.4.1.3529.2). Does it may mean that the RightFax card could not broadcast the corresponding OID information via the server? How do you have…
  • Heard that this is a bug in APM Oracle Template which may not be able to connect with Oracle for monitoring. How take very long time to know that this was a bug and need to wait for APM 3.0 to fix?
  • Please help to inform how to fix this. If by default SID == Service Name?
  • I had confronted same problem to connect the APM to the Oracle Database. Already installed the SQL*Net to the APM server and could connect the Oracle DB server from the APM server via SQL*Plus without problem. Known that the SQL*Plus connect with the Oracle DB via tnsnames.ora. TEST_TNS ( ..... (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = TEST)…
  • Try to check if you may have used the db_domain inside your database instance. The Oracle Template in APM 2.5 should use the Global Database Name (db_name.db_domain). No information from Solarwinds as above is just my test results.
  • Heard that this is a bug in APM Oracle Template which may or may not connect to Oracle DB for monitoring. Solarwinds replied that to fix in APM 3.0, but did not give details on which version of APM or which version of Oracle will be affected. Also did not have date of available for the APM 3.0?
