I thought of one more question. We have several APE. The APE communicate with the SQL server directly when sending the DB poll data, correct? The data doesn't go through the Primary engine on the way to the DB? If this is so, then we could put a poller in a subnet in the newer IP schema, and the SQL server in the same…

hallstev5, I came across your question while looking into Skype and Office365 after reading Question 14 (July 19) in July's Monthly Mission. I bet you have already come to a solution (if so, please post what you ended up with here). If not, you'll be pleased to know that SAM v6.5 (requires NPM v12.2) has Office 365…

Could you post the trigger conditions? The 3rd image above is an action, not a trigger.

Node Status is equal to unknown.

Answering my own question: There were other admins logged into the server. I forced them to logout, and was able to proceed with the upgrade.

I wanted to give you an update. In spare time, I have been working on a manner of reconciling Chassis Serial Numbers in NPM and NCM with reports you can download from Cisco. I pretty much completed it. It is important to update Cisco device firmware in order to apply security fixes, operational fixes, etc. It is important…

Here's a suggestion: copy the template, then edit the template to include the template in a static manner. It doesn't matter what you enter in the prompt for the banner if you don't put the banner variable in the output to the device. I found I still needed to have the variable in the template. Unfortunately, this solution…

When I want to verify which database my Orion is using, I just start the Configuration Wizard, only select Database (checkbox). The next screen shows the SQL server. The next screen shows the database name. Is there something I am missing why you don't just do that?

The problem may be in the Test-Firing, not in the Alert. When I test fire interface alerts, I see 40 something fa 0/1 interfaces. Each of those apply to a different switch or router. Once I find the right one on the list, I get the correct results. Perhaps the interface you are selecting for the test fire is just and…

ding aLTeReGo DanielleH Could one of you please post an update on Solarwinds Tools? I used run this on the same servers that Orion is on because the Pollers have access through SNMP-ACL on our devices. However, it appears that Solarwinds Engineer's tool set is not compatible with versions of software that Orion now…

I forgot to mention at the beginning of my paragraph. This started out as a method of searching the Event Log (not syslog) -- the Orion web interface does have a better method of searching syslog than it has searching event logs. I later adapted the search for syslog. Syslog actually does have a pretty good search GUI in…

Tia, The fields you cite as not working are all interface fields. I suggest looking in two places. First, in the Alert, Trigger Condition tab, make certain that Type of Property to Monitor is set to Interface. Second, on the Node's Resources, make sure you are monitoring the at least one interface, with Traffic and Error…

The Solarwinds Lab is great for beginners and advanced users. After you watch a few, you'll quickly develop a favorite Lab tech. Mine is {deleted}. SolarWinds Lab The Monitoring 101 paper is also great resources. There are several 101 resources, here they are: Monitoring 101 -- includes link to the paper.Free Training:…

I have the same request. Here's my 2 cents worth: Just yesterday I added a custom property for Airport code. This is our method of sorting by geography. I then looked to see if I could set-up groups in Cirrus and grant permisions per property value, such as "where Airport_Code = 'JFK' ". Then, I could set the default…

jamieinbox, I'm having a similar problem. Rather than posting a new thread of nearly the same circumstances, I hope you don't mind me piggy backing on your thread here. Similar to you, I'm well versed in Network Atlas. We have unlimited version of Orion, so licensing is not an issue. We are running most updated versions…

I chatted this over with a senior-level support tech while doing the Dev-Assisted upgrade to RC2. He agrees that data would have to be present to trigger the alerts. Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to delve into the cause of the issue.

So, I went through the NCM manual looking at the table names with this query: select * from ncm_{tablename} Listed below are table names which required underscores not in the Admin Guide .pdf. I omitted table names which didn't require an undisclosed underscore. As listed in Guide: Actual table name: ncm_CatalystCards…

You will find your cached entries in the registry key below. Just delete the ones you entered wrong. This for the "To:" field only. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\Network Performance Monitor\Recipient] In fact you can load addresses you wish to have cached there too by using a .reg file as so:…

I think I have never run into this in Cisco MIBs or commands. Is there a manner you can obtain this same information via command line on your cisco device? The best I can think of, is to obtain the serial number and then use that to determine the manufacture date, on Cisco's web site (I've heard of that being done, but…

So... please excuse my ignorance... but I've never heard of Worldwide Map before. Is it part of NPM? How do you access it? When was it introduced?

When I saw your screen body. I felt my body breathe a sigh of relief!

Rick- I think I get what you are doing, and I like it. But, let's make sure I understanding this correctly. You want a tabular result listing node, interface, and a number representing Errors and Discards for each interface, and list it only for interfaces with a number in Errors and Discards. I have created this little…

sja and others here who want to alert on Syslog entries: I have some questions for you. 1. What sorts of alerts would you configure? 2. How would you identify which nodes to alert against (example, by Host IP address, for 5 hosts), or would you search against all nodes? 3. What would you search on (example, string…

Hi dmatlock. Welcome to Thwack. Your post is in NTA, which is a Netflow forum. It would probably get better response in the NPM forum since this question has nothing to do with NTA. Anyway... There are a number of UPS topics/threads online here. Maybe some are about APC, but the basic info should be very much similar in…

We should configure Thwack to send out ALERT: OLD THREAD RESURRECTION e-mail alerts, with a Sev 1 priority, LOL. Case in point, I am looking to show standard deviations for interface throughput, errors, Multicast and Broadcast traffic, etc. I searched Thwack for other people's use of Stdev, and found this unanswered…

I looked into this same question several months ago. The idea -- when the custom poller returns an invalid response, treat that response similar to an "error code", and use it to initiate an action. This sort of acting upon an invalid response is done all the time iin programming. However, Orion (as it is in 2010.1) is not…

Interesting. I was just working on this same topic earlier this week, and part of a different focus. I have a solution for you, it requires creating Custom SQL alerts. I have posted it here, check it out. SQL: How to search syslog for specific messages

As many people here, i have been using SolarWinds for several years, at two different companies. I think I started with Orion 8.5. I have been using the web interface and the System Manager. Both have their uses. I want to clarify my complaint -- it's not that I'm looking for SW to increase the productivity of SM; it's not…
