This idea from 2013 would do you you are looking for and more: I would think everyone would need this. Filtering your events is a requirement.

Example: You upgrade a router at a remote site. Now you just lost all the data from the old system, no traffic reports, no way to analyze bandwidth, etc.... Now multiply that by 200 routers, 1000 switches and you can see why this is needed.... Archive is perfect so that it could be a separate database not harming any…

Another way to monitor is via logs. Most all devices have logs and even applications have logs. Many of the SAM application monitors we have are actually log monitors that provide very specific data in them. SNMP is great, basically because in most cases it all we have.....

I have been trying to get it to work on my 12.1 dev system for months! Wow... what if my issue is with my server..... wow that's a lot of wasted time..... Regardless I still think it should be part of the production code.... :-) Thanks wluther​ you may have just made my stress drop in half!!!

I think my issue was more my server than anything. Anti-virus was taking 85% cpu on a 32 core system. Kinda crazy... once I stopped that things got better.
