At my site we have about 900 users with around 45 physical servers and 30+ virtual servers. We cannot have server administrators and Network administrators, we just don’t have the manpower for this specialization in IT. Personally I am just a LAN administrator and have to be prepared to handle anything from our Dell SAN to…

I have seen this same issue. We have our Orion Database on a SQL cluster. Sometimes during a cluster failover Orion would work but it wouldn't record any data. I have adjusted the database timeout to help prevent this during a cluster failover.

So what are you guys doing for SQL Cluster support? We continually are having issues during failover with Orion stops writing to the database and then it doesn't start writing again after the failover is complete. Wind up rebooting both poller engines and then it will start writing again. Maybe build some logic into Orion…

I use a Dell PE2850 with 4GB of RAM and 2.8Ghz CPU and it works fine for 5,000 Elements. However I have the SQL backend sitting on our SQL Cluster. The database is backed up using Veritax Backup Exec 9.0 along with all of our other SQL databases. Questions 1-How many elements do you intend to monitor? 2-Do you intend to…

We are doing it at our site. We have several non-routed networks. The networks have no gateway and we are able to monitor all these networks using one Orion Server with mutliple NIC's on one Orion box. GB

Why don't you put the IP in the description on the router interface? Orion will pull the description field and then you will have that information.

I talked to Solar Winds support and these are the only macros that the Syslog server supports. ${Hostname} ${IP} ${DateTime} ${MESSAGETYPE} ${MESSAGE} I hope that this helps. -GB

I have the same problem with Macros in Syslog alerts also. I use the same Macro syntax for the Alert under Orion Performance Monitor and it properly populates the field with the nodename our any custom properties for example. However when I use the same syntax in Syslog alert it returns the literal text. GB

The node warning was tripped on a Cisco 4507R Switch. Right now I only have the Orion Alarms setup to trigger on Nodes. It isn't that big of deal and has not happened again after the one incident. GB

I do have it setup to only send a alert on when the Node goes down and reset when the node goes up. However when I look at the events for the node there is no warning event logged under events. If the node went into warning status I would think that a warning event would be logged. If I set a alert to trigger when the Node…

I do custom polling on all my PE servers. Service Tag, model number Bios version etc. However in order for it to work Dell Open Manager needs to be installed.

Thanks Josh - We appreciatte you taking the time to update the user community. I look forward to see a roadmap from Solarwinds. GB

So what do we think, will Vista our V8 come out first? GB
