Some of my experience with automation has been a total disaster before... it's a nice goal. Actually Orion has made some of the issues I used to deal with easier now... I guess you could call that automation!

I completely agree with this statement. It's really complicated stuff... as you say the number of variables is mind boggling.

For openstack to be anything you'd trust your business to I'd say HP or RedHat or someone needs to be on the hook for support... We use VMware vCloud and now NSX... I'm interested in openstack but when I have a real problem I can't get my support from newsgroup or on github.

That's how I found it too...

How do you find the time for this?

We had a pretty scary event last week. All of sudden all of our circuits with hardware encryptors on them stopped being able to complete the IKE handshake and no traffic was flowing. The crazy part is you could get ICMP packets across the WAN. It ended up being some new sourcefire signatures and default rules in place. It…

I've enjoy being a jack of all trades and master of few. It's nice to work on different aspects of technology and not be pigeon holed into one thing. Some of this is due to type of work I do. There aren't many of us and we're responsible for the entire infrastructure. So I do network/windows/unix-linux/storage/security and…

We had a big mainframe at Ohio State named Brutus that did all class scheduling for everyone.

Try and get it done quick and don't dwell on the web all day.

For sure! While I was in school in the mid 90's we had SUN's everywhere... even Steve Jobs donated a bunch of NeXT cubes to Ohio State while I was there (pretty neat because it was the first truly object oriented desktop environment which btw it's kernel called MACH is now the foundation for all of the Apple operating…

Yeah I agree... we're on SericeNow now and I'm really not a fan. Most of my other places have used Remedy before. I've used Remedy since before it was aa web application.

I'm kinda dreading when O365 becomes usable by the defense industrial base. I think it is coming though anyhow. I guess one good thing is we could perhaps put some Orion agents in these new specialized clouds to report on some stats... at least I hope that's possible.

I've had to deal with a weird DDoS vulnerability lately it's a special kind of ntp amplification attack.
