I had previously created a custom poller, and only added this poller to WAN facing nodes to check duplex settings for critical wan facing interface. Opted to discontinue this method, as custom pollers are intensive in addition to all other polling happening. We are hoping Device Tracker will provide this functionality,…

What if the EOL device is a stack of 600 ports? I can't seem to figure out how to report on # of ports that are needing replacement. EOL info is in NCM database, but details like # of switches in the stack, # of ports is in NPM database.

We recently had an important node deleted, only discovered it 1 month later. Upon auditing and review, it appears that he was listing resources, selected vlan interfaces to delete, and node was deleted along with the selected interfaces. In an attempt to prevent and catch such accidents sooner. We have developed a process…

Hi Geoffrey, glad to see your idea posted. It is quite similiar to one I created, ( http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2647 ) i didn't see yours until now. Have voted yours up and will spread the word to like minded folks re: 3com /h3c hardware health. regards, ellen.

klinejw, Yikes - 6+ hours. We have 4 additional pollers, and additional webserver. Curious if you tracked each stage and was there a particular portion that seemed to take the longer than you expected? Now that additional pollers can be upgraded simultaneously, did you do this, or was each server done in sequence? We are…

Greetings, Have just upgraded our test server to NPM 11.0.1. Enjoying getting our feet wet with QoE. Quick question - What happened to the orion win32 tool - "Orion Service Manager" - to stop/start or quickly check status of key orion services? It has disappeared following upgrade, but no mention in release notes. ellen.

In addition - when a node is deleted the audit log reports IP of node deleted, not the name of the node. However if you update the node, audit log reports its name not its IP. There is an inconsistency here. Would like both name and IP to be reported in audit log for node updates & deletions.

We have had multiple PSU failures on H3C gear. So unfortunate that our H3C gear is being deployed in our most critical locations. Unfortunate that h/w monitoring is not possible at this time. Having to use snmp to catch these.

Hi plangois, what browser are you using on your Z10 ? I understood that the native browser on blackberry Z10 is not compatible with orion web server.

We are enjoying NPM 10.7 on our test platform, considering upgrading our production 10.6.1 to 10.7 (including hotfixes), but would really like to know if 10.7.1 is imminent, as our production envrionment is 5 pollers, so would prefer to hold off if there is a 10.7.1 soon to be released.

We would prefer system default to be 64-bit counters. 32-bit default counters is a pain point, as it is frequently overlooked when adding new nodes (90% of which support 64-bit). Results in bad data for high utilization interfaces.
-
Can someone from SW please verify if this (SNMP stats stop collecting if 64 bit counters are enabled on a device which doesn't support) is true ?

Thanks Sean for posting response. As this has been an issue for us as well. Your detailed best practice list is very helpful.

I have just completed upgrade from VoIP 2.1 to IPSLA 3.1. Experiencing same issue. Aaprox. 2/3rd of VoIPUDPJitter operations are down with reason given: Operation did not occur because no connection (session) exists with the target. Is the remediation to delete all of these operations (233 of them) ? Does I need to…

Recently upgraded to APM 4.0.2 (module), application template Lync2010 was working fine on several servers using WMI. Just stopped same error "Undefined" status - out of memory on 1 of 6 servers being monitored. No issues found on Orion infrastructure, or with server that this template was running against. Was anymore info…

If you have multiple network engineers. Typically each engineer has their own license for Solarwinds Engineer Toolset, and it is installed on each of their respective workstations. You then enable Toolset integration on the NPM server, also each NPM user needs to have integration enabled in their NPM account.

AGREE!!!!!

jspanitz, excellent suggestion. if such enhancement is possible it would be of tremendous value.

Great. Advanced Alerts are not very advanced. Please enhance this area.

jeffnorton, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with 10.4.2. we are planning to upgrade from 10.3.1 -> 10.4.2, and also have mostly Cisco.

Just discovered 2 more nodes - again extremely large nodes with respect to the # of interfaces etc that are included. These happen to be 2 Cisco 6509's - had been in the database for 3 years. I have narrowed down that they went missing between 1-apr-2011 and 30-apr-2011. Event log (including cleared events) - shows no…

We are experiencing same issue. Please confirm which server(s) in Orion architecture required uninstall & reinstall of Microsoft .NET 3.5 ? NPM Main engine, NPM Add'l Pollers, NPM WebServer, SQL Server or ALL ?

Shawn_b, I found the 'UDT compability checker' standalone tool. It was documented in Solarwinds Knowledgebase. SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: User Device Tracker Compatibility Checker Thank you Shawn_b for your suggestions. I'm working through it to identify why some nodes are UDT PITA nodes.
-
shawn_b, Where do I find the 'UDT compatibility checker' ? Having same issue on a handful of switches, and would to follow your suggestion before escalating to solarwinds support. ellen.

Also looking for a native solution, such that when Orion upgrades are performed you don't get error at end of config wizard complaining about unable to reach 'http:\\orion.domain:443" - it can figure out the port and url, but seems config wizard is hardcoded for http only.
-
I believe we were just the victim of this same issue (we are running NPM v10 SP1). Our most important, largest node just vanished - we believe this happened when a completely unrelated node was being added, looked fishy, so deleted newly added fishy node. In the process - it wiped out a very important node with years of…

Brandon, Question along same lines. We like the Syslog & Trap receiver which are built into Orion, but can not afford the performance hit (or potential performance hit) by having ALL our network related syslog & traps going here. Ideally we would like to separate majority of SNMP traps to a dedicated receiver. Perhaps only…
