Works very well over here! I may prep our support team with this app so they can troubleshoot WSUS issues a little more effectively. I am the only server admin, and save for catching this stuff in reports, it can be missed sometimes if you are not on the ground level. Thanks!

I think there is a typo in the article. After the section labeled What do I need to do to address this issue, it lists KB2661264. Should that he KBB2661254? Thanks! Jay

Of all features, this is the one I have wanted the most. Some of our scheduled tasks have details that need to be reviewed on a routine basis. It would be even better if the body of the email could be exported data from the task. The more it could be "at-a-glance", the better.

Unfortunately, it did not do the trick. I submitted a ticket to the portal.

This might be a good idea when upgrading your clients from JRE6 to JRE7. I will plan on giving this a shot as well. It will be my first roll-your-own packageboot, but since I can't create an uninstall task for the JRE installations, it's the only way.

This is the experience of our enterprise. Others may have different stories. Some time many months ago, we had a Flash Player 10 package installed likely as MSI. With the EXE packages, they simply run, identify the currently installed version, and they upgrade it. The old Flash Player 10 still resides historically in…

That's what I thought, too. However, if I check the machine in Computer Explorer or run a report, the Win7 and 2K8 machines that are definitely 7.6 show the agent as being 7.5.7601.17514. Could it be an error with the data being retrieved from the machines by PM? Am I confusing two values?

Here is the most recent snippet of activity from a WindowsUpdate.log file. I can't fully interpret everything, so I could be overlooking errors. Would this be enough for you to determine anything? I omitted the actual server name since this is a public posting. I can send you a full log via in private message if you want.…

I give a +1 to that, Lawrence Garvin. The catalog is very manageable after having been imported.

thanks! Even though I have posted the EXE packages, I am still going to dig into the other issue. I've found the ID for the ProductName in both the registry and under C:\windows\installer. When I removed both entries, that MSI package did work. I just need to set up a script in GPO or similar to seek and destroy.
-
this is fantastic news. Thanks!
-
Ah, I gotcha. That makes sense. The only thing I need to do is make sure I export my custom reports and a few other items.

and you can save on drive space by selecting only the products that you need.

How about using wusa.exe ? It handles the mess of extracting and using the .MSU contents. It can be found in the System dir on Windows machines. Here is a blurb from that MS article: " When you use Wusa.exe to install an update package, Wusa.exe expands the contents of the .msu file to a temporary folder. Then, Wusa.exe…

Thanks! I must say it is great to begin finding answers to questions like these on the forum. The knowledgebase and community are building. Awesome stuff. Thanks .

Andrew M - don't worry. You're not alone on having to perform a double take regarding the versions. In addition to the two different Flash Player versions, Adobe AIR has a weird build number as well (14.0.0.178, I think). Good ol' Adobe

The current Java packages in PM should be straightforward. Previous ones needed an MSI that required a different approach than a direct download.
-
Nice! I'm glad that it worked. It does not work with every build, but you can sometimes link the download of Chrome by changing the first part of that file name to match the build you need. Hope Tonya is doing well.

I co-sign 's method. You have to love the "beta" testers, eh?

There is a split in WUA versions according to OS. My Win 2003 and Win XP/Vista machines (both x86 and x64) are all at WUA 7.6.7600.256. The Win7 and Win2K8 machines (both x86 and x64) are all at 7.5.7601.17514. I confirmed that we had approved KB2720211, and it's installed on the WSUS servers. I re-ran the WU agent repair…

the package does appear to be fine as-is. I tried it on a fresh Win7 image I just made, and it worked fine. The problem is that there is a very old entry in C:\windows\installer from late 2010 for an old Flash Player 10 installation. However, it is not listed under installed programs. We have been at Flash 11 for quite a…

Heya . I meant to reply to this a few days ago. With the availability of a newer Flash Player set of builds, they have deployed successfully. It looks like it was just an anomaly of some kind with the older packages. All is now well, though Thanks for your insight and assistance with this.

We only have two servers: One is our WSUS primary (vWSUS) and our Patch Management server (vWSUS2). I took a sampling of x64 and x86 machines and confirmed they met all Prerequisite, Applicability, and Installed Rules to receive the package. However, they always come back as non-applicable. Since I only have the two…

Lawrence Garvin While I'm installing Patch Manager on the new Server 2012 R2, can I install it as PAS even though there's another instance running on my network? From what I can tell, the two shouldn't ever meet and cause an issue.
-
Thanks, Lawrence Garvin ! This sets me in the right direction. I think, ultimately, I will be effectively building a new WSUS and Patch Manager infrastructure. I'm comfortable with that. I'll send a reply to let you know how it goes.

Which version of Patch Manager are you running?
