In my case I sure like to use standards for Network Node naming and also inside firewall configuration, object should always be named in a standarized way. This eases the understanding and troubleshooting tasks when any engineer from the team has to do it. Orion Node naming is a must!

Inventory info that NCM allows to collect is priceless. Though I would add LEM for log consolidation/correlation to the tools-you-must-use list

I think it varies a lot, especially in our case (latin-american countries) metrics and values assigned are important but came to realize that here the budget for this monitoring tools is bigger issue.

Most of my customers/users are not using VNQM as they should be, I frequently try to help them set the tool in the right way but, still much way to go...

I think participation and involvement in communities like this one is helpful too, one can learn a lot reading and sharing experiences with peers constantly. Also staying tuned to all the new concepts on the industry as well as the market tendencies and innovations.

Can any of you guys tell me how or when does work time deduction occurs on the service time block assigned to a location? I have set-up an evaluation to test this feature and even when it is configured as the documentation states, I create a ticket, add a note with work time defined, save it, and the displayed service time…

Never have stopped to think about what you mention about TCP and UDP when doing QoS, but definitely a great tip that will be very useful next time I set that up. Thanks man!

I work most of my time as a consultant with customers and it's incredible the percentage of networks poorly or not at all documented (at least here in Mexico) NetFlow can definitely serve as a powerful tool to start "knowing" this networks, so the troubleshooting of issues can be a lot faster and simpler. The problem here…

I believe one should look what kind of service and who to trust on this, some services are security hardened and deserve a chance to prove themselves worthy. I personally trust FortiCloud for UTM logs.

Most people usually do baseline once and forget about it, you're absolutely right on that it should be done often. Networks and applications change over time, sometimes faster than we can tell!

Great post! I have seen IP SLA dedicated routers before whit some of our customers and it sure is worth the resource dedication to have this kind of info available for troubleshooting and planning.

Static routes can be a nightmare in a poorly managed/documented network. We have come into cases of networks like this and NCM definitely has proven to be a powerful tool to get things in order: just add nodes, download configs into the database, and then everything is searchable. So no more "where is that static route…

Sad that these days can't use internet without the risk of being tracked, spied, eavesdropped. Everybody should get more conscious about this and start taking measures to protect own privacy. Great series of posts!

We are Solarwinds Reseller and many of our customers have asked about this feature. I'll definetly have to add us to the list of folks asking for this one! Any plans on including it on the short term?

rharland2012 escribió: nProbe won't solve this problem for you, since you still need a device that will create and export the flows themselves. In other words, if your switch was netflow/sflow-capable, for example, you would use that switch to export the flow to your Solarwinds collector. Actually that is not correct.…

Thanks aLTeReGo! It's good to know that now there is a way to do this. Elias.

Correct tavo.villanueva, trap OIDs are just referenced by the device sending the trap to Identify that trap. You don't "GET" them! (if you don't mind the game of words, hehehe)

In Router CPU Load polling frequency is configurable in intervals starting at "1 sec" (Realtime) or 5 or 1 minute decaying average. CPU gauge I believe its not configurable, but it's someting between 10 and 20 sec each poll. Best Regards! Elias.

Yes. Thats what I meant. How is that line "estimated".

Thanks CuppaT! I verified that and is working! Best Regards! Elias.

We have a couple customers with HDS VSP-93080 and USPV-29123. Would those be worth looking into? Or are they already supported? I have tried to DEMO STM with a VSP before but couldn't get much info out of that, because the customer didn't have the expertise configuring their HiCommand Device Manager (actually never could…

Just click on the "» Download Network Atlas" link below the example map on the Network Summary Home page. If it is not showing click edit on the map resource and enable the "Show Network Atlas Download link" option. There is also the Advanced CPU Tool on the same product (Toolset): http://www.solarwinds.com/products/toolsets/AdvancedCPU.aspx Elias.

Yes, there is a tool inside the Solarwinds Toolset product called CPU Gauge that does that, but i think it only supports Cisco devices and windows servers. You can see that here: http://www.solarwinds.com/products/toolsets/CPUGauge.aspx Elias Ortiz Lopez Solarwinds Synergy Gold Partner Iscor Soluciones S.A. de C.V.
