We've considered the log and event manager as a possible solution. I ran the database maintenance tool, plus ran the SQL query to defragment the tables. Right now our SNMP traps are set for 180 days, which I think is excessive. I'm going to suggest keeping them for 60 days. I work at a casino, so there are always rules and…

Thanks for the help! I just had stuff in the wrong nest I get frustrated because I have my SCP, but encounter simple problems that I can't figure out

I didn't use the boot up DVD that came with the server. I installed Server 2008 R2 Enterprise , then loaded the HP drivers and applications after I patched the server up with the latest updates. Here is a screenshot of what I installed on our SAM server, I'll also screenshot what pops up in Solarwinds. It looks like I'm…

If those universal device pollers don't meet your needs you should be able to dig into the MIBs and pull whatever data you want to build a custom poller. I use a combination of APC pollers and the universal pollers from AlterEgo's link. Here is a screenshot with some of the values we get, the battery time remaining on all…

I know you can change the background image and just replace everything. I have a property called "A" and I already created a map called "A_new". I want to delete the old map "A" and completely replace it with "A_new" which already has all the nodes set up on it.

We run traps and syslogs on a huge amount of switches. Our database size now is 57GB. I work at a casino, so have a huge amount of syslogs and traps in case of security issues or trying to identify possible problems.

We do weekly backups using SQL, where it compresses and backs up the database while the services are still running. So instead of doing the procedure per the SAM guide, we'd be doing a restore off of one of the SQL scheduled backup jobs made when the Orion services are still running. According to him, the SQL backup job…

I don't think I talked to Andy about this issue. It is has shown this since the install and after tech support logged in to fix the engine ID references in the SQL table. Solarwinds seems to be working fine though there are some issues with UDT that should be resolved when we patch it.
-
Great! That means I set up correctly. Thanks for your feedback
-
I tried that initially and kept getting this result. The box is at the bottom "Complex condition is empty, does not contain nested conditions"

We are migrating to Cisco UCS, Net Apps SANS, and ESXi 5.0 . So you are saying your SQL server and pollers are hardware based, and the databases reside on the SANs ? Right now we are running SAM, NPM, NCM on a Server 2008R2 physical machine , and the SQL server with all the databases on another physical server.
-
We only have one polling engine. I talked to support on the phone. I was told that using multiple port forwarding for one external IP is something that has been tossed around in development but that is about it. We have one polling engine that we want to use to poll the same external IP on four different firewall ports…

Thank you very much! I guess selecting the "volume" from the pull down menu would have helped , huh ! One other question, we have approximately 20 virtual machines running off a few ESX / HyperV servers. In order for Advanced Alerts to properly trigger, do I need to set up the virtual machine settings in Solarwinds? For…

Thanks for the info. I knew I could count on your help !!! The new HyperV support in 5.2 is fantastic!

Thanks again for your help, I'll download that MIB database from the portal and update. I got my SCP (with the help of studying for my CCNA), but it still feels like I'm always learning new stuff with Solarwinds. (or discovering new problems)

Our database is around 45GB . We have to keep trap and syslogs due to this being a casino and state regulations. We had it setup where all the syslogs would get purged except the ASAs. We're not having any issues with database size. When we set up our new server with new Solarwind installs the query was overwritten . Here…

Thanks Byrona, I did a forum search and got all those apps. Now the challenge of deciphering the volume names of all the mounted volumes
-
We may look into that . Currently we are in a test production with a couple of Solarwind 30 day trials running on them. I might as well install a 30 day trial of the Storage Manager so we can test it and possibly purchase it when we put this in our production environment.
-
We knew about that option, there was a SQL query you could run that would exclude ASAs from the maintenance. . We'd prefer not to keep the syslogs on all the devices for 1 year.
-
I'm referring to being able to SNMP poll the ESX server and pull all the information on all the VMs on that machine.
-
To monitor the statistics of the VMs you need the VMWare API license correct? We spent a ton of money on our VCenter license to be able to poll the VCenter hosts. I guess I'm getting hardware health and general VM SNMP polling mixed up.
-
It could be the agents aren't installed to relay the information to Solarwinds ? I know ESXi presents its own challenges due to the OS platform.
-
I just got done putting in two Proliant G6s for our Solarwinds servers. I get the same results as the picture above. I don't know if this is helpful, but I've noticed if you are building a Proliant server from scratch, there is a ton of server specific software to put on (lights out management, HP specific hardware…

I would recommend as previously suggested and try the account/view limitations to see if it meets your needs. You can apply limitations to more than page views.

Brad, You could do a couple of things. Copy the template and name it something else, then go in and delete whatever monitors you don't want. Another option would be creating a new template and just adding a Process monitor-WMI for "sqlservr.exe" , "sqlagent.exe", etc. (or whatever the name is for your SQL agents). The…

If you do a search here for "NetApp" you'll see there are a few custom pollers. You may be able to customize those to help you out. I'm still new to NetApp, but you may be able to query for the event success/failure from the SNMP trap and/or syslogs then develop an alert off of that Forgive the large JPEG but here are the…

There are pre-made Exchange 2010 monitor templates you can apply to your server, and several templates on Thwack. You can find the templates by clicking settings in the upper right corner of the browser, then go to SAM Settings then Manage Templates. You'll see a huge amount of pre-defined templates at your disposal. You…

I'm not that familiar with Cisco Call Manager, but are you putting in the Windows credentials..or credentials for the Cisco Call Manager application (if there is one). We use that template and use our domain admin account to poll for data.

What could be happening is your SQL server using a transaction log instead of writing directly to the database. Let's say it takes SQL 2 hours to get to the log portion where an alert would be generated. It writes that log transaction to the database, generates the alert...only problem is that problem was 2 hours ago. We…

Nevermind. Field Formatting tab . Use Numeric Data format set the format string to 0 .
